From our driver to our glacier guide, the entire day was an incredible experience from beginning to end. There was something for everyone, and throughout the glacier hike, we felt completely safe and well taken care of. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and walking across the glacier with the spikes gave me the confidence to truly enjoy the experience without worrying about my footing. Our guide was fantastic and made the hike both fun and incredibly informative. We learned so much about glacier geography, formations, composition, and how glaciers continue to change, all while taking in the amazing landscape around us. The stop at the small local honey and wine maker on the way back was the perfect way to end the day. We learned that they keep their bees in a school bus, which was such a fascinating and unexpected detail! The honey was delicious, and I ended up purchasing several jars as gifts for friends. I highly recommend this tour, especially for anyone who wants the incredible experience of actually walking on a glacier but may not be able to do a helicopter tour. It was an unforgettable day and an experience I will always remember!

Our group of four did the Matanuska Glacier Tour. There were three groups totaling 9 individuals on our tour. Our driver, Jimmy, did the pick up and drop/off at our homes. He was great on the drive up and back providing us with additional information history or regional information as well as pointing out wildlife. The hike itself on the glacier lasted about two hours with Addy and it was fantastic. I was not sure what to expect, but Addy did a great job showing us the glacier and crevasses and providing appropriate knowledge along the way. It was clear she enjoyed her work. We even got to hear an ice quake on the way down that sounded like thunder. Overall, a very enjoyable experience, and a unique day trip from Anchorage.
Overall a fantastic experience! The glacier hike was amazing, fun and safe. The wine tasting and honey tasting was a bonus. The only improvement I would recommend is the pick up: my instructions said "meeting point" but it was literally a pick up from the street. If you are a bit late, they are gone. This was not properly communicated. Also no information on parking at the pick up point. We thought we are meeting at the tour company HQ and we thought there will be parking. That's not the case! So budget 10-15 more minutes for parking and walking to the pick up location.
Great trip. Walking on the glacier was amazing. Our guide was very good and, even though I sprained my foot, we had a wonderful time. The honey and wine tasting was of limited value
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful Matanuska Glacier Experience! What an incredible experience! From beginning to end, our trip to Matanuska Glacier was wonderful. Our tour driver, Christ, was exceptional—kind, professional, entertaining, and very informative. He made the drive enjoyable and shared so much interesting information along the way. His friendly personality and professionalism made us feel comfortable and well taken care of throughout the trip. Our glacier hiking guide, Lena, was absolutely amazing! She is a strong and experienced hiker, but what impressed me most was her passion and patience. For those of us hiking on ice for the first time, she explained everything clearly, helped us feel confident, and was always attentive and encouraging. You could tell that she genuinely loves what she does. Walking on Matanuska Glacier was already an unforgettable experience, but having Christ and Lena as part of the adventure made it even more special. I felt safe, informed, and able to truly enjoy every moment. Highly recommended—especially for first-time glacier hikers! Thank you, Christ and Lena, for helping make my Alaska adventure so memorable! 🏔️🧊❤️
This experience met our expectations. Our guide, Kris, was knowledgeable & shared stories about life growing up in Alaska. Glacier hike was super fun, along with delicious local honey, wine, and of course - coffee! Moose sighting was an added treat.
Great experience from the drive through the mountains to the yummy honey tastings. This exceeded my expectations
The guide was great and this was our first time. We enjoyed thoroughly. We collected some water from the glacier too😍
We had an incredible time on this tour and guided hike from White Raven Tours. Joan did a wonderful job with Alaskan history and her cultural knowledge during the drive to the glacier. Her love for Alaska is very apparent. Hiking on the glacier is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Our guide Chris was amazing especially if you are interested in any of the science behind glaciers. The local honey and wine was an added treat that set this tour apart from other operators.
Sofie was our tremendous Guide, very informative and fun. Dan was our bus driver and made bus ride great
Although a lot of the glacier had melted, there was still a great amount to explore. It was beautiful! Because I was paired with a group with a child and limited mobility, I didn't get to explore as much as I would have liked. The wine and honey tasting isn't your typical sit down and taste. It's very hime grown and ended up being really cute.
Our Matanuska Glacier hike was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience and easily one of the highlights of our trip. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. Our driver set the tone for the day—knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely friendly. She made the journey enjoyable and gave us great insight along the way, which added so much to the overall experience. Once we reached the glacier, our guide completely elevated the adventure. He was fun, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable, making us feel both safe and excited the entire time. He went out of his way to take photos for us, making sure we captured unforgettable moments. Hiking all the way to the top was surreal, and getting the chance to drink fresh water straight from the glacier was something we’ll never forget. To top it all off, we ended the experience playing with the silt and even got a “glacier facial,” which was such a unique and playful way to wrap up the day. Let’s not forget we stopped at The Honey pot for honey and wine tasting and some coffee this place is worth visiting on its own! This was absolutely worth it in every way—an unforgettable adventure that we would recommend to anyone looking for something truly special.
The tour was exactly as advertised. The driver was knowledgeable and helpful. The glacier tour guides were also very helpful.
The guided glacier tour is suitable for a wide range of abilities with some steeper parts. We were provided with crampons and you do not necessarily need snow boots. There was little wind I felt fine without a hat. The honey and wine were a delicious treat after about 2 hrs of walking/hiking on the glacier. For ice cave experience I would wait for June/July:
Glacier hike was an incredible once in a lifetime experience. Dan was an awesome guide!
We had a fantastic trip!! Our guide Dan was friendly and knowledgeable, and made a sure our day was successful. I would definitely book a tour with him again!
I was truly happy to have lived that experience. Every moment felt special, from the breathtaking views along the road to the stunning landscapes that surrounded me. The journey itself was peaceful and inspiring, and hiking all the way to the glacier made it even more unforgettable. Being so close to nature, seeing its beauty up close, and feeling the fresh air made me appreciate the experience deeply. It is something I will always remember with joy.
Great experience. Dan and Kim are a married couple that runs this company (I think) and they will be the ones to drive you to the glacier and take you to the little wine and honey shop but they will give you to a Matanuska glacier guide on arrival to the glacier. Unfortunately our group ended up being combined with another so it was an 11 person tour but it was still cool. Definitely not physically exhausting if you are young and in good shape so a little disappointed with the title of "hike." I enjoyed dans commentary during the drive and would not have wanted to drive myself.
Much better than I had hoped. Many cool crevices & stunning ice formations. Our guide, Jason, gave us beaucoup information about the glacier. Overall a great experience.
This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful tours and hikes I have ever done! Our driver Dan was phenomenal with a personality that matched ours well. The tour company went above and beyond and picked us up amd dropped us off at our Airbnb and even made an extra stop in a small town so I could mail a postcard. Our tour guide for the hike, Tommy, was exceptional!!
Glacier hike was great experience. We had really good time hiking on glacier. Our tour guide Dan was extremely nice guy and gave us lots of information about the tour. Walking on glacier with spectacular view made our tour a memorable one. Also small stop at honey tasting was good.
it was a great experience, just expecting to see more, but cant really control the weather/nature. it was still great though! 👌
The glacier was AMAZING! The crew at glacier that guides you were super nice and basically rockstars. I will say, the drive there is pretty tough. It’s a lot of winding, beat up bumpy roads, and if your driver hits those turns going too fast then slams on the breaks like we had, bring some Dramamine…but she was very nice! The shop for the local honey and wine tasting is a cool little place. Not a true tasting but worth the stop! We didn’t get to try the wine, but the honey was really good and the woman making the coffee was very sweet. This glacier hike is a once in a lifetime opportunity you won’t want to miss.
Tour operator was very nice and professional and the glacier walk itself was amazing. The honey and wine shop is cute too.
Didn’t care for it. The pictures are misleading as we went in August. So we were walking on black debris. Just walked on rocks. It was not white at all. Wouldn’t recommend in the summer. Probably different in the winter. And, it was over a 2 hr drive there from Anchorage and 2 hour drive back.
The glacier guide, Edin (sp?) was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and engaged, clearly passionate about his work. He did a great job keeping everyone safe, including a couple small kids in our group. The group size was good, at about 15 people. We spent about 2 1/2 hours on the hike. It wasn’t too challenging. The views were amazing. The wine and honey stop afterwards wasn’t really necessary. It was fine, but seemed tacked on.
The 2 hour drive was beautiful and our driver Kim was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Our glacier guide Bennett was amazing. He was fun and you could tell he enjoyed his job. Our 12 year old son has decided he wants to come back when he’s older and be a glacier guide. The glacier hike was long and you needed to focus but the spikes helped and every step was even more beautiful. I would not recommend for anyone who struggles with balance.
Great tour of the enormous glacier, we learned a lot of interesting facts from Frank our glacier tour guide. Frank was patient with our group as some people had an easier time with the terrain than others. Things to note, it is cold there even in July, wear layers including a winter jacket, wear hiking shoes or boots even though they give you crampons, and know that the terrain isn’t even. All that being said, we loved the hike and would do it again. BTW, my husband and I are both over 60 yrs old. The honey and “wine” tasting were definitely not the highlight of the trip.
This was a great experience… Beautiful sites, and all the logistics taken care of by White Raven tours. Hiking the glacier was amazing. We had a brilliant beautiful day. I would definitely book this trip again so easy and so worth the money.
A 2 1/2 hour drive to get there from Anchorage but worthwhile. The surface of the glacier is bumpy and uneven but we had crampons so that helped. We dressed warmly but was shedding our coats from hiking around the glacier. Lots of beautiful blue ice and plenty of dirt and gravel also.
Guide was fantastic. Offered a 360 drone of the glacier and group along the way. We had an adventurous group and believe we were able to hike a little higher than some other groups. Great experience.
Our driver Taylor was GREAT and our guide Johnson was very capable and got us through an energetic hike to a highpoint on the glacier.
Really great tour and adventure on the ice. You get some nice scenery enroute to the glacier and the friendly driver narrates. You will stop halfway to buy your own lunch and use the restroom. The glacier experience is great. Guides get you safely to great picture spots and provide interesting facts. You may be limited by the age and agility of participants in your group. The honey and wine stop was fine, don't expect much. You may find a tasty souvenir. The ride seemed longer on the way back, but worth the trip.
The overall trip was good and the glacier was fascinating but the people at the check-in desk before we started directed us to give a $20 tip to our guide. That’s not how tips work. Given the price of the event, this was a real turnoff for us.
We had a wonderful time! The trip was fantastic. The glacier is amazing and the glacier tour guides were phenomenal. Pack a lunch, water, and dress warm, with layers! Hiking boots are a must. The wine and honey at the end is really just a brief stop, not really a wine tasting.
Fantastic! A clean spacious van with driver Kim picked us up and drove us on a roughly two hour drive out of town. She had plenty to tell us on the way. We stopped at a grocery store for snacks about halfway there. The glacier was amazing…. The hike was a solid two hours and absolutely breathtaking. We stopped at a small shop for a brief local honey and wine tasting before driving back to Anchorage.
Kim is an awesome tour guide. She is so friendly and knowledgeable. Honestly, would take this tour again if it was with her and the same glacier tour hike guide. It was AMAZING! You get your bang with your buck.
A fascinating tour. I learned a lot about glaciers and Alaska in general, and got plenty of exercise in the process. The van driver and glacier guide were both personable and informative.
It was wonderful, beautiful, the glacier was an awesome experience. The guide, Jacob was very informative. Told us th8ngd never knew before.
Great tour...awesome guides, wine and honey shop were great. Good hometown type of place. The guides on the glacier were super cool and focused a lot on the safety of the group. Driver was awesome, he even hooked me up with a fishing expedition contact the next day. All around great experience.
Wonderful experience! Although it was a wet day, the tour guide made the best of it. Taught us about the Glacier and its history. Allowed adequate time for pictures spots. Even alloys to drink some of the ice water! Definitely recommend it.
Our family had an absolutely incredible time on the Matanuska Glacier tour! From start to finish, everything was smooth, exciting, and educational. Our tour guide, Thomas, was not only extremely knowledgeable about the glacier and its surroundings, but also friendly and engaging — he made the experience both fun and informative for all of us. Our driver was equally fantastic, sharing interesting insights along the way and keeping the ride comfortable and enjoyable. The entire day was full of awe-inspiring views and memorable moments we’ll be talking about for a long time. If you’re visiting Anchorage with family, this tour is a must-do! We highly recommend it for anyone looking to explore Alaska’s stunning natural beauty.
This was definitely one of our most favorite adventures we went on during our week in Alaska! The glacier was huge and breathtaking. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly she kept all 9 of us safe and informed the entire time. She took the most amazing photos of all of us throughout the trip so the whole family could be in unforgettable memories. I cannot say enough good things about this adventure. Our bus ride to the glacier was also amazing and our guide was lovely and very informative. She pointed out stunning views along the drive and gave us history of the land and the people. I do recommend getting 2 bottles of water when you stop for lunch because you will want the second after the hike. Also bring an empty water bottle and they will allow you to take fresh glacier water from the top and bring empty containers if you want to collect glacier silt for later use. We have the best memories that have just no comparison from this trip.
You will be well supported and educated at the same time. Madison was our guide and helped my husband conquer his fear of heights by keeping him informed about what was coming up next on our hike. She was awesome!
This hike was REALLY DEMANDING over UNEVEN SURFACES for my wife and myself! (We are older and not very stable anymore) I WISH YOU WOULD HAVE SAID SO IN YOUR ONLINE ADVERTISEMENT before we signed up. ALSO, your advertisement said NOTHING about a 3 HOUR DRIVE EACH WAY to/from Anchorage, NOR a 3-4 MILE Hike for this excursion!
Such an amazing experience.Truly something you don’t get to experience every day. Madison was our guide at the glacier and she made it so fun! The hike itself was pretty simple, some areas of steepness but overall, great! We were able to sample glacial water and walk through a crevasse. Ryan was our overall tour guide, he was very informational and fun to get to know. We stopped at The Honey Hive on the way back and sampled honey, jams and jelly’s, and wine. It was a great last stop before our beautiful drive home.
It was a great experience, fun group, awesome driver and guides. The wine and honey tasting was the cherry on top!
I love outdoor activities, and this one was nice! It was beautiful, and our driver was so kind and lovely. Our guide on the glacier was kind and knowledgeable. In terms of experiences, it was cool. It didn’t knock my socks off (maybe because I prefer self-guided tours and the hike on the glacier was shorter than I would have liked), but it was neat. Lots of people could have managed the trip, so it’s super accessible.
Our Drivers were so nice, funny and knowledgeable about the area we were traveling to as well as the state itself. Very nice people, answered all our questions, told stories about their experiences in Alaska Matanuska Glacier, we had a different guide take us through, we walked, took lots of pictures and learned a lot. The Honey Hut trip and the end was fantastic, lots if delicious locally made honey, wine, vinegar and treats. I would definitely recommend this experience for solo travels and groups
My daughter and I had the most amazing experience hiking the Matanuska Glacier. The views are spectacular and breathtaking. Jason our tour guide was the best. He was so knowledgeable and really guided us safely in every step of the way. Thank you so much Jason. And also thank you to our driver Dan who was so pleasant and an excellent driver. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is planning to go to Alaska.
