Full Day: Fairbanks To Denali Winter Adventure & Sherp Tour

Best off road experience in Alaska. Staff were very accomodating and very knowledgeable of things about Alaska. This is the highlight of our trip besides the Aurora. The drone videos were amazing! A great experience! Jeff and family 10/08/26

Amazing experience! Tim, Joel, and Mark were a lot of fun to hang out with and very knowledgeable about the area. Beautiful views and it was a great way to get to the deep part of the back country.

My daughter and I had a great time on this tour! The entire staff was so attentive and fun and made sure that everyone was comfortable and not too cold. I was a little worried about riding in the back of SHERP vehicle due to motion sickness, but it turned out ok. I would just say that for anyone prone to it, they do a couple of quick donuts at very beginning (for fun and because it looks cool in the video) that made one passenger a little nauseous for the rest of the ride, so maybe inquire about sitting that out if you are prone. Otherwise, it was great! We all took turns riding in the front. We saw a mother moose and her calf and rode on a frozen lake. Pictures, video and drone footage from your ride (including any wildlife they are able to capture) is included in the package, which we appreciated! I loved hearing about past search and rescue missions. Tim was great company on the ride to and from Fairbanks. Don't think twice about booking - it was an all-around great excursion

Fantastic in every way! Tim and Joel provide an incredible memory-making adventure. Tim was our van driver and tour guide. Friendly, funny, regaling us with entertaining stories and humor, and a wealth of knowledge about Alaska. Our Sherpa driver, Joel, was fun and went out of his way to give us a comfortable, safe, and memorable experience seeing breathtaking views, discussing fun facts, and putting together and sending us a complimentary and cool drone video of our time in the Sherpa. We saw moose, visited Denali National Park Visitor Center, and lunch was delicious at the local cafe’. Communication before the tour was excellent. Tim and Joel do all the little things that make this a memorable and must do experience. HIGHLY Recommend!

The tour was truly an adventure to remember. Tim and Joe paid attention to every detail to make sure we had the perfect day. Their first hand experiences in the area and knowledge allowed for an educational and interactive tour.

Tim was the best. He made the whole trip very personal, from the welcome text scheduling our pickup to the personalized video he sent after the trip. His stories and local flare added to the adventure. Mark was or Sherp driver and made sure we all comfortable and navigated us to some incredible views. Tour length, stories, and amazing views were worth every penny!

Fabulous time on this tour! These guys know how to entertain AND enlighten their guests as they take you into the backcountry of interior Alaska. Guest comfort was always attended to in the drive from our hotel to the jumping off point into the snowy wilderness and then as we traveled in the SHERP to remote places. Could have done this for hours on end with Joel and Tim. Loved every minute of it!

This tour was amazing! Joel and Tim made sure that we were safe, comfortable, and entertained the entire time. If you want to have fun while seeing beautiful Alaska views this is it!! We would not hesitate to book again.

AWESOME experience! Tim, Joel, and Mark are great guides and hosts. The fat trucks are so much fun! Be sure to dress warmly. However cold you think it's going to be.... it'll be colder. But well worth it.

This tour was amazing. We got picked up right from the hotel we were starting at (pikes waterfront lodge). We got a text the day before to verify the pick up time and location. On are way up to the mountains Tim kept the conversations going and was very knowledgeable about Alaska and the wildlife. Once we got to the truck we meet Joel who took us around in the fat truck, he also was knowledgeable about the history and the mountains. We had a good lunch and even says some moose! Then headed to Denali before heading back to the hotel. It was a great experience and very well planned and organized

We had an awesome time on the SHERP with Joel and his humorous stories. He takes expert picture for you while his brother, Tim, takes videos with the drone! Tim has funny stories too (ask about his polar bear encounter!).

TLDR: worth it 100x! We learned so much, from biology, ecology, Alaska living, animal encounters, living in the bush, mammoths. Then the real fun with the SHERP truck! That thing handles anything! And we got a great video from the tour! Tim and Joel take amazing pictures of us as well with our cameras and phones. Gonna book again for a summer trip. Tim picked us up and the fun began, he was an open book! He’s a man of knowledge. He answered everyone’s questions with personal experiences and in-depth knowledge. My wife had many questions and he would just give us the best answers. From mushrooms, plants, wild fires; to bears, moose, mammoths; and Alaska living, the indigenous people, survival. Ask Tim about his polar bear encounter! We saw a moose on the way to Healy, Tim flipped the van around and we got to see the moose on a drone. (There’s a big screen in the van and he was able to stream his drone view for the passengers to see) He also shared many video and pictures of the Alaska life and some great footage of the Aurora! Once we got to Healy we got a run down of the SHERP truck and off we went! It was so much fun! Tim’s little brother Joel (sorry Joel, Tim said to do it 😂) was our SHERP driver and he took us on a great ride! Every stop we got some great photos! Joel shared some amazing facts about Alaska, Alaska living; both modern and past, coal mining, glacial science, his time in search and rescue, even got to learn some in-depth knowledge of moose GI & poop. (It sounds weird but it was fascinating.) and getting in the frozen lake and doing donuts was a lot of fun!!! That was something else! After the fun we got to go to lunch, then a quick trip to the Denali national park. We’ll be back! My wife said it so it’s happening she wants to experience breaking through the ice or just driving into the water! We’ll see you again guys!

We had a great time riding in the Sherps and visiting Denali's Visitor Center. It was a very snowy day but the sky cleared enough at the end of the day to even give us a glimpse of the aurora. Tim was very engaging with a wealth of knowledge on many subjects and Brittany gave us a taste of what life is like in Alaska. Great tour!

Amazing winter views of Denali annd its surroundings! Tim was a phenomenal guide, loved hearing his anecdotes! The fat truck experience was worth every penny.

The tour was a super novel experience, got stunning views of mountains in Denali Park on our way to the truck site. First time on a Bigfoot truck, a bit bumpy but nothing uncomfortable. The whole tour is hosted by a sweet local family, special thanks to our guide Tim for being so energetic, the Aurora we saw on our way back to Fairbanks made our day!

The Denali Fat Truck tour is a must-do for anyone looking to escape Fairbanks for a day and explore rugged terrain that standard vehicles simply can’t reach. The scenery is stunning, but the experience is truly elevated by Tim and Joel, who are fantastic guides with great stories that keep you entertained throughout the drive. As a solo traveler, I especially appreciated how many photos they took, ensuring I actually came away with pictures of myself on the adventure. It’s a fun, seamless way to see the Alaskan wilderness and I highly recommend it!

We loved this combination experience. Tim was our driver and main tour guide. For the SHERP portion of the time we met Mark who drove the SHERP that our family rode in. The uniqueness of the SHERP vehicle was fantastic. We got out of the SHERP vehicle several times and Tim flew a drone to capture some amazing video which he then let us have. We love visiting national parks so Denali was a hit as well. We had a great time doing this experience and I would definitely recommend it. Both Tim & Mark were fabulous!!

Great tour from Fairbanks to Denali. Sherp ride was fun and informative. Fantastic guide! Comeraderie was quickly established with those on the trip! Being in this area in winter without worries around driving was so worth it! Such a special experience!

Great experience! The sherps can take you out to see incredible views of the mountains. The guides are super friendly. You get plenty of stops to check out every you can while on this tour. My husband and I had a great time. I recommend this as part of anyones trip!

It’s not an “exciting” drive in a thrilling sense, but it was still a lot of fun to ride in the warm fat truck equipped with those massive, adult-height tires. The views were stunning, and our fat truck driver made sure we had plenty of time to stop and enjoy the scenery. Our guide, Tim, was incredibly friendly and passionate. It was easy to see how much he loves his job, and he was very knowledgeable about every stop along the way. The entire schedule was well organized and thoughtfully prepared. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. P.s. The only minor thing to keep in mind was a mild fuel smell around the truck, which was understandable given the vehicle and conditions.

This tour was so much fun!! On top of that it was well organized and comfort prioritized. Text messages were sent the day before to confirm the trip as well as give a timeline of pickup and the activities. Tim sent a picture of the transport van and himself as well as a an approximate arrival time. The van was clean, comfortable and spacious. Tim was a lot of fun to talk with-the drive to Denali went quick. Next the SHERP tour. One of the funnest activities out there for a family where you stayed warm. We had an absolute blast. The totem restaurant was super tasty and the local grocery shop in Nenana we stopped at sold Caribou pelts. Awesome. I’ve done about 10 tours all over Alaska and this one was the best!

This was a crazy fun unique experience! Getting to explore in the SHERP allowed us to witness the national park in ways no other tour could. Safest and possibly most extreme off roading experience in your life! The views were absolutely breath taking. 100% worth every penny spent!

We had a blast on this tour. First stop was to Denali which is a lovely park. Much of it was closed due to the gov't shutdown, but we still enjoyed it and were taken to spots with excellent views. Joel is the tour and Fat Truck business owner, and you can tell that he truly enjoys providing the tours and has great interaction with all of the passengers. Britney was our amazing Fat Truck driver, and she kept us safe while having a great time. The Truck ride into the lake was the highlight of the tour! Awesome!! Also, we were treated to a Moose sighting at the end of the tour. I highly recommend this tour to everyone!!

We are lucky from small group to private tour. Unfortunately we didn’t see any animals other than Do sheep from very far away. Maybe due to the season of October. The big fat truck is a good experience as we haven’t tried before, however the route taken is not exactly the Denali national park. It went around outside the park up the hill and down the lake. Three hour ride is kind of long and bit boring. No visibility of animals however the guide shown us a moose from very far. Overall the tour is pricey due to its exclusive big fat truck with limited seats or demand over supply. Hope in future, it can roll on the national park and able to be closer to nature.

The sherp is such a conquering vehicle, providing safe navigation to some epic views. Our guides Tim and Joel are such seasoned individuals. Excellent story tellers and great sense of humor. Thanks for the memorable experience guys!

In the beginning , the tour almost cancelled , I got heart attacks for a moment, coz we were miscommunications. But, ….Tim rearranged our tour & …..tadaaaa……we headed to Denali. thank you Tim , you’re an awesome 👍👍 And Britney she’s an amazing girl , knowledgeable,fun, and she’s a good driver 😍😍 Highly recommend to take this tour.

Awesome trip! Fun guide with lots of stories and information about the area. Didn’t see any wildlife but enjoyed the ride and scenery. Took great care to make sure everyone got great photos was a first rate trip.

We are glad we decided to do this tour and not drive ourselves. It snowed the night before and Tim our guide was an excellent driver. The vehicle has metal spikes in the tires to grip on ice. The sherp ride was a great way to get off into the wilderness and we saw 4 moose. They also gave us excellent drone video of the moose and us on the tour. Would definitely do this one again.

The whole family enjoyed the drive through the highway and the SHERP. The communication and pick up was very easy. Our tour guide, Tim, drove us to Denali National park safely, we stopped for lunch at the Totem Inn restaurant, and we spent some time swapping moose and bear stories on the road. The SHERP tour was really cool with some stops to take pictures of the breathtaking landscape. We drove and stopped in the middle of an icy lake and did some doughnuts. We saw tracks in the snow but the animals were shy on the day of our trip. This was altogether a fun-filled road trip and memorable family event. Highly recommended!

Big shout out to Tim, Britney and Joel. One of the best tour operators, we have experienced. Wealth of information about the different parts of Denali and surroundings. Went the extra mile to make the entire trip comfortable and amazing. Includes the breathtaking ride on SHERP. Drone pics and videos were the icing.
