Full Day Fishing Trips

I absolutely love Kenai River Trout anglers. I went to Alaska on a solo fly fishing trip hunting big rainbow trout. KRTA did not disappoint. Over 3 days as a solo angler I caught well over 100 fish. I caught 6 different species and many of the rainbows were over 25 inches. I even hooked up with that magical 30 inch trout but didn’t net it! You fish from a drift boat on the upper section. This might be the most beautiful scenic river on earth. On the middle Kenai you fish from a jet boat. It’s still beautiful but the big platform allows you to get serious about angling and land lots of big rainbows, salmon and Dolly Varden. Both my guides were exceptional, top tier. Matt’s an upper Kenai guru and Brandon was absolutely incredible. I had the best fishing day of my life with Brandon, he put me on endless huge fish and I caught my personal best and a new species. Its the most fun I’ve ever had fishing. Do yourself a favor and book now if your dates are available.

We had a wonderful fishing experience with Matt. We found him patient, kind and skillful. We had much fun catching sockeye salmon, rainbow and Dolly Varden trout. Had a great day full of memories!

Second year fishing with KRTA. Requested Owen for our guide because we had so much fun fishing with him last year. We fished multiple techniques with fly rods and introduced our nephews to fly fishing experience. Owen was a great teacher and they had fun learning.fishing was good including a fun walk/wade trip. My wife and I had the pleasure of fly fishing with Matt Rima for two days on the Kenai. We have done many float trips around the world and Matt was a great guide and one of the best we’ve fished with. He has excellent knowledge of the river and the area, is a skilled oarsman, and put us on fish. He listened to our preferences, has a patient and quiet approach, and gave instructions when needed. We caught numerous nice trout on dry flys and nymphs and I highly recommend Matt and Kenai River Trout Anglers !

Brandon is the BEST and most knowledgeable guide on the Kenai River. No one cares more about helping you catch fish than these guys. I’ve fished with them every summer for 4 years and have never had a disappointing day. Fish on fish every time.

JJ took my family and I fishing in the lower Skilak Lake area. He asked us to meet him very early. The first area he took us to was filled with fishermen. He opted for plan "B". He took us to a spot that was a little more difficult to fish. It was lights out. We caught all of our fish in a short period of time. We loaded up and went to a beach in Skilak lake to relax while JJ cleaned the fish. We were chased off shortly after we got there by a brown bear. It was a cool to see. I have used JJ for 7 years, almost yearly. I encourage all my friends and family to use him. I have already booked him for next year. He is amazing

Great day on the river with Owen! Owen was friendly, very knowledgeable, helpful and fun to be around! Father son duo had a busy day bringing in memorable fish! JJ was an absolute pleasure booking this trip and was fantastic answering our questions before and during our visit.

Jake was amazing!! He helped my sister and my 80 year old grandpa so much! We had so much fun and were able to catch some salmon!

Brandon was our guide. Fishing was slow this time of year (late June). With that being said we caught fish. He knew the river and changed out flys the whole trip finding the right ones we needed. When booking our trip owner JJ Brown was not sure what the river would be producing at the time. We originally booked a trout float trip. But when we spoke with JJ the day before the trip he said the sockeye were running and we should change up to that. Boy was he right. We had 3 novice fisherpeople in our group and 2 that knew enough to get by. JJ helped those who needed it and we had a great trip. We caught our limit of sockeye in about 3.5 hours. This trip is perfect for family groups who are traveling thru Alaska and can't bring gear. JJ provided us with all the gear we needed for a great day on the water. Dress warm because the early morning waters on the Kenai are chilly. Also bring extra warm socks. JJ did a very professional job of cleaning our catch and recommended Salmon Run Lodge for processing and storage. They did a great job as well.

Had a full day float trip on the Kenai River with Matt. He picked us up at the Princess Lodge on time as scheduled. He was very professional, patient and informative. We both caught a lot of amazing Dolly Varden and rainbows! Great experience! Highly recommend and will book again if we are back in the area.

2025 the Sockeye run was Insanity so they booked us with Brandon and guess what... out of all the boats we hooked and lost anywhere from 45 to 60 fish all the other boats getting 15 in the lake area. JJ was so cool to call us in advance and reschedule where we were going to go (we originally booked the river) but he suggested the lake because of the insane Sockeye run (in excess of 2 million) had a blast, hooked up constantly, and look forward to hitting it again with them in 2026!

Great way to spend a day fishing. Thanks to JJ for booking me on short notice and to Brandon for taking the trip and spending a few minutes reviewing casting with my son. Brandon is a great guide and works hard to put you in the spots to catch fish. He had plenty of fish on the hook and just enough in the net to make this a worth while trip for me. Even saw a nice brown bear at the take out. If you’re looking for a guided trip give these guys a call first. They have all the gear, just bring a lunch and a license and dress for the weather. Most fish I ever caught in a day! Our guide Brandon was amazing — knowledgeable, experienced and super pleasant. We had a beautiful day to float down the kenai river from sportsman landing to Jim’s landing .. not a long distance but chock full of fish. Leopard redband rainbows, golden rainbows, Dolly Varden — all of them were huge and hungry. Brandon, knew the sweet spots and the exact type of lure to use. We had four people in our boat and had three fish on at once several times. We stopped counting how many we were bringing in after a while it was so many. We all highly recommend this outfitter!

Had a great full day trip with Owen and his boat dog Buck. Owen is a great guide, and his care for the fish, the river ecosystem, and his clients' enjoyment was clear. We were busy catching fish all day and in between fishing, Owen kept us busy with good conversation. This was a great trip, and as an experienced fly fisherman, I would highly recommend this trip with Owen.

JJ is an amazing guide! He is very knowledgeable, personable, and accommodating. We caught a crazy amount of salmon. He did a great job teaching us how to catch the fish. He was very patient and attentive. I would highly recommend his company and any of the guides that work with him. We felt like we started as clients and quickly became friends.

Owen was very kind and helpful to us older (early 70s) fisher people. He especially helped my wife. He had some good stories and brought his your lab with in the boat and the dog behaved just fine. The salmon were running heavy closer to Kenai and Soldotna but we caught some. It's all about timing. He offered to let us fish for rainbow trout, but we were only interested in the salmon. Fun experience.

This was our first trip to Alaska and we had several different fishing trips planned. Our very favorite experience was our day spent fishing for sockeye with Owen. Owen was the perfect guide for us. We were bumbling novices and he worked super hard to make sure we had a great day and brought home fish. He was super kind and knowledgeable and it is obvious he loves what he does. We had a blast fishing with our guide, Owen. He was knowledgeable, really great with the kids, and knew the waters well. He worked hard to put us on fish (rainbows and dolly varden). We even hooked into a sockeye and saw countless others. This was all in some of the most scenic waters Alaska has to offer. We even saw mountain goats. This made our Alaska vacation truly memorable. We're already planning our next trip.

The river fishing experience was beautiful! The peacefulness was very calming, even with 2 boats of kids! As a mom of 4, all of which went on the trip, I highly recommend these guides for family friendly and patience with kids on the boat! Our oldest son was granted a trip with excursions from Make A Wish, and he definitely wanted to go fishing. Being from Indiana, the trip to Alaska has been perfect for him and his vision of his dream trip!

JJ was an awesome guide! He made it a great experience for all of us- even yours truly, who had little to no fishing experience and assumed she would just be “along for the ride”. I loved it, and our 13 year old grandsons said it was their favorite day of an amazing week in Alaska!

Went on a Kenai fishing trip with Kenai River Trout Anglers. They provided all the gear for spin fishing or fly fishing. I decided to fly fish that day. I was paired up with another angler and Guide Matt. We immediately got into some fish. Lots of Sockeye, Rainbow and Dolly Varden Trout were caught. I was very impressed how the fish were handled and quickly released unharmed by Guide Matt. He cares about the fishery and told us about the different species. We were able to take lots of fotos of the fish. The Guide positioned the boat so we could both easily fish and we pulled over a few times. I would go again with them anytime. Matt is a expert guide on trout, and put use on fish all day. Already got another trip planned with him. I've been fishing my whole life, and this day goes down in the top 3. Thank Matt see ya soon. Unspoiled wilderness and Rainbows, lots of them! I have fished for rainbows at both of our earth's poles. Bristol Bay and the Kenai Peninsula has the best biology for rainbow that follow the salmon runs in Alaska. It is not necessary to always flyout for a world class fishing experience. JJ Brown and the Kenai Trout River Anglers fit the bill for me. He is also a local Cooper Landing resident and is more in touch with the environment for fulfilling your fishing adventure experience. I like guides that have decades of fishing experience that target water for trophy fish. Let me know if the other photos I sent you got uploaded. I sent 9 shots and it stopped at 3. Maybe the fish were too big for the system?

Matt was our guide and he was great! Very knowledgeable about the area, put us on great fishing and was clearly respectful of the land. He had a great sense of humor and was enjoyable to spend the day with. The water was higher than normal but he kept us safe and took us to the best places to catch Dolly’s and rainbows. The fish we caught were beautiful!

Came to the Kenai with friends and no fly fishing experience. Both JJ and Matt made the trip epic for a first timer. I learned and caught big fish at the same time. We had great laughs and really enjoyed the time on the river. I totally recommend booking with Kenai River Trout Anglers.

Matt was a great guide, and we had a great time along the Kenai. Whilst we didnt catch that much, we still were able to snag a couple of small trouts. The scenery along the Kenai is stunning, and the boat ride itself was fun and we really enjoyed our day out.

We had a great time trout fishing with JJ. It is a beautiful section of river. It was slow start but JJ was able to put us on fish. We lost count of the number of fish caught. Gear and instruction were good. We fished from the boat and the banks. It was a great day. Highly recommend!

I recently had an absolute amazing experience with Matt who works with JJ at Kenai river trout anglers.
