We had a wonderful time. The driver arrived on time and it was a short drive to the dog area. My son was able to pet the dogs before our ride started. The ride was exhilarating. The freedom in the fresh air was amazing. Thanks for the great time.
You must do this experience! Super fun. Our mushers Cole and Jake were amazing and very knowledgeable. We receive a lot of great photos as well!
Great dog sledding ride with nice pictures taken. It was a lovely ride with the mushers and were given time to pet and interact with the dogs as well as take pictures. The overall cost is a bit more than other dog sledding rides but they provide pickup and drop off along with free photographs and that justifies the extra cost. Everything was superb but I reduced the rating only because I felt the car pickup staff were a bit rushed or hasty.
An experience that we will never forget!. Picked on time up right from our hotel in a spacious very clean SUV. Wonderful experience petting the dogs, getting to know their names, great knowledge given about dog sledding from the owners and great photos taken. We were blown away with how amazing the dogs were on trail and how much they love to run! You will not regret it one bit booking this experience with this great company. Thank you again for memories that will last a lifetime!
First rate tour. Great driver/photographer who explained whole process. The dogs were wonderful—what an adventure—with fantastic scenery. Mushers answered all questions and took additional pictures for us. One of the best travel experiences out of a huge number. Don’t miss it!
Kept sliding downward in sled
The dog sledding experience was fantastic. We were picked up from our hotel, had a chance to play with the dogs a bit, and then the dogs pulled our sled through the course. The guides stopped to take pictures and we were able to further meet and great the wonderful Alaskan Huskies after the sled run. I would highly recommend this excursion if you get to Fairbanks during the winter months.
The Alaska Journey Tours team was amazing in communicating the logistics and transportation. The dogs were so excited to be off to the races once their harness was on. We got plenty of time to love on them after our trip. It was clear that the dogs are loved and cared for as our musher beamed with pride talking about them. He even sharing stories about being there at their birth and the generations present in the team. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the uber-friendly Cloud Dancer. Pictures were great and provided timely. I would book this tour again in a heart trip.
We had an amazing time on our first dog sledding experience! The dogs were incredibly cute, well-behaved, and clearly well taken care of. Our guides were professional and knowledgeable, and they took the time to share interesting insights about the dogs and the sport. Everything was very well organized—we were picked up from our hotel right on time, which made the experience seamless from start to finish. They also had a photographer capturing moments at the beginning, during a scenic stop on the trail, and at the end, which was a great touch. We even received some photos immediately after the tour, and the rest were shared via Dropbox on the same day—super convenient! Overall, a fantastic and smooth experience. Very professional team and highly recommended!
It was an awesome experience from pickup to drop-off. The mushers and dogs were wonderful and the ride was an excellent experience!!!
This was a wonderful experience. The dogs were so cute and full of energy making the ride even more fun. Our musher Cole was super knowledgeable about Fairbanks, the culture, wildlife, and of course his Alaskan huskies plus all the in and outs of dog sledding. This made our ride super entertaining and educational too as we learned so much about Fairbanks through him. The whole experience was very intimate, there was only one other group there with us. They bundle us on the sled which had lots of blankets and padding making it super warm and cozy, so the cold wasn’t an issue at all. The route was beautiful and so scenic and went through the woods feeling like a fairytale. Even on the drive there and back it was enjoyable as Joy, our driver, was very personable and fun to talk to. Her husband took so many great photos and videos of us too. This is a must do in Fairbanks! Love love love
It was amazing, a must do if you are in Fairbanks in winter. The dogs were very friendly and the guides were very knowledgeable.
Great experience. Nice stuff. Super friendly dogs. Definitely recommend. Our driver arrive on time. We had time to play with dogs.
David was excellent, and his entire team was wonderful as well. There was just one minor disappointment: the listed duration was 2.5 hours, but the actual experience lasted only 1.5 hours—consisting of 30 minutes for the outbound journey, 30 minutes of dog sledding, and 30 minutes for the return trip. It would have been better if this had been explained in greater detail upfront. But it was fine for us.
I didn't like that they changed my schedule at the last minute, as it threw off my entire planned day.
Everyone was very nice and interactive. The dogs are really sweet and happy. It was amazing!!! Definitely recommend it.
My family and I loved this quick activity! The dogs are so beautiful. They making the running look effortless. Easy to communicate with the guides.
Fun ride in a dog sled. Lots of time to learn about dog mushing and to get aquatinted with the dogs.
Loved meeting the dogs and watching them eat their treat at the end, excellent photographer and driver, and Jake the musher was helpful, funny, strong and informative. The trail was also nice, we had a great time.
The guides were very friendly, the dogs were absolutely adorable, and it was a fun and unique experience. If I visit Alaska in winter again, I will definitely do this tour again
This was AMAZING!! The dogsledders were so nice and great with the kids. They took a million pictures with our phones and even videotaped us sledding. I highly recommend this activity!
Had a wonderful experience! The guide was super friendly and the dogs were absolutely lovely. Highly recommend!
We went dog sledding in Fairbanks. We had an absolutely amazing time. They took great photos. Overall, it was such a fun and memorable adventure. The dogs were so friendly, and we know how well they’re cared for. Such an amazing experience from start to finish. I would absolutely recommend this.
This place is a hustle. **Do NOT recommend** I’ll start out by explaining that I run multi day horse packing expeditions and day trail rides in the Rocky Mountains; I understand organizing and hosting outdoor tourist activities quite well. And more importantly I understand the various levels of value that can be provided. With this experience, I highly do NOT recommend this company for a multitude of reasons: 1. The marketing page on trip advisor notes the experience is 2-3hrs and is $200/person. We had 4 people in our party, and for $800 we got a 1hr and 10min experience. This included the drive from downtown Fairbanks to the “staging area”. I spoke with the gentleman who was running the show after our sled, we looked at the Trip Advisor page together because our group was very confused about the experience. He wasn’t able to show us that we shouldn’t have expected this experience to last the whole afternoon (we drove 3hrs round trip to come do this). 2. The company is just using a side pullout near the airport as the staging area. This is likely not an above board operation. 3. The gentleman running this show was rudely rushing us when we arrived as we were getting our gear on (we’d just driven a ways and it was -15 out, we needed to suit up). We were not late and thought we were going on a long ride in the cold. 4. The trail they use is public had been chewed up by a 4x4 so it was a mess for the first few hundred yards. One of our sleds tipped, dumped everyone off right at the start and ripped a jacket 5. The lead sled that was ahead of the dumped sled was having its own problems. The dogs got confused on which route to take twice and didn’t listen to the musher. They turned around and got tangled up. My niece and I had to get off and help keep the sled braked and untangle the dogs (then a dog peed on me lol!!) 6. The sled ride circled a field once and went back to staging after what would have been 20 minutes without all the problems. That was it. 7. The gentleman running the show then tried to take a bunch of photos for us but we’d weren’t there for photos or instagram, we wanted a real experience for the price we were paying). When we tried to decline after the first 5 photos were taken he bossed us around and got mad that we just wanted to leave 8. As we were headed to the car they offered to let us pet the dogs and that was it for the experience. There was another client group standing there waiting to get on the sleds for their turn. Before we left I spoke with the gentleman to communicate that the price did not match what was offered, and that the info on Trip Advisor was very confusing. He just argued his side which was that the 2-3 hours listed was for the whole experience from pickup to petting the dogs. I showed him the time and explained that we did all that (except the petting) and it was just over an hour in total. He was ambivalent and then went over to help (read: kick) with the dogs who were all tangled up again for the next group. The meeting in downtown Fairbanks is unnecessary and just uses up time, a pin drop to the staging area is sufficient and typical. For the price, this is something more along the lines that we were expecting: - meet at the kennels/farm where you get to experience what the life of the Alaskan dogs is. - There would be a little warming hut/shed where you can get ready and have a hot drink - Go for a sled in the wilderness, not next to the airport in Fairbanks. Here you would actually see the land and understand what life is like here. - Come back to the hut to warm up and go again for another ride on a different track. Without something like that I fail to see how the experience could take 2-3hrs and be worth $800. Either that or cut the price. The general customer service was lacking too. No offer for a blanket or any communication before the trip to ensure customers were dressed sufficiently. At $200/person a certain level of service is not unreasonable. This experience is worth around $60-70/person max.
We had a wonderful time dog sledding with Alaska Journey Tours. The team was fantastic and made the experience even more memorable by taking some great photos during the tour. They uploaded the pictures and sent us a link within 24 hours, which was such a nice touch. I also had a small mishap—I lost one of my gloves on the trail while on the sled and didn’t realize it until we returned. I mentioned it to the team, and they said that if they found it they would let me know. To my surprise, our driver later texted me a photo of the glove and even brought it back to our hotel. Now that’s amazing service! What a great team. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a fun dog sledding experience.
Great host and loved the dogs. They go over the entire genealogy of the dogs which I appreciated. Just make sure to bundle for the cold.
Very cool! Totally recommendded, great views! The dogs are super cute and the guides very friendly, pickup driver very nice too!
We had such an incredible dog sledding trip with the family! The whole experience was beautiful, fun, and really well organized. The dogs were clearly very well trained and well fed, and you could see they were happy and eager to run. It felt like it went by so fast; it was over just as I was getting the hang of it. It was so special gliding through the snowy scenery together and watching the dogs work as a team. Definitely a memorable adventure we’ll be talking about for a long time! P.S. The free pickup and drop-off were a great added bonus to the package.
I am so grateful to the guides for operating the tour even in this record-breaking cold. It was a truly unique experience that you can't find anywhere else, and I fully enjoyed the magical atmosphere of Alaska and the charm of dog sledding. Above all, the dogs were so smart and adorable that they made the entire journey pure happiness. I highly recommend this tour :)
So cool!! Picked us up at the door. Tucked us in the sled and we so enjoyed the beauty and the experience. The musher and driver were simply awesome!! Absolutely loved this experience! Thank you.
The whole operation was extremely efficient. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The dog sledding was so fun, and our sled leaders were very friendly and informative, we also got to interact with the dogs who all were so excited but sweet. Our pick up and drop off service was great. Very friendly service all around. And then to top it off our photographer took so many photos. You don’t need to take your own to be honest.
Wonderful experience, I checked it out my bucket list. Pups are great and very friendly, mushers were great funny and knowledgeable. Just put on layers and layers and have some fun. Driver and photographer were friendly, I totally recommend this tour.
The dog sledding trip was an amazing experience. Our musher was very friendly and energetic, and he explained everything we asked. The dogs were adorable, friendly, and clearly well cared for. It was so exciting to ride through the beautiful snowy landscape. The photographer and driver also did a great job. Highly recommend this activity if you visit Fairbanks!
This is a good quick excursion/experience. The dogs are amazing! They just want to work! You learn all their personalities and how they work as a pack. Our guides were great and the included photography is a valuable bonus. We were there when there was so much snow, which I learned on all of our excursions, causes issues and many cases tour cancellations. We were happy that this one wasn't canceled but routes/trails had to be changed and so we got to experience how the dogs actually go through training and route changes. We would do this again.
Don’t know if the fault was with Trip Advisor, or the tour company, but within an hour of booking the tour and paying the money, our tour was cancelled. Now I have to keep checking to see if I got a refund.
There were some issues with dogsleeding, they couldn't do 2 people in one sled anymore so they had to improvise left minute and make us do single sledding on a different trail. It did increase the wait time for all customers but we enjoyed it.
Very cute dogs, exciting sledding, friendly musher, good photos and convenient hotel pickup and dropoff .
Great tour, transport was nice and dog mushers very friendly also dogs always friendly, weather was bad yet we got accomodated to another time.
The best dog sledding experience to date! We had so much fun with our entire family. From 85 year old grandma to teenagers! The service was amazing from start to finish. Great, on time, complimentary ride service. Sweet dogs, and such a fun trail to see Alaska through. It’s like a kiddie roller coaster but real life dogs are pulling you through a scenic route. 10/10 would recommend doing in Fairbanks! Loved all of our pictures and loved our tour guide so much!
Absolutely not what I expected compared to the reviews and provided photos of the dogs (outside of travelers ones). The people who run the business of dog sleighing did not have full control of their own dogs and constantly kept fighting to the point the dogs jumped one other dog and made that dog bleed. Which I got blood on myself and the dogs kept jumping on me. Extremely unprofessional and extremely dangerous. They are not on a private trail either, blocked by other peoples vehicles, we were turned around since the the back up trail was to hard for the dogs to run on, sat in the car and offered to make changes overall not like other places, disorganized from start to end. The pick up and drop off is the most efficient part of this booking. Also wanted a refund due to not getting provided the promised experience but they refused and forced us to go through with it without us feeling comfortable. But the experience of seeing the dogs fight was not something to remember.
Bundle up and have fun. The dogs are very friendly and the mushers are very knowledgeable and the ride is very exillerating.
We had a very fun time on this dog sledding tour. The company was very easy to communicate, answering questions quickly and sending us reminders and updates. We had plenty of time to interact with all the dogs and they were sooo adorable. The organizer took a lot of pictures for us and uploaded them very quickly. We got some cutest pictures with dogs. Highly recommend this tour!
What a fun time I had with my driver Jake and his team!! It was a dream come true. When I come back with the grandkids, I will be rebooking!! These dogs were WONDERFUL!!!
Beautiful experience. Loved the dogs. Handlers were informative and friendly. Great hosts. Pick up was punctual and communication was excellent. Nice photos to take as souvenirs.
Dog sledding is a very special experience for those of us living in the tropics. The travel agency provides free pick-up and drop-off service. The staff are very friendly, and the dogs are very affectionate. A highly recommended itinerary.
Great experience. The tour operators were awesome and very accommodating. Can’t wait to do it again.
Our dog sled ride was very memorable. Jake, our musher, was very friendly and entertaining. Very informative of the area. He takes great care of his dogs. David, our driver, was a very friendly and took lovely pictures. it was my wife’s 30th birthday and it was an adventure we will never forget.!
We’re honestly very disappointed with this experience. The setup was not what we expected at all. There’s no actual facility, no designated parking, no restroom, no waiting area. The “meeting point” was just a back road/off-road location. It felt unorganized from the start. When we arrived, we were told the dogs were still out on another trip and we had to wait. No one mentioned any delays beforehand. Once the dogs came back, we found out there were only two sleds available. There were six people in our group and another group of three. With only two sleds running, it was obvious we’d be waiting in rotations for a while. We were then told we’d have to shorten the ride to about 20 minutes per group to accommodate everyone. That’s not what we booked or expected. When we raised concerns about the wait, the setup, and the shortened ride time, the musher told us they’re “just a small company” and that we shouldn’t expect them to operate like commercial ones. That response felt dismissive and unprofessional. Being a small company doesn’t excuse poor planning, overbooking, or misrepresenting what customers can expect. Given everything — the location, the delays, the reduced ride time, and how our concerns were handled — we decided not to go through with the activity at all. This was not the experience that was advertised, and had we known the actual conditions, we wouldn’t have booked. Proceed with caution
Bundle up more than you think you should. The dogs are way faster than I thought possible and it was colder than I imagined. So much fun and the dogs were delightful happy to be loved on after pulling us. The humans were full of usual information about not only their dog team and sledding, but the local area as well. Our sled driver had a great sense of humor.
