Fairbanks Ice Fishing Expedition In A Heated Cabin With Fish Cookout

I am not a fisherman. My father was, and my father-in-law. My 14 year old son is and my 11 year old daughter is happy to take fish off hooks and tear worms apart with her bare hands. They had an absolute blast ice fishing for 5 hours, inside and outside of the nice cozy cabin right out on the frozen lake. My daughter caught the most (35+), and my son caught the two biggest fish of the day. There were plenty for the two other families that booked the same slot. The guide cooked delicious reindeer sausages, and then fried up the fish we caught (king salmon, silver salmon, and rainbow trout) which was incredible. The guide (Noah) was on top of it the whole time, taking care of the kids ( and adults) who didn't know how to fish and making sure everyone was having a good time. We'll definitely be doing it again next time we come to Alaska!

I have never been ice fishing before and wasn't a big fan of fishing. However, Trevor made my first ice fishing experience fantastic. I caught fish, ate a reindeer sausage and enjoyed some of the fish we caught. Trevor is a wonderful cook!!

This wasn’t my first time fishing, but it was my first time ice fishing, and Trevor made it an incredible experience. After a quick introduction and demonstration, even beginners will feel like pros in no time. Trevor is extremely knowledgeable and, on top of that, an amazing cook. I don’t eat pork so I didn’t try the reindeer sausages myself, but I heard great reviews . When it was time to eat the fish, he let’s you choose our own seasoning—I went with the orange pepper, and it was absolutely delicious. The four hours flew by because I was having so much fun. I’d definitely love to come back and try the night ice fishing experience next time!

Trevor was an awesome guide! We caught 103 fish as a group of 4 not including the fish that Trevor caught. We had a bald eagle land just feet away from us that watched us fish. She was absolutely beautiful!! 10/10 recommend!

Way better than expected. Trevor was super friendly and patient. He made our experience so unforgettable. Initially I thought the 4hours??? That is so long!! At the end, I realized I did not want to stop. I wanted to do more. We caught close to 40 fish. My entire family loved it.

Had never ice fished before so I was quite excited to do this activity. The heated hut was quite chilly. The reindeer sausage was very tasty cooked over a grill. They drilled holes outside so you could fish inside or outside. I actually found it warmer outside! The part where I was disappointed actually has nothing to do with the tour. The lake is stocked with fingerling salmon that never have a chance to grow up. The average size of the fish caught was maybe 6 inches. Hardly worth grilling!!!! If I'm going ice fishing, I'd like to catch a much bigger fish! There are Port a potties!

Best excursion of our Fairbanks trip! Trevor was amazing and did everything he could to make sure we had a great experience! My husband and I caught roughly 20 fish total between the two of us. We also got to fish outside for a little bit which felt more authentic. The grilled fish and reindeer sausage was amazing. As a bonus, Trevor fed a local bald eagle and it came up close to us so we got incredible pictures of the bald eagle up close! Lastly, the group that was supposed to join us didn’t make it, so it was a private excursion for us! Do the morning fishing, the fish are more active and it’s worth it.

This experience was 10 out of 10. Colton, our guide, was phenomenal. He was friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. The fish was seasoned perfectly. This is a kid friendly experience that I cannot recommend enough. Both of my kids had a blast. If you are on the fence, go ahead and book this experience. You will not be disappointed.

Amazing experience. Easy to find location. Nice and warm fishing shed. All the gear and bait supplied. We had indoor and outdoor fishing options. Reindeer sausage cooked onsite was tasty. We caught 3-4 fish each. Salmon and trout. A few families were there with us and the kids were having a blast. They caught more than we did! Plus there was a bald eagle that came down to enjoy the fish heads. Got really close and made for great pictures. Our guide, Trevor, did a fantastic job and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He prepared the fish we caught and grilled them right there. Tasty and perfectly flavored. 100% would recommend.

Colton was an amazing guide and ensured our group had plenty of time to get our lines in the water. He had a variety of accommodations ready and cooked our fish very well!! Great guy to be around when ice fishing.

The cabin was warm, and the sausages tasted great. We did catch a few fish, and Trevor grilled them, fresh and delicious. It was a wonderful experience and a great memory.

Ice fishing today was fantastic. We caught a good number of fish and a nice size Rainbow Trout. Our guide cooked up our fish and it was delicious! We saw a Bald Eagle to top off the trip.

The experience overall was great but we started with our TripAdvisor confirmation not honored, was told that we were not in the list for the time we signed up for, we had to call the operator, waited until we got a confirmation email from Rod’s company.

Such a great experience! The cabin was cozy and we had so much fun. Noah was an excellent host, had everything ready for us and we caught a bunch of fish. The minute our hook was empty, he was there to bait it. Enjoyed reindeer hotdogs and he cooked up the fish we caught (both were delicious). It was a highlight of our trip!

Great time ice fishing. Riley, our guide was very helpful and was a great cook. We were served reindeer sausage and our very own rainbow trout that we caught. My first time catching a fish and I caught 5. My husband caught at least 12. First five minutes he had one on the line. Highly recommend. Christian, our driver was also very personable and pointed out points for interest along the drive. The cabin was very warm. No need for snow gear for this outing.

Had a great time! I was looking for ideas to take my husband on a date and he definitely enjoyed the experience. We caught some nice size fish and learned a lot! Would definitely recommend, we stayed warm and had fun.

Jay was great!! He was very careful to make sure everyone had a good time and was interesting to talk with. Everyone caught several fish with some catching 15 or more. Most are released with only 4-5 kept and Jay cooked those towards the end of the trip and there were excellent. The shed is comfy with a wood heater and hot chocolate and coffee. Everyone had a great time and would certainly recommend this trip to others.

I had a great time ice fishing and it was way more fun than I expected. The weather was perfect the setup was comfortable and the whole experience was relaxing and exciting at the same time. Our guide Noah was awesome and made sure we had everything we needed while keeping things fun and easy. We caught fish stayed warm and just enjoyed being out on the ice. I would definitely do it again and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun winter activity

What an amazing experience this was! We had an absolute blast! Our expert, Noah, was phenomenal. He was extremely attentive and helpful with everything. He somehow noticed immediately any time someone reeled up an empty hook and would put a new bait on it so we can get right back to fishing. He made sure everyone had a great time and in general, the vibe between 3 very different groups was so easy-going and fun. We all joked around, laughed, caught some fish and then Noah cooked the fish (delicious, by the way) and that was it. I HIGHLY recommend everyone try this experience when coming to Fairbanks in the winter. Thank you, Noah, for making this so much fun for us.

The tour guide was very friendly and patient in teaching the children how to use fishing gear. The temperature today was -49 degrees Celsius, and we are grateful to the tour guide for making hot dogs for everyone on site.

Absolutely amazing experience especially for the price, our guide Trevor was fantastic. Very accommodating (we were an hour late), funny stories, kept it warm, good cooking. He was also consistently helpful in unhooking and retrieving fish, even with a dozen people in the cabin. He also played chill music on a speaker, which made the experience very relaxing. Fishing in Alaska was on my bucket list, and I caught 10 fish in 3 hours! We are very satisfied with our experience at Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service, and would heavily recommend it if you’re at all interested in ice fishing!

My husband and lucked out by choosing Rod’s as our choice to do dog sledding and ice fishing. Of no fault of theirs the snowmobiling was canceled due to a streak of colder temps which tells us they are mindful of their customers, the animals and they guides. We were thankful for Christian picking us up and dropping us off due to having no rental car. He was fun and got us excited for our first adventure with Rods. We got to do an abbreviated dog sled tour with Elkie and we loved it ! You can tell she and the dogs truly love being out there ! Then we did the aurora ice fishing tour with Riley. Let me tell you the late night fishing was a blast thanks to Riley! It was New Year’s Eve and despite slow fishing we saw the northern lights , ate delicious reindeer sausage and some of us caught fish. Lastly we did a day time ice fishing tour with Trevor in the ice huts in total caught 60 fish which was cooked for us. We also got to see a wild eagle. And Trevor was very experienced and with tips for catching fish and eating it. He cooked up trout and salmon which was fresh and delicious! Everyone was kind and even despite unusual temps they were enthusiastic and welcoming! I would recommend Rods without a doubt! Especially with the last minute adaptations that had to happen due to cold snaps and like us needing help with transportation they will have your back. They care about your experience!

Our guide Riley is very good. He is knowledgeable and friendly. He helped our kids fishing and shared his fun stories. The cooked reindeer sausage and the fish (salmon & trout) we caught are both delicious. The cabin is very warm with a wood stove. You might want to sit a little far away from the stove which sometimes got uncomfortably hot. All in all, it is a fun experience. But the ice fishing itself is kind of boring and doesn't need much skill. Just stare at a pre-drilled ice hole. The fish are mostly small/tiny. 5 to 10 inches. If you have never done it, it is something to try but no desire to repeat.

It was the best experience ever. Trevor our guide is the best. He welcomed us to the cabin with hot coffee and chocolate. The cabin in the middle of the lake was comfy and warm and even with a small speaker rocking the experience. He gave us all the needed instructions. We caught 15 fish including a 12 inches artic char. Trevor cooked some reindeer sausages that were delicious and when we were done fishing he cooked all species caught so we try them all. Salmon, trout and char were so tasteful. We highly recommend this tour, it is well worth the cost. Thanks Trevor.

This experience was amazing. Our Cabin got around 52 fish and we eat the biggest ones. Trevor was an amazing instructor and they also gave us reindeer hot dogs (were delicious 😋). I would book with them again in the future.

I participated in an ice fishing tour, which was an interesting way to experience a classic Alaskan winter activity. The group stayed inside a wooden cabin on the ice, which was warm and comfortable throughout the three to four hours. The activity is quite slow-paced, so those without a particular interest in fishing may find it somewhat long and quiet. The captain offered limited guidance when fish weren’t biting, which could leave beginners uncertain about what to do. On the positive side, he did grill the fish that were caught and shared them with everyone, creating a pleasant communal moment. Overall, it’s worth trying once for the experience, but for more engagement or action, I would recommend choosing a different winter activity.

noah is really nice and good at cooking. It is easy fishing and not cold at all. Out side is -34, but very warm inside

High recommended Noah( hopefully spelled right. He came from NY and was here for more than 10 years. Really nice, experienced and fun. I caught three fish that day. But some people in the cabin didn’t at all. Probably will be better to go in the morning. Heard one lady caught 15 fish the same day in the morning.

Did you really go to Alaska if you didn't fish? Winter or Summer fishing is a Must do in Alaska!. Noah was a great guide for our first time ice fishing. He was patient, humorous and helpful as well as a great chef for sausage and fish (caught by us). Great location and experience. Recommend!

The wife and I took an excursion to try our hand at ice fishing. Our host was Noah and he showed us the ropes. He was helpful baiting our fishing rods and unhooking our catch. The cabin was warm and comfortable, and we had a total of 8 people during our time. Everyone caught fish, with rainbow trout, and small salmon as the main species. Noah also grilled for reindeer sausages and our fish catch. The grilled fish couldn't have been any fresher and was excellent. We highly recommend this excursion!

We had such a wonderful time! Riley did an amazing job—he patiently taught us how to bait the hook and how to reel in the fish when it took the bite. He kept us great company throughout and even helped us prepare delicious hot dogs in the end, which were absolutely tasty. It was truly a joyful day! I sincerely hope I’ll have the chance to go fishing in Fairbanks again someday.

Stayed nice and warm while spending a few hours ice fishing. Our guide Noah was great, kept our hooks baited, the cabin warm and the laughter going. Great experience.
