Wrapping up an incredible 4 days in Fairbanks, chasing the lights. We heard the aurora forecast was good but the temps in Fairbanks were still cold in mid March. Our tour guide recommended Alaska Outdoor Gear rental. Lauryn was amazing she helped us choose the right cold weather gear and we had it delivered to the hotel. We saw the Aurora every night. It was spectacular, and worth the sleepless nights and cold temps. Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental has excellent gear, clean and in nearly new condition. They even gave our son 2 pairs of gloves for price of 1 with the rental. One for play and said keep one pair dry for tours.
We travelled to Fairbanks in March and rented the Canada Goose Expedition Package -40F pkg. It was exceptionally warm and we got to choose our colors. Parkas are very warm and were needed for our snowmobiling and dog sledding adventures. The gears kept us very warm.
We came from Florida to chase the lights. Alaska weather is intimidating and Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental eased our fears. We rented the extreme cold package, which was very much needed when temps were hovering around -30Fs. They gave us wonderful recommendations and even locations and how to chase the lights on our own. We had a great trip.
Needed extreme cold weather gear to chase the lights and snowmachine up in Fairbanks. Alaska Outdoor Gear kept us warm. They layered us up in the North Face McMurdo Parka Bibs and Boots. We handled -40F temps with no problem.
We travelled to Fairbanks for a family vacation during the -40F cold snap in December. Lauryn was wonderful and helped us choose the right cold weather parkas, snowpants and boots. She even had inner jackets to make sure we were very warm. We caught the aurora several nights and it was everything we hoped it would be. Such a great trip. We chose hotel concierge service to return our gear to save time. We were a group Of 12. It was so convenient and cost less than a cab or Lyft.
Visiting Fairbanks in winter can be deceiving — even if you bring ski clothing, it’s often not warm enough for the extreme cold. Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental is an excellent option for anyone who arrives and quickly realizes they need warmer, more serious cold-weather gear. They offer proper parkas, snow pants, boots, and layering options so you don’t have to overpack or buy expensive gear just for one trip. Being able to rent additional layers or a heavier parka makes a huge difference, especially in Fairbanks temperatures. This is a great solution for travelers who want to stay comfortable and safe in the cold without bringing everything with them. Highly recommend keeping them in mind when visiting Fairbanks in winter.
Very friendly service, great quality gear (Northface and Kavik). I got the extreme package even if it’s not that cold since I’m from Hawaii and not used to cold. Gear kept us warm and comfortable for hours standing outside taking Aurora photos. Didn’t have to go warm up in the van even once. Loved that the pants had zippers on the side so we didn’t overheat while riding inside the tour van. Texted the company directly after purchase to coordinate and pay for pick up and drop off.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 We rented our cold weather gear from here and had a great experience. The staff was super friendly and helped us pick from a great selection of quality gear. Everything held up perfectly and kept us warm and comfortable, which made it easy to enjoy the Alaskan outback. We will definitely use them again when we come back in the winter!
We were so glad we rented our gear from Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental. First of all, the owner of the Fairbanks location was so friendly and helpful on the phone. They were able to drop off and pick up our gear at our hotel so we could use it on our first night (late flight arrival time). Then when I needed to swap out my boots for a different fit, they were very accommodating and made it very easy for us to get another pair. We were very pleased with the quality of the gear—everything was super clean and practically new, and the waterproof boots kept our feet nice and toasty even at night walking through snowdrifts. I was glad that we also added the ice spikes -- we did a lot of walking around in the dark looking at the aurora and the spikes helped us feel more sure of our footing on icy patches. Would highly recommend renting gear from them if you want to save on luggage space.
We rented the extreme cold package and had it delivered to Pike Hotel. Everything fit great except one person needed to swap out boots. They delivered the another pair quickly. Loved how quick and easy everything was. The Extreme Cold weather gear was very clean and in great condition. We liked how we could chose parka, snowpant, boot types. They had many options and styles. We also rented Snowshoes, jet boil and Bear spray for hiking in Denali. We took the recommendation from Lauryn, to stop along the way as we drove back to Anchorage at the end of our trip. So glad we did. It was a gorgeous drive. We had a great trip of Aurora viewing, Dog Sledding, Snowmobiling and Winter Hiking in Denali.
Thank goodness for Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental! They provided excellent and friendly service and helped us with our gear and answered all the questions we had during our Alaska visit. The gear was all clean, in great shape, and super warm. It definitely made our trip more comfortable being in proper clothes and boots and saved us from having to buy everything! They have options to pick-up, drop-off, or delivery in multiple locations which is what we needed. They were so flexible and NICE, would highly recommend!!
Extreme parka snowpant and boot package was a great choice for aurora viewing and dog sledding and it kept us very warm. They had many options to choose from. Found a great fit. We returned our gear bag at our hotel.
We went on an aurora tour and we needed cold weather clothing. We stayed very warm and were able to enjoy the northern lights. Very clean and nice selection of parkas. snow pants or bibs, boots etc. Lauryn was wonderful to work with!
Dave was a pleasure to do business with. My gear was sized perfectly and ready when I landed in Fairbanks. Drop off was seamless and everyone was very communicative.
Wow! That word sums up my experience with Michelle and Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental. They delivered accurate sizes to my hotel based on height and weight. The aurora was kicking off so they delivered a day early at no additional expense so I could catch the aurora. I am from the south and have never been in this kind of extreme weather. So I was scared. Michelle and her team answered my questions over phone and everything is accurate. The clothes make all the difference and the rental cost very affordable. The clothes were clean and in great condition. I highly recommend Michelle and Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental.
My family and I got all the gear we needed for 4 days of Aurora watching in Coldfoot! I was toasty warm with the coat, bib, boots, and gloves provided. I also loved the flexibility of being able to pick up and drop off the gear until 9:00 pm!!
I live in the south where it rarely snows or gets to a negative degree so renting gear was the best way to go. They had all sizes. The lady was very helpful in getting me properly prepared for the cold weather. She recommended places to go and things to do too
We rented the 3 piece extreme cold package - Snowpants, Parka and boots. We went out to watch the aurora and went snowshoeing. We were very warm and its easy to move around it. We even went sledding at the ice park Alaska. Which I highly recommend that too. Alaska Outdoor Gear rents sleds. Check out the Ice Slides and Ice sculptures. Alaska Outdoor Gear helped us plan our trip and gave us many tips and shared helpful websites to make sure we made the most of our trip. We returned our gear rental at the hotel which was very easy and fast. Great trip. Pikes restaurant has great burgers and Banks is good too
Excellent gear - Warm winter parkas, snowpants and winter boot rentals from Alaska Outdoor Gear Rental. Many options & sizes to choose from. We were worried about the temperatures and what we needed. We returned to the Pike hotel which was helpful and saved us time. The aurora was amazing. Book in advance- your hotel, car, winter clothing rentals. March is a very busy month. We enjoyed a day trip to Denali National park to snowshoe and hike and many nights of aurora viewing. We were very warm! Chena Hot Springs is a must.
Since we're from Southern California, this family owned & operated outfitter was excellent by providing us with warmest gear for us. If you're coming to Fairbanks in the cold months and don't wanna spend and pack the gear, then rent from them.
This company was excellent to deal with. They listened to what we needed, made suggestions for what else we might want, and did exactly as they promised. Our gear was delivered to Pike’s Waterfront Lodge in Fairbanks, the day before we arrived, and we were able to leave it with Pike’s‘s when we left Alaska. All the clothing fit perfectly and we were extremely warm the whole time. We would strongly recommend using Alaska outdoor gear rental if you’re making a winter trip to Alaska.
