Anchorage Aurora Tour And Northern Lights Photo

Erica, our guide, was great! She drove us to several places looking for the lights. She was able to capture many wonderful shots, including the Milky Way and what seemed like millions of stars. We are happy with the pictures and would go through them again.

First night was with Erica. Fog did not deter her and she found an amazing spot. Second time out was with Chad and Colin. Clouds but they found a spot and the numbers were very good. Another amazing experience. Two nights the number and/or cloud layer was not favorable and we were able to catch up on sleep.

Erica was an exceptional guide. She was very informative to those of us who had never seen the lights. She is a very kind person and was easy to talk to. The lights turned out to be fantastic. A once in a lifetime experience for some of us. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone. 10 out of 10.

What an awesome experience and our guide CHAD made it even better. Extremely knowledgeable and personable. I felt his passion for the aurora borealis. He took awesome pictures and shared his photography knowledge with us. He was very patient with our photo requests and really took some great photos. I highly recommend this experience. The cloud coverage interfered with our viewing a bit but we were still able to view some significant auroras. Thank you again!!

Got to see Lady Aurora! A huge thank-you to Alaska Photo Treks, especially the owner and award-winning Alaskan photographer, Carl Johnson. At first, I was beginning to lose hope. The forecast was 50/50, and we thought the clouds might get in the way. However, the real challenge was that the aurora took a long time to put on a show. Carl was incredibly patient and explained everything to us throughout the tour. He detected the aurora while it was still very faint, but she became truly visible only during the final part of our trip. We waited from 11 PM until almost 4 AM for that moment. Lady Aurora wasn’t simply given to us. We had to be patient, but the wait was worth it. She finally revealed herself and even danced for us. It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m very grateful to Carl and Alaska Photo Treks for making it possible.

Nothing is guarantee to see the northern light. We were able to get a little bit of the northern lights from tour guide’s camera because of all the cloud cover the sky. $315 per person for seeing nothing is very disappointed. Tour Chad is professional and knowledgeable.

We had a great time learning about and searching for the Northern Lights! Ben was very knowledgeable and helpful. We could tell he wanted us to have a great experience. He went above and beyond to find the perfect spot and conditions for us to see the lights…and we did see them! Thanks, Ben, for helping us accomplish one of the big items on our bucket list!! It was well worth pulling the “all nighter” our first night in Alaska!!

The photography guides are incredible and clearly know their stuff. For visitors with professional gear, this is an excellent crash course in night photography. If the northern lights show up, I am sure it is an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, the lights did not appear during our tour. We ended up sitting in the cold for hours just taking standard night shots. A major warning: if you do not have a professional camera, this tour is not for you. Without pro gear, you will leave with zero good photos on your phone. I understand they cannot control nature, but paying this much money to sit in the freezing dark feels like a massive gamble. It essentially turned into a glorified, expensive night taxi driven by a very knowledgeable photographer

We had an amazing time on this tour. We received info before leaving saying the conditions weren’t optimal and we were given the choice to cancel. We decided to go ahead and were so glad we did. Our tour guide, Erica was amazing. Incredibly knowledgeable and knew right where to take us when the sky finally cleared up enough to see. She took some incredible pictures to share with us and coached us on how to take our own. So thankful we got to see the northern lights, but feel confident it would have been worth it without the sky clearing up given the amount of knowledge gained from Erica. Excellent experience.

Enchanted night 🤩 I don’t think I’ll ever have the words to describe the beauty of the Aurora Borealis, but I will say it made me cry twice. 🥹 It was the experience of a lifetime! Colin was our tour guide and he was THE BEST!! You can tell he loves what he does. He did a great job at capturing portraits of us as well as teaching us about how and when to view the Aurora Borealis. The trip in total lasted about 6 hours. (which I thought was perfect!) The group was small, just us three and Colin. However, the energy was electric. Colin made sure we were all safe and warm (hand warmers were provided and the tour van was kept warm during our stops in case we needed to warm up a bit). He also provided hot apple cider, hot cocoa and snacks. We made multiple stops during the 6 hours. It truly was a thrilling experience! 1,000,000/10 recommend 🤩🌌💛🥹

This experience was honestly everything. Seeing the Aurora Lights in person was literally a dream come true for me. Pictures really don’t do it any justice at all — it’s way more beautiful and surreal in real life. The way the colors move across the sky is just… unreal. The atmosphere was really nice too. It felt calm, peaceful, and just a whole vibe. Everything was set up in a way that made it easy to just enjoy the moment without feeling overwhelmed or rushed. The staff were amazing Mr. Ben and Ms. Monica they were super friendly, helpful, and just made everything run smoothly. You can tell they actually care about people having a good experience. The group size was a pretty decent size. It wasn’t too crowded, but it also didn’t feel empty either — it was like the perfect balance. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this to anyone. If it’s something you’ve been wanting to see, do it. It’s 100% worth it.

The Aurora Lights experience was truly unforgettable — seeing the lights in person was literally a dream come true. Pictures don’t even come close to capturing how beautiful and surreal they are. The way the colors move across the sky creates such a peaceful, almost magical feeling that’s hard to put into words. The overall atmosphere was amazing. It felt calm, immersive, and well put together, making it easy to just be in the moment and enjoy the experience. Everything flowed smoothly, and the setting really added to how special it felt. The staff were great — Ms. Anna and Mr. Ben they friendly, helpful, and organized. They made sure everyone felt comfortable and had what they needed, which made the experience even better. The group size was a pretty decent size — not too crowded, but still enough people to share the moment with. It felt balanced and didn’t take away from the experience at all. Overall, this is something I would absolutely recommend. If seeing the Aurora Lights is on your bucket list, this experience is definitely worth it.

We had a wonderful experience on the Anchorage Aurora Tour and Northern Lights Photo Tour. Everything was well organized, and the experience felt very special from start to finish. Our guide, Erica, was amazing. She was kind, patient, knowledgeable, and very supportive throughout the tour. It was very cold (-18 F), but she still took great care of us the whole time. We especially appreciated the calendars and the hot chocolate, which made the experience even more thoughtful and comforting. She helped make everyone feel comfortable and did a great job guiding us during the photo experience. Her encouragement and professionalism really made the night even better. The scenery was beautiful, and the whole tour was memorable. We really appreciated all the effort that went into helping us enjoy the northern lights and capture great photos. Highly recommend this tour, especially if you have Erica as your guide.

Went with my boyfriend and another couple and we were thrilled to have the possibility to see northern lights. We def were treated well by the night sky and our guide, Erika! Super friendly and talking about the hows and whys about auroras. She helped each group set up their camera on provided tripods (in case you didn’t bring your own). Pictures were taken professionally and I can’t explain how beautiful they looked! No moon and clear skies. I will say below freezing temps became intense as the night went by at each stop Lol. Hand and feet warmers provided along with snacks and hot drinks! A MUST DO. We def had great weather this week luckily. Photos taken using iPhone.

I used Alaska Photo Treks for a 4 night Northern Lights experience. We saw the light 3 out of the 4 nights. Ben, Colin, and Erika were all fantastic. They all had a desire to make our experience great. All were knowledgeable about the lights and where best times find them. Had a wonderful experience and will definitely use them again.

Our family selected the multi-day option and it was the most breathtaking experience. We had aurora multiple nights but each of our guides Ben,Erica, & Colin brought a great new perspective to the night. A variety of landscapes and great photography guidance made the entire tour package superb. This tour w/ this company is a must do!!!

A breathtaking and beautiful experience we will never forget. Ben was extremely patient and helpful with taking our photos, providing us tips on how to capture the lights on our cameras and providing us with knowledge on the northern lights. Erica was extremely helpful with setting up the tripod for us to take photos, as well as offering us items to keep warm. I will definitely recommend this tour and attraction to my family and friends because I had an amazing time with my girlfriend (now fiancé). We will never forget such a beautiful and wonderful time we had. Every second of it was worth it.

This was one of the best experiences of my life! It's always been a bucket list of mine to see the Northern Lights and Erica and Ben made that dream a reality! The whole process was extremely smooth! Very happy with our experience. The aurora's are very difficult to see with the naked eye, so it was very helpful to have photo experts to show you how to set your camera to shoot amazing photos! Also, liked the fact that if there was not a chance to see the aurora's they would give you advance notice and cancel the experience with a full refund. We rescheduled three times and the third time was a charm!!

Great tour guide, great views. A little overpriced, but the guide BEN went out of his way to show us fabulous sceneries, including a Moose in the City!

This was a fantastic tour! There were two guides, and they were both excellent. They took photos for us, and the photos were excellent. I recommend it.

An all-night adventure that was definitely worth the loss of sleep. Guide Erica was wonderful and tried to find us great spots to see the Northern Lights. The viewing on the first night was not great and the company offered us a 2nd chance at no additional cost. Definitely did not expect that. Viewing the 2nd night was much better. Erica helped with trying to set up cameras to get great shots. The company also provides some shots from your experience. Had always wanted to see the Northern Lights. Would do this tour again to get another chance.

It was a great experience searching for northern lights late at night. Colin and Erica were enthusiastic to find good spots for us. The van was fully equiped and they had a lot of gear to keep us from freezing in sub zero temperatures. It was fun to hear Colin's stories of his photography expeditions all over the world.

Erica was an amazing guide. She helped with everything from start to finish, and the result was so amazing shots of the little bit of the aurora that we saw. We went to several locations and set up and got some awesome photos. It was wonderful to have someone else drive a van, provide handwarmers and tripods and advice on settings. She was also there to make sure there was no bears or moose in the dark wilderness. What a relief.

We booked our northern lights tour at the very beginning of the season knowing it would be hit or miss. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate so our tour did not run. I am still giving 5 stars to the excellent communication and customer service - we were notified with plenty of time and offered to reschedule. When the rescheduled tour also didn't run we were given a full refund within a couple days. It would have been easy for them to take our money and have us looking at clouds all night so I really appreciate the integrity. We will try again next time we are in Anchorage!

Erica was our guide for the night. She did a great job at helping set up cameras in manual settings for those of us that needed some guidance. She would let us know when we should be changing our settings to help capture the changes we were seeing. It was a great night! We were lucky enough to get to experience the Aurora’s for a couple hours! Erica also ensured that everyone on tour got individual or group photos under the beautiful colours. From booking online to drop off at the end of the excursion this was a great company to work with, they provide clear instructions and are willing to help make your time in Alaska what you want it to be.

Absolutely 100% worth every penny!!! Our guide Colin was amazing! He took us north from Anchorage and stopped every half hour or so to check the skies and the aurora meters, then moved on further north if the environment wasn't perfect. We ended up about 2 hours north in a little place called Talkeetna and the auroras were on full display. There was even a lake or river to create magnificent reflections and even better photos. We stayed for about 3 hours getting better and better shots, including camera and lighting setup so he could get a few shots with us and the auroras. He served us some really yummy hot chocolate and even brought us soup if we wanted it. Above and beyond! On another note, this company will refund the fee if they are unable to take you out. They won't take anyone out if there isn't a chance to actually see the northern lights. That's dedication and consideration rolled into a great corporate plan! If you get the chance, just do it! You won't regret it.

First of all, it was a tricky evening for Aurora, but I tell you, Chad went for it! Patient, super fun guide with tons of knowledge and great to kick it with and willing to go the extra mile! Great company. We did the tour two nights. Passionate guides who were able to get us views of the northern lights! For someone who has never seen the lights, I am very grateful we booked a tour to go see them. I don’t think we would’ve ever known what to look for or where to go otherwise.

Amazing night out chasing the Auroras on our first trip to Anchorage. Ben and Erica were amazing guides and very knowledgeable. Also, they were amazing photographers and the photos are even more spectacular. Great experience. Dress warmer than you think you need to! Especially if you go in the winter!

Ben was the guide on New Year's Eve, and the evening was lovely! He helped with figuring out how to take photos, and provided a tripod (even though I didn't request one in advance). Ben took us to his favorite beauty wilderness spots, and we saw an epic display. I'd booked a 4-night tour, but ended up only going the first night because it was so good, and also it was very cold. Standing there in the cold takes it out of you, so make sure your gear is good. I didn't realize my snow boots were failing until that night, and it was a bummer to have cold feet. But the tour was excellent and well worth the money.

I've been chasing the Northern Lights for YEARS. This hasn't been just a bucket list item for me, it's an obsession. I've literally traveled around the world hunting Aurora. This year, I've come to Alaska with the singular mission to see Aurora! I booked with Alaska Photo Treks and Chad was our guide. I love when a professional is geeky about their work...I find in those cases, the experience is always much more than average...it's in depth and filled with years of knowledge gained through study and hands on testing and actual real life experience. THIS is what I got with Chad. His ability to describe the science behind the phenomenon as well as how to find Aurora and what to look for, and what to avoid and why to look for certain elements has given me an adventure of chasing Aurora that's worth sharing with the grandkids. I've now seen Aurora and am absolutely in love. I will travel back to the lower 48 where we are mostly unlikely to see her, but I know it won't be our last time hanging out. And now I feel SO MUCH MORE prepared to chase because not only do I have real life experience, I've come home with a whole new set of tools to properly chase the Norther Lights.
