Itinerary
At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center visitors are free to explore over 140 acres of natural habitat home to bears, moose, reindeer, lynx and other native wildlife.
The point is a definite must stop location as the views are spectacular! Beluga Point, a rocky outpost jutting into the waters of Turnagain Arm, is just south of Anchorage along the Seward Highway. It’s named for the white whales that are often spotted from this location as they make their way up and down the inlet. Beluga's are often seen between July and August.
Alaska's Turnagain Arm on the Seward Highway is among those voted as one of the country's most unforgettable, must see areas of Alaska. MANY HAVE SAID THAT IF YOU MISS VISITING SIGHTS ALONG THE TURNAGAIN ARM- - YOU HAVE MISSED ALASKA!
Portage Valley is a 14 mile isthmus that connects the Kenai Peninsula to mainland Alaska. Portage Glacier once extended the entire length of the valley. The glacial remnants seen today are Explorer, Middle, Byron, Burns, and Shakespeare glaciers. While still massive in size, these glaciers stand as smaller reminders of the immense ice sheets that once covered this landscape.

Wonderful tour guide. We saw Dall Sheep and Beluga Whales! Beautiful scenery. We had a lovely time and highly recommend it.
It was a very nice trip. Despite the weather our tour guide Brooks made the best of out of the time we had and his knowledge of the area was very interesting and informative.
A super great host! Knew all about the glaciers and lakes! So informative and we were on time for everything!!!
Beautiful views ! Great tour guide! Went in October and the leaves were changing, the scenery was beautiful.
Gary was an amazing tour guide! Super knowledgeable and engaging for the entirety of the tour. The conservation center was lovely and it was wonderful to learn more about Alaska's natural landscape and its wildlife.
Brooks was amazing. He gave so many historical and general knowledge tidbits. I got to see so many things on my bucket list.
Beautiful trip and the occasional rain didn’t stop us. Melissa our guide was super friendly and knowledgeable.
Laid back vibes that appropriately fit Alaska. Majestic views everywhere you turn and look. Thank you!
This was a relaxed tour. Ride a bit, get out and walk around a bit, look at scenery, back into van. Brooks was an excellent guide!! Ask for him!! Informative, fun and you can tell he loves his job!!! Wouldn’t do this again, unless it was with him!! In the last several days we have had at least 8 different tour guides. Brooks was by far the best!!! Set a high bar for the others to follow!!!
Due to no fault of my own the operator failed to book my tour because of lack of four people. When later after not hearing from them I made other plans. They refused to reimburse me for the tour. That is theft.
Very good. The guide was entertaining and also knowledgeable. I noticed that all the tour guides take extra efforts to make it memorable. Also they enjoy what they are doing. They were not rushing
Lots of good local information and wonderful views of the area. Glad we did the conservation center to see the animals in case we don’t get another chance to see the wildlife. Thanks Brooks!
Gary was our guide and he really knows his stuff! The wildlife conservation center was interesting and I’m glad I got to see bears and moose. Plus Gary gave us some restaurant recs and we went to one last night. It was very good. We had walked by it several times and wouldn’t have tried it if Gary hadn’t said it was good
The tour is full of scenic landscape, mountains, rivers and lakes. We made several stops, two of my favorites were the Wildlife Conservation center and Explorer Glacier and Lake. The animals at the conservation center were viewable in a natural habitat like setting.
It was great to have guaranteed animal sightings. And additionally a safe way for a whole family to view animals.
Had a great experience at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation center tour with Rezy. Rezy was very knowledgeable and accommodating and a wonderful guide for the afternoon! Rezy also pointed out some interesting and beautiful areas that were a bonus for our tour!
Had a great tour with Melissa. She provided a lot of interesting commentary about Alaska history, nature, and culture. We especially enjoyed learning about her Alaskan heritage and subsistence foraging, fishing, and hunting. The scenery en route to the wildlife conservation center was breathtaking, and the weather was perfect to catch many of the animals out in the sun at the conservation center. Loved, loved, loved watching the bears play in the snow. It was a huge treat to get a close up view of the bears, the moose, musk ox, and the Canadian lynx. Visitors should be aware that there are some things you can’t see in winter (mainly, the beluga whales), but the trade-off is getting to see mountains covered in snow.
It was in March and part of my trip experience going to the Iditarod. The pluses were the tour guide gave us a few unscheduled stops (Wild Berry Farm 👍) and had time to drop us off at our hotel. That was very much appreciated. We saw a Dall sheep on the mountain and he stopped and turned around so we could get out of the van for photos. Loved that! You definitely need to be agile and a good walker to see the Wildlife Conservation area in freezing icy, snowy weather. Luckily at 76 years old I could do it. I think the best time to see all the animals (bears, etc which we didn’t) would be in warmer weather. We saw wolves, musk ox, reindeer and moose.
Terrible communication but the tour itself was fine. There was no information provided by the tour company prior to the tour. I tried to contact them on viator and on the phone to understand the finishing time, but received no response at all. This was frustrating and I had to reach out to Viator to check if the tour provider was still active on the site. The tour itself was great. Our guide, Melissa, was amazing and shared a wealth of information with us about the state, the way of life of the local people, about wildlife. The wildlife conservation centre was really cool, and the views to and from there were absolutely stunning.
A beautiful day and drive to explore the beauty outside of Anchorage. Finally got to see some of the Alaskan Wildlife up close. Melissa was a great and knowledgeable guide. Very much enjoyed her sharing her local knowledge
We had really good experience. Melizsa is amazing!!! She is really friendly and kind. Definitely coming back in summer season and highly recommended!!!
Gary was an amazing guide and truly loved Alaska. He talked about many things along the way and would love to have him as a guide again. It was one of the best tours we have had here in Alaska.
Amazing scenery and Matthew the tour guide was exceptional—he knew his stuff. I’d highly recommend!!
Matthew was amazing! He made it fun and informative, paying attention to every detail of our tour✨ Really enjoying Anchorage 🏔️ Thank you, Matthew 🏔️
Exactly as described! Matthew was great! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Beautiful scenery. Would recommend.
The views were incredible! Our driver Matthew was amazing. Very knowledgeable and fun! He even fixed our tour date when I mistakenly booked the wrong day. Would absolutely recommend to anyone!
This was an interesting tour with a variety of stops. Matthew was a nice guide who helped take group pictures at stops.
This tour was one of the best I had ever been on. Matt was very knowledgeable about Alaskan culture and geography, which provided a very enjoyable experience. This is definitely a must-do tour for anyone visiting the Anchorage area!
The experience was great, the places is amazing during the winter time. Matthew was great as a tour guide, could make a couple of more stops to find wildlife.
I would highly recommend taking this trip, especially if you only have a short time to spend in Anchorage. It packs a lot in to one day without feeling rushed. This lets you experience as much of the beautiful sights and experiences without the hassle of planning or stress. The tour guides are informative and fun!
The tour was a perfect way to see and learn about the sights along the Turnagain Arm. Matt was very engaging and answered all questions the group had. The sights were amazing and I would recommend this tour for anyone.
It was a lovely trip and the guide was extraordinary. Extremely informed. Lots of stops. Beautiful countryside.
Matt was our guide and he is outstanding. His knowledge is vast and he knew just the right time to arrive at attractions to get the best interactions. Scenery is absolutely stunning and he makes it even better. Highly recommend this tour and this guide
We had a great experience with Alaska's Finest twice in March 2025: First, they helped us quickly pull together an excursion for a group of 22 from the Alyeska Resort to see the tidal bore on the Turnagain Arm, one evening. While waiting and speculating whether and when to would indeed come in, they drove us to different viewpoints - and, in the end, just before it got too dark, the magic happened: We saw it! Thanks for that! :-) Second, we had a most amazing excursion for a smaller group of people to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, combined with glimpses over Portage Lake and a walk along Brines Creek towards the glacier where it originates. We tremendously enjoyed the knowledgeable guide and driver who explained to us what we saw in the context of the geological and historical experiences in Alaska! Once again, thank you, AF!!
The tour was amazing! We got to see wildlife animals in the reserve, it was a unique experience. Our tour guide Matthew was very helpful, and so understanding. We drove from Fairbanks to Anchorage for this tour, we weren’t able to make it on time due to the snow, and Matthew went out of his way for us to still experience the tour! Thank you a million, We are looking forward having more tours with you guys!
This tour was absolutely amazing! The views were incredible and the wildlife conservation center was a highlight. We got to see moose, bear, lynx, wolves and other animals that had been rescued from various situations in the wild and now live there. Matt was our tour guide and was really wonderful. He was a wealth of information and gave us a ton of information about the area, the history, the wildlife, etc. in a way that was easy to understand, educational and entertaining. I would highly recommend this tour and Matt as your guide!
Matthew was great tour guide. I had one day of unexpected free time, and this tour was perfect. Matt was informative, friendly, and helped make a great day
Matthew was such an awesome tour guide! Very informative while also adding humor into it so there was never a dull moment. The views were breathtakingly beautiful and we were even lucky enough to see the bears! 10/10 would do it again, and if I can I would request Matt again as well!
Thank you for an unforgettable tour! Matt was an excellent guide. He shared interesting background stories of the animals we encountered at the Conservation Center, stopped at Explorer Glacier where we got to see the view that was the subject of Bob Ross's paintings, and visited the massive Portage Lake, where all sense of perspective/scale went out the window. We (me, 45 yo and my hard to please 12 yo and 10 yo sons) had a great time!
Everything about trip was smooth and fun. Easy to book and great communication about logistics from company. Carl, our tour guide, was the best! So sweet, informative, fun, safe. We saw super cool things. Great way to spend a few hours outside of Anchorage.
We had an amazing time with our guide. We didn’t initial realize that we’d make a lunch stop in Girdwood on the way out to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. The van was plenty warm. There was a text one day prior with helpful details including itinerary details, van photo to help with pickup, and more. The short walk at the end through the Alaskan rainforest overlooking the glacial lake was a highlight. Our guide was so passionate about explaining her upbringing in rural Alaska, sharing Native culture, and making sure we had a great time. We appreciated the whole tour and had a great experience!
Loved the incredible views and the knowledge and history received from the guide. We spotted a moose and he gave us extra time for photos and helped us out. Enjoyable tour!
Facinating! Our tour guide Matt provided lots of information about the area and Alaska in general. It was a really enjoyable day tour.
Overall the tour was great. Enjoyed the scenery and the commentary. Matt was a great guide The wildlife conservation park was interesting
Very interesting tour! I would highly recommend this to anyone who is considering booking. Our guide Matthew was great! He took his time with the tour and we were able to get some amazing photos! I am planning to visit Alaska in the spring and most definitely I'll book tours with Alaska's Finest Tours & Cruises.

AMAZING! Sites at Turnagain, Portage and Girdwood were magazine-worthy, animal center is FANTASTIC! Matthew was the best!!
Matthew was wonderful! Great tour. Matthew was very knowledgeable and went the extra mile. Great fir adults and kids.
This is some thing I would typically never do on my own, but it was a once in a lifetime adventure, and Matthew did not disappoint! He is so knowledgeable about the whole area and Alaska and general, and made our trip extremely special. I enjoyed getting to know everyone else on the van, and I always felt safe with Matthew driving even with the road conditions. The scenery and the beauty of Alaska was more than I could’ve ever dreamed of!!! Awesome experience!!!
