1st Alaska was easy to work with, always on time and very accomodating. Our guide, Daniel, was amazing. Very personable and knowledgeable about Alaska, the northern lights and dog mushing. It is hard to believe this is his 1st year as a guide. He told great stories and did an amazing job of taking care of and encouraging a large group of people. He made everyone feel comfortable and welcome. By chance, we had Daniel as a guide for all three of our 1st Alaska adventures and we are so glad we did. Thank you for helping to make our time in Alaska even more enjoyable.

The best Alaska dog sledding and dog mushing experience! Today, dog mushing is a fascinating sport and hobby, but it was once the primary means of transportation across the snowy landscapes of old-time Alaska. Before your ride, take time to meet your mushing team, interact with our Alaskan huskies, and capture photos together. Then, mush into the twilight of the Alaskan wilderness and experience the thrill of the ride. Enjoy the scenery and feel the power of the happy, hardworking dogs as they pull the sled across the snow at surprising speeds. After your 1-hour ride, warm up in a cozy yurt and enjoy hot beverages in the peaceful atmosphere of the Alaskan wilderness.

It was incredible riding the sled through the forest. The dogs were all super sweet and it was great meeting them before we set off. George picked us up at the hotel and told us lots of interesting facts about Fairbanks on the way to the sledding point, he was very nice and knowledgable. Ash and Daniel were the ones who took us out on the sleds and they were both very personable and made it an amazing experience! Highly recommend, the kids were 6 and 7 years old and they loved it!
What an unexpected fantastic experience! We are seniors (ages 69 and 74). Brought our elderly aunt who is 88 years old. We saw the Aurora Borealis twice and didn’t think we could ask for more. Wrong! The dog sledding was the best part of our trip. We almost passed because it was so cold and we thought the sleds might jostle our old bones too much. We wisely decided to go for it and now keep patting ourselves on the back for making such a good call to participate. Our driver, Tanner picked us up from the Lodge and as a native Alaskan, enlightened us with hometown tidbits about Fairbanks. He was very personable and informative. Our musher was Daniel who was luckily our guide from our Northern Lights tour the night before. You can tell he really loves his job - very passionate about the dogs and the sport. One of the perks of the tour is playing with the dogs - they love people and are so happy and yappy - they are all vying for your attention for hugging and loving. The best part of the sledding is the exhilarating feeling you get from the speed, the cold and being out in nature. There is speed, but Daniel is very skilled at controlling the dogs. He narrates so well that I, the one in the Fri t seat could easily hear everything even I was so bundled up. Caveat - your hands get really cold even with ski gloves. Get those hand warmers and insert into your gloves. The blanket provided keeps you pretty warm. You may want to double up on your socks. Definitely recommend face coverings, gaiters or balaclavas are really valuable. Wear sun glasses as the snow is blinding. The hot chocolate when we got back to the yurt was so welcoming and comforting. Highly recommend this excursion.
This was an awesome adventure! Everyone should experience this hard stop! The people were great, the dogs were amazing and the experience was off the charts!
Amazing experience. The dogs were so friendly. Our tour guide George was amazing. Would definitely recommend!!
The driver for this event, George, was an educator, and very informative. That was great! Meeting the dogs and mushers was incredible. Our musher, Dan was so caring and friendly, and drove our sled well. We had met him by chance the night before while on a tour to Chena Hot Springs. I think he made sure he was our musher! It was a cold but sunny afternoon. Lovely ride!
Tanner was great driver. Safe on road and very knowledgeable. Robert the musher was very skilled and taught us much about the dogs and all the skills needed The ride was smooth and fun. Top notch outfit.
Our guide/driver, Tanner, and, our musher, Ash, were absolutely wonderful. Very informative with good information, very much in tuned to safety awareness. The dogs were a delight and very well trained - the trails and scenery were spectacular!
This was a great experience first, we got a ride from our hotel to the yurt where we could leave our belongings then we had areally fun dog sledding excursion before the dog sledding, we actually got to go interact with all of the dogs and they were really sweet and fun Then after the dog sledding, we had a wonderful dinner back at the yurt and then we viewed the northern lights we were able to view the northern lights through the big your windows, but we could also go outside to take better pictures.
Great bunch of people!!! Daniel was a great driver and sled musher!!! Playing with the dogs was lots of fun but the best part was the sled ride.
George the driver that took us to the dog sledding is amazing. Very personable, patient, and a team player. The team, the dogs and the ride are an unforgettable experience. The connection between the dogs and the humans is palpable. If folks would learn from them, our children would live in a better world. This world would be incredible. George took the time to video the group leaving and the groups returning. Then invited all of us to come and get our video from him. Thanks to George, we have memories to share with our loved ones and be able to revisit for years to come. Thank you George. Thank you Daniel, Robert and the lead guy for teaching us about your world, caring for those beautiful dogs and making sure we had a safe and wonderful experience. Daniel, thanks for guiding our sled and being an awesome person. We appreciated our humor if though we can see your job is not easy.

We loved our time meeting the dogs, hearing about the history of the kennel, and chatting with the guides. Big thank you to Tanner who took care of us during our shuttle and Robert for our mushing! Just remember, it’s going to be colder than you think! My fingers were too cold to take my phone out, smh. I’m grateful they had some extra gear to lend out.
This was a great ride. The dogs are so friendly and so eager to work. The ride was fun, and out guide Dan helped to push and also worked hard when uphill. Dan also helped us to take nice photos and videos with the dogs. What a memorable ride.
The dogs are cute and nice. Those guides are professional to lead the dogs and we have a safe and wonderful dog sledding trip
Pure joy to be challenged to get into the elements, appreciate the athletic prowess of these beautiful canines. I'm 80 and still remember watching "Sargent Preston of the Yukon in the 50's". Great appreciation for all my guides.i am canine challenged, yet completely over joyed
This was an absolutely awesome experience! The place we were driven through was nice and we were really excited to meet and play with the dogs and puppies. Ash is awesome and you could tell he really loved the dogs and mushing. We had a really great time!
Awesome adventure! Ash was super friendly and very knowledgeable. The dogs are so cute and friendly. Definitely a must for a true Alaskan experience!
BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! You get to play with the puppies and sled dogs before the ride. The handler, Ash, clearly passionate about the dogs and the Alaska experience. We were so happy to have Tanner as our tour guide again, I would honestly request this guy every time if possible. If you’re trying to decide what experiences are worth it, this one is an absolutely CANNOT miss experience. There are lots of dog sledding experiences around, this is the absolute best. Request Tanner as your tour guide and have fun playing with the puppies and going on a ride with the one and only Ash!
Dogs were amazing! If you like or love dogs you have to do this one. The guide, Ash, was an awesome human being and clearly cared for the dogs well- this was definitely a bucket list experience. I’d highly recommend it for anyone coming to the area. Ash was an amazing dog sled guide and Tanner was a fantastic tour guide!
This is a must do activity in Fairbanks. Ash, Zac, and Toby were incredibly kind and informative during the whole process. The atmosphere was absolutely gorgeous, truly can’t be beat and we loved meeting and petting the dogs beforehand, cutest thing ever. We did the hour long ride, 1 sled fits 4 people, we did the hour long excursion and only paid $210 per person. Would definitely do this again!
We happened to be there at a time with too little snow, so the dogs could not pull us in a sled. They did their daily running, but we were in an adjoining jeep, keeping up with the dogs. We two were alone with the owner of the company. The ride was supposed to be an hour, but he gave us an extra half-hour, answering our questions. From it, we saw how happy the dogs were, pulling for long-distance racing. We learned about the types of working dogs in Alaska, about the sport of dog-sled-racing, and about the way a company of racing dogs works. Excellent information! At the end, we could play with the batch of new puppies!
Ash was an incredible dog musher—knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about his dogs. Josef, our tour guide, made the experience even better with his friendly attitude, great stories, and attention to detail. Together they created a fun, safe, and unforgettable adventure that we’ll be talking about for a long time.
Our guide Joseph (who picked us up) was excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable of the Fairbanks area. He was very easy to talk to which made the drive to/from pleasant and he prepared us well for what was coming up. Words cannot express the amazing experience we had with Ash who was our mushing guide. He was professional and friendly. The ride was beautiful/breathtaking… there aren’t enough positive words to describe it. We had 2 adults, a 13 year old and 9 year old and everyone had an amazing time. Our family made core memories on this experience, it is worth every penny. Even at -40 we wouldn’t have changed a thing. Amazing guides/amazing experience/ puppy snuggles and dog hugs. We couldn’t ask for more in this once in a lifetime experience. Thank you!!
Awesome experience! Ash is top notch and really made our trip. We had him on 2 different excursions and it was fantastic both times. When dog mushing dress warm!!! Especially gloves and warmers in your boots
Ash was knowledgeable and conveyed his love of Alaska to us. A must for those wanting a unique experience. Dogs seemed excited.
We had the most amazing time dog mushing on the backcountry trails in Fairbanks! Ash — truly the best musher — made the whole experience unforgettable. The Alaskan Huskies were incredible to watch, especially knowing they’re all Yukon Quest–trained. You can feel their power, excitement, and love for the trail the moment they take off! Paul added such a special touch to the experience too — he had us try this cool natural glacier water on the way back, and we even stopped to capture beautiful sunset photos across the road. An absolutely magical, authentic Alaskan adventure. Highly recommend!
On February 16, 2025 my family and I went out with Paul, what a fantastic delight of a guide!! Paul was destined to be a tour guide. He will entertain you to the core and fill you with knowledge you've never known. He is very friendly and so fun to ride with, his stories are great. The dogs though, they are the best, just gorgeous and so loving. We were able to pet and love up and every single one of them and I could have shed tears if it wasn't so cold, lol. Our kids just fell in love with the dogs and the sled ride on such a gorgeous blue sky sunny day with glistening snow all around you was marvelous. This is an experience you never want to miss! You really see how these dogs love and NEED to work and just how much they enjoy it. It melts you and gives you a thrill all at the same time!!
Loved the adventure. Enjoyed getting to spend time "visiting with the dogs" before the ride. Guide was great. Dogs were incredible. Snow-covered countryside amazing. I'd recommend 1st Alaska Tours and this particular trip in a heartbeat.
Paul was a fantastic tour guide. Entertaining, knowledgeable, passionate about Alaska. He made everything seem personal, not like a script repeated a million times like many guides I've had. Reciting the entire Robert W Service poem was truly impressive!! The dog sledding was fabulous, with great mushers. I learned so much and would do it again in an instant.
First off everyone was amazing including Ash, Torsten and Jo. We had an amazing night dog mushing experience with the northern lights so bright and beautiful. I would highly recommend
We had so much fun! Paul B. was an animated and creative tour guide, sharing all kinds of history and fun stories about Alaska and Fairbanks. The dog sledding was incredible. Our musher Jeremy answered all of my questions and we had plenty of time to go love on all of the pups.
The driver, PAUL, was doing a fantastic job for us. He gave us a detailed introductions about the history of the town Fairbanks.
Our tour guy/driver Paul was fantastic. He gave us a full history of the Alaska Gold Rush. A very safe driver under the Alaska weather and plays with my children. Very much appreciated his helpfulness and knowledge.
Paul was an amazing guide! He is deeply in love with this unique and magic land. He explained the significance of each piece we saw during our trip (we even stopped to drink pure water from the mountain spring). Thank you again for everything!
I signed up for the 1hr Dog Mushing tour and found it to be well worth the money! Joe picked me up, and was the friendliest guide - could tell you stories on end. It took us about 30mins from Fairbanks proper to get to the Mushing area. Thurston and Peggy led my tour, and after we introduced they let me spend 5ish mins with all the adorable doggies while they prepared my sled. So many cuties, and puppies too! Then Thurston took me for ~30 mins across the snowy terrain, snaking through trees with the 15 or so dogs leading the way! Bundle up, but this rustic form of thrilling travel was a great experience facilitated by all involved.
My husband and I did the Arctic Circle Aurora Viewing with Elijah and dog mushing with Paul. Elijah kept the conversation going for the long trip to the arctic circle and Paul was absolutely hilarious. I would recommend this company to anyone. My only complaint would be the vehicle got uncomfortable after 12 plus hours drive to the Arctic Circle. Both Elijah and Paul are amazing tour guides, you won’t be disappointed.
My wife and I did the dog mushing with Paul. He was absolutely hilarious and an amazing tour guide full of useful information about local restaurant and bars recommendations. He also brought cool items for us to see. I would recommend this company to anyone.
Ryan was the most amazing tour guide. He was knowledgeable and fun. I ❤️ the sledding experience and would do it again. It was exciting and I learned so much about sled dogs.
The dog mushing was great. The views were wonderful and it was nice to meet the dogs. Ryan was a great musher and seemed to care about the dogs.
Ryan was so awesome! he was kind with a a great attitude, and he was extremely knowledgeable throughout our tour. Thank you so much
The view was beautiful since it was such a clear sky this time around so we saw a lot of mountains. The people who were controlling the dogs were very respectful and responsible. They knew when to stop for the customer's and dogs' safety. Overall, it was an amazing experience to just meet new dogs, people, and views.
We were picked up on time in a big comfortable van. Our driver Brittany was a wealth of information related to Fairbanks and its history and how you live when it’s 40 below. We enjoyed her very much and her narration made the trip go fast. We had a brief tutorial about the dog-sledding and then went down to pet the dogs. HEAVEN. One of the sleds was broken so we had to much in two shifts but that was fine because we got more doggie time plus cookies, cocoa and coffee in the warm and comfortable yurt. Our musher Matthew was fun and informative, gave us plenty of time for pictures and did an introduction video of all the dogs. The owner Peggy was kind and friendly and we had a great day.
It was a great experience enjoyed every bit of it. Well worth the cost. The guides are friendly informative and the dogs are great. If your going to Alaska I would recommend going there you will have a blast
I really enjoyed being pulled along the trails through the woods, and would recommend wearing thick mitts, hand warmers and ski mask to stop yourself getting cold.
Lovely experience. We were picked up & dropped off at our hotel. Great communication. Our driver, Ryan, was professional and chatty, telling us lots of info about the area. There was a warm meet up yurt when we arrived, to allow up to add layers and regroup. The dogs were sweet and well behaved. Our musher, Matt, did a great job. Handled the dogs well, gave us some photo breaks. He even made us a little video introducing all the dogs. The track is a nice long track on the 1 hr trip, with nice views. My son lost a glove one the trail and he found it on a run later that day. One their other drivers dropped it off for us at the hotel. The sleds are not the narrow racing style sleds I have been on in other adventures. You sit up on benches more like a carriage, 4 to a sled. It was very nice for a family trip. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to a friend.
Very well-organized tour. The driver was punctual, very friendly, sociable, and knowledgeable. The duration of the tour was just right amount. The dogs were extremely cute, friendly and welcoming. But the best part of the tour was the breath-taking sceneries that my wife and I experienced during the ride. The musher was very nice and accommodating, took multiple pictures for us as well. Hot drinks we had afterwards were also very soothing. Very nice conversation with the manager as well. Overall, very satisfied and would highly recommend to anyone.
Everyone was very informative and nice. Our musher answered all our questions. Our driver Ryan gave us a lot of information on the ride up and back.
Ryan picked us up from our hotel and was kind, curtious, and knowledgeable! He was able to answer every question the group threw at him. Such a fun experience with the sitting on the sled and watching the dogs and mushers in action. I highly recommend this!
Ryan did an amazing job keeping us posted on things to expect and what we would be doing!! This trip was amazing!!!!!!!!!
