Captain Dennis and Justin were great! Saw several whales. Humpback whale breached several times and Dennis got us there quickly so we had an amazing view. Would HIGHLY recommend Catch of the Day! Both captains were very knowledgeable.

My wife and I had an amazing experience with Catch of the Day in Hoonah aboard the Stormbreaker with Captain Dennis and his nephew. With a small group of about 10 people, we got to consistently watch 3–4 whales surface, dive, and slap their tails, and then we were lucky enough to see them breach, which was absolutely incredible and a true core memory. The boat was comfortable, with an enclosed heated cabin that was perfect for the Alaska weather. Captain Dennis and his nephew were friendly and knowledgeable, and we couldn’t have asked for a better whale-watching experience. Highly recommend!

The captain took good care of us. We had a last minute need and they were all so accommodating. We saw so many whales!

Our whale-watching excursion was the highlight of our Alaskan trip. We cruised farther than usual to see 6 orcas. On the way back, we spotted a mother humpback whale & her calf. So pleased!

The boat was great and the captain was knowledgeable, attentive and knew how to spot the whales. Our naturalist was informative as well. Well worth the money bc of the extra attention and effort! A great tour!

What an amazing day, with the co-operation of the weather captains Dennis and Justin strategically maneuvered our boat into perfect position to see Orcas and Humpbacks. It was a magical day.

Great experience, give you lots of information about all the wildlife in the area and go to a lot of trouble to make sure you see some whales also saw a sea otter, had a wonderful day

AmaZING! The entire excursion was incredible. Justin was truly wonderful. He made sure everyone had a great time and we saw whales. And did we see whales! Lots of humpbacks and ORCAS! I’d give it 8 stars if I could.

Our guides, Justin and Dennis, were great and kept us entertained with their banter, but more importantly, they kept us next to a family of 3 or 4 humpbacks for almost the entire trip. Didn't get any full breaches but saw lots of dorsal fins and tails. Really fun experience.

Staff were very friendly and informative. They made sure we got to see both humpbacks and orcas. Very enjoyable trip!

This was a small boat tour with 15 people on board. The seated area of the boat is covered/enclosed and there is a small back deck which is open. We came in early September and were lucky enough to see groups of humpbacks and orcas bubble feeding. Also saw several otters swim by. The crew was super friendly and they had small bags of chips and some hard candies. We loved this tour!!

Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful and Captain Doug really made us laugh. We got to fulfill our dreams of seeing orcas in the wild!

I cannot adequately express how wonderful this tour was. Our two captains Justin and Dennis were knowledgeable, fun and informative. I was with a group of 14 people so much better than doing something through the cruise line where you would’ve been with over 50 people. We had a personalized experience, they provided a snacks, information and truly care about Alaska and its marine life which I adored. We saw orcas, and humpbacks, sea otters, and sea lions. When I go back to Hoonah and I will, I will be taking another Catch of the Day tour . Don’t miss this.

Captain Dennis was super entertaining and really wanted his guests to have an outstanding experience. We got the special treat of seeing Orcas.

We had an incredible whale-watching experience with a fantastic crew. They motored nearly 55 minutes out in search of humpback whales, and about an hour later we finally spotted the spray from a blowhole rising in the distance. As we began making our way toward the humpbacks, we unexpectedly came across a family of orcas, including a very young calf swimming close beside its mother. Just minutes later, the baby orca came within a few feet of the boat, rolling its body in the water while its mother stayed close by watching. It was an unforgettable experience. The captain clearly knew exactly where to position the boat to give us the best possible view while still allowing the animals to behave naturally. The crew was excellent, and this ended up being one of the highlights of our trip.

Great boat ride, Dennis and the crew were very friendly, welcoming, and made sure everyone was having a great time. They took us to the exact spots the whales where coming up and made sure we seeing everything and anything. They were full of knowledge and dad jokes . Lol!

Great trip! The captain found the whales and we had a bonus naturalist on board to give us information on what we were seeing.

They went the extra mile to get us Orca sightings! The Captain Dennis and his colleague provided good info and effectively navigated us to the right spots - Watching Bubble Netting was a unique experience! All positive

Dennis was a great guide. He communicated with others to locate the best places to e whales. He took us where whale had been seen. It was perfect. Then he took us over to where the Orcas have been sighted. The orcas swam right along the boat and gave us an awesome show. After seeing both types of whales he took us to where bears had been spotted, but unfortunately, the bears had moved on by the time we arrived.

Captain Dennis and Captain Justin were really great! They were both incredibly knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area and took us to amazing spots. We saw a few humpbacks, sea lions, sea otters, and an entire pod of orcas. The orcas (which were only in the area for a short period of time) were very playful with each other and came right up to our boat!

They took the extra time to tell us some history, knowledge about the sea life, and made us feel welcomed

THIS IS A MUST DO in Hoonah!!! Our captain was fabulous. We were so lucky to have even been able to see and capture a baby killer whale jumping out of the water. What an amazing day.

Incredible experience that everyone should have the opportunity to do! The humpback whales and groups of orcas that we saw and came so close to was something we will never forget! And the vessel was not overcrowded so everyone got to enjoy the encounter. Highly recommend!!!!

Our Catch of the Day experience was amazing! Our boat captains David and Justin were personable, as well as knowledgeable of the area. The guys educated us on identifying whales and were able to find pods of orcas and a humpback for us to view. The whales were right next to the boat, and we were able to capture some great pictures. We were also fortunate to see some brown bear on the shoreline during our time on the bay watching the whales. I highly recommend this excursion if you are visiting the Icy Straight Point-Hoonah area.

The entire experience was amazing. Would give Dennis and his crew a big recommendation. They were amazing at finding whales! Great sense of humor and just an all around fun tour.

This was a great trip. It’s a small boat so there isn’t a huge crowd. They now where to go to see whales and the captain has a great sense of humor. Highly recommend this tour.

This was an amazing experience on a very intimate boat with only 12 other people. Not a huge cruise ship tour. Also allows you to go into hoonah and see the local spots which I would recommend. Our guides were amazing and we saw orcas and so many whales. I would highly recommend picking this over one versus your large cruise ship whale watch

Great shore excursion. Locally owned mom and pop business. Excellent communications and pickup. The boat was safe, comfortable, and warm. There was plenty of outside deck to see whales and take photos. On this tour we saw multiple orca whales, humpback whales, sea otters, and sea lions. Highly recommended!

We saw lots of Orcas, some sea lions, and a few humpback whales. It was a gorgeous day on the water. The boat was nice and comfortable. I would highly recommend!

Excellent! Dennis and Justin were great captains! We saw so much wildlife in a very nice boat. There was a restroom in the boat if needed. Everything was very clean and professional. Crystal met us at the pick up spot and helped make sure everyone was ready for great day. We were a group of 10 and the boat held 16. I couldn’t have asked for a better excursion! This was a great trip! We saw everything. Orcas, humpback whales bubble feeding, brown bears on the shore, sea otters and sea lions. Caption Dennis and Justin were awesome and so knowledgeable about all things Alaska!!! I highly recommend this trip. I can’t say enough great things about the experience.

The Captains were amazing - and one was a naturalist. We saw more whales, otters and sea lions than I could have dreamed.

The ultimate experience of this cruise! I have been trying to see whales on multiple trips to Alaska and never have. This time we literally followed a pod of 4-6 whales for over three miles! Add in a bald eagle sighting, a deer on shore, and a sea plane landing on the water- could not have been better!!! The captains were knowledgeable, amusing- just plain the best! I can not recommend this tour enough! Forget about the rest- book this one!

Excellent time. It took a little over sn hour to get where the whales were snd it was so worth it. Upon arrival, we came upon about 15 humpback who were in a pod feeding. It was quite the sight! From a distance, we also saw a brown bear on the shoreline foraging around. We spent about an hour with the whales cruising along side them while they were feeding. We had to maintain a 300m distance for safety purposes. We had great weather and the ship's mate was very informative providing helpful information. Definitely worth it!

Good experience for all ages. You could be indoors for the full tour if desired. They had water and chips onboard. There was a very steep walk down to the dock through a covered ramp (there were railings to grab onto.) We got great views of whales and more. Only complaint was the directions to the pickup spot. They made a big deal that there was a walk and it was not the normal spot, but we still got it wrong and were racing to be there at the last minute. After experiencing it, they could do so much better with the directions. Just get where you think you need to be early and then start asking questions immediately.

Had an amazing family experience with Captains Dennis and Justin. They were very friendly and informative on the bay and the wild life! Spent time watching a pod bubble netting and then got to see otters and sea lions. Definitely worth getting up early for!

The trip waa very well organised and on time. The boat was well equipped and comfortable. After a briefing from the captain we made our way to where the eagles were last known (about 40 mins away) and saw a group of humpback surfacing, dicing and even breaching. We also saw a group of 3 orcas who got up close and personal around the boat. Would definitely recommend.

This by far was one of the best excursions I’ve been on. We saw so many orca’s and humpback whales. We had a baby and mommy orca swim right next to our boat. Captain Chris and Justin were the absolute best. I would definitely recommend this tour and will be booking again!

Smaller boat experience than what you’ll get from the cruise ship excursion, and better all around. Very calm waters and lots of wildlife! Great experience.

A great time on the Stormchaser with Dennis & Justin! We saw bald eagles, humpbacks, lots of orcas breaching and hunting, seals and black tail deer. The crew was helpful and knowledgeable on animal behavior and where to find them. The pick up location was easy to find after a short and scenic walk thru Icy strait point. A once in a lifetime experience!
