This is a nice experience IF you have the right expectations. Our guide was knowledgeable and nice and we did see northern lights, however, that was pretty much the only positive. The fish you catch are tiny! (Maybe 4-6 inches long in a pond stocked with them) when we started fishing and I saw the size of the hooks, I could tell we were fishing for fish smaller than sun fish. They do cook them for you, however it is heavily supplemented and primarily Costco salmon filets. You have your choice of watching northern lights or fishing from the cabin-you cannot do both at the same time because you need lights on for fishing and lights off for northern light watching. The cabins are tiny with 12 people plus a guide packed in. My expectations were to high which lead to a disappointing experience.
Great experience! And wonderful host. We enjoyed fishing, laughter, banter, and had some fun outside the cabin also!
We joined the Aurora Ice Fishing tour at Chena Lake and it was truly an unforgettable experience. We fished comfortably inside a warm little cabin, and at the end our guide cooked the fresh-caught fish for us — it wasn’t big, but it tasted delicious! When we stepped outside, we were lucky enough to see the northern lights as well. Our tour guide was a young guy who shared lots of interesting local stories and made the whole trip fun and engaging. Highly recommend this experience if you’re visiting Fairbanks!
It was a great experience! Our tour guide, Tyson, kept us entertained and made the experience so fun! The meal was delicious. Will definitely come back again.
I had a very good time ice fishing thanks to our guides. Aiden and Tyson were very patient with us when we struggled to get fish and were excellent cooks. Their cooking made the wait worth it
We had a great experience ice fishing with our guide Michael! The little wooden cabin was very cozy and we were able to see shooting stars outside. It was our first time fishing ever and we were able to catch dozens of fishes. The experience was made even more fun by our guide Michael’s warm and inviting personality and his fascinating stories. It was definitely a special memory for us and we loved hanging out with Michael!
Wow, what a fun trip. Highly recommend. We did the option of having a driver as I did not want to drive in snow and ice. Tyson was great! He picked us up on time and was great. He was telling us about local areas and points of interest. Tyson was also our fishing guide. Showed us the aurora when it was barely visible and then let us know to go out on the ice when the aurora was booming. We caught tons of fish! 30+ each. He cooked them up and we has a delicious dinner. This will be one all time favorite vacation memories.
Tyson at Alaska Fishing and Adventures: Our experience with Alaska Fishing and Adventures was absolutely incredible, thanks to our amazing guide, Tyson! From start to finish, he made sure our ice fishing adventure was both exciting and comfortable, providing top-notch gear, expert guidance, and plenty of great stories along the way. Tyson’s knowledge of the area was impressive, and he went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience. The highlight of the trip? Witnessing the breathtaking Aurora Borealis under the vast Alaskan sky—it was truly magical! If you’re looking for an authentic, well-organized, and unforgettable Alaskan adventure, look no further. Huge thanks to Tyson and the entire team—we’ll definitely be back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ice Fishing! What an experience! We caught fish, we ate fish, we saw the lights and we had a great guide. What more could you ask?
This experience was SO MUCH FUN! I really didn’t know what to expect with our first time ice fishing, but Tyson took such good care of us. While it was windchill of -16* outside, it was a toasty 70* inside of our fishing cabin. We caught fish, told stories, laughed & had a wonderful meal (prepared fresh by our fishing guide, Tyson). It was all FIRST CLASS!! I would recommend this tour to everyone!! Even those who may not be that into fishing. Tyson kept a lookout on the cold winter sky, and when the Aurora was presenting herself, we all rushed out for perfect photos!
I strongly recommend everyone visiting Fairbanks Alaska to book an aurora ice fishing tour. It was incredible. The cabins you fish in is stocked with everything you need to fish and stay warm. The tour guide Tyson cooks an amazing dinner for you while you fish and in between catch you can go out to take pictures of the aurora. The lake location is perfect for capturing the best color or the northern lights. It's an excellent experience and a lot of fun
I was rather disappointed with this tour, especially given the steep price. We were crammed into a small van like sardines, and the cabin on the ice was far too tight—12 people plus a guide in a space no larger than 8’ x 24’. The fishing setup felt cramped, with everyone shoulder to shoulder around 8” pre-drilled holes. While the guide was friendly and helpful, the culinary experience was underwhelming. For the cost, I’d recommend skipping this tour and opting for a daytime outdoor fishing experience instead.
This was the highlight of our trip to Fairbanks. Tyson was an amazing host and was super patient with the 11 people in our group. He set us up with our rods and demonstrated the best way to catch the fish. Within minutes our group started getting bites. We caught 10 in all and would have probably caught more if not for all the fireworks that were being set off. No complaints as that added to the amazing evening. Tyson grilled up our catch and we had a delicious meal. To top it all off, the Northern Lights were literally dancing. It ended up being the best display of the entire trip.
THIS WAS THE MOST AMAZING PART OF OUR TRIP! Tyson was TOP TIER! His knowledge, his swift baiting, his ability to help with the kiddos, and perfectly clean and cook our fish were just beyond what we expected. The cabin kept us pretty toasty even though it was close to 0/-10* F that night. Our group caught TONS of fish, and caught a great light show! 10/10 would recommend this tour!
Thank you Tyson for making this trip such a rememberable one. It was so much fun to go fishing in a way we have never done before, catch fish and then eat them. Your knowledge of the area and patience with us was so welcoming. I also want to thank you for helping me with my camera settings and taking some pictures for us. This was an incredible experience and one that we will remember forever, in fact we are looking to do this again next year because of the experience we had.
The Aurora Ice fishing was such a highlight of our trip! We got to see the lights and it was also our first time ice fishing. We loved it. Tyson was a great guide and super helpful. He made sure we had the best chance at catching fish and the aurora. He was great to talk to and cooked us a great meal from the fish we caught. I highly recommend this tour and company and would definitely book with them again if we get to come back.
Excellent location to view the Aurora. The indoor heated hut for ice fishing kept us warm and occupied in between the outdoor Aurora hunts. Tyson was a lovely guide - very knowledgeable, friendly and made the whole experience so relaxing and memorable.
The guide was so kind and told us many interesting stories. The fishing was very easy even for my 7 years old kid. Directly cook dinner was delicious. The frozen lake was beautiful and feel isolated from all modern things. Plus, we could see the aurora due to the snow and thick clouds, but it would be really great place to see aurora.
I highly recommend Alaska Fishing and Rafting Adventure if you are coming to Fairbanks. Prior to arrival we had different tours planned which unfortunately were canceled at the last minute. Our travel agent got us in contact with Kane and she was amazing and got us even better tours to include dogsledding with Goldstream Huskies and ice fishing with aurora viewing and dinner which did not disappoint!! 😀 I definitely want to give a huge shout out to Hunter, he was an amazing guide and so enjoyable and beyond friendly which made our trips even better. Thank you for making our trip beyond our expectations!!
We had an amazing time. Our guide, Trenton, cooked up a great fresh caught dinner and kept us entertained the entire night.
My guide was super good at helping us figure out the mechanics and everyone caught something to contribute to dinner and I'm very glad i did this, where I'm from ice fishing isn't something most people ever get to do. The views were amazing, he also stayed on top of the northern lights and alerted us when they came out so we could watch a breath taking show. Over all, this was the best excursion I booked in Alaska by far, ands this is coming from someone who finds fishing really boring, I only booked this for my son. The meal was great too, firstly because I was eating super unhealthy (fudge, pad thai, crepes and coffee were my diet for two weeks) and my poor body was grateful for a nutrient, but also it was just well cooked and seasoned.
Disappointed, Aurora only showed for 1 min and we missed it bc the guide was busy fixing our dinner at midnight. Dinner was good, but he did not remove many bones when filleting. Everyone had many remaining bones.
Greg was An amazing tour guide and cook. We caught 2 fish and the food was so yummy. We saw the most amazing aurora lights. Highly recommend.
Y’all! It was cold for these southern bones! But we were warmed by the nice wood fire stove in our hut on the frozen lake and enjoyed great company with our guides and the other guest! We chose the ice fishing and Aurora tour and were not disappointed! Our guides (Trenton and Hunter) were more than hospitable and even offered to show us another location effectively chasing Miss Aurora after our tour had ended! SUCH a great experience and really good and genuine hosts in the last frontier! PS Hunter was such a nice young man who had one of his first tours with us! He is going to great things with your company!
We saw the northern lights! The fishing was a fun experience and we had a great, fun group of folks! Tyson, our guide, was outstanding! Dinner was delicious! Definitely recommend!
Our guide picked us up at our resort and was very knowledgeable. He provided additional information regarding the aurora borealis. When we arrived at the heated hut, he had everything setup and ready to go. Pictures were taken by our guide whenever a fish was caught. Dinner included the fish we caught. The northern lights were spectacular. I would do this again.
We had the best time! Tyson picked us up at our hotel right on time. We immediately felt like we were with an old friend. The ride was fun and he had many interesting stories about Alaska and the great outdoors. Upon arriving he started a fire in the old wood burning stove and set us up to fish. We all caught fish, laughed and talked. He even cooked us a delicious meal with our fish we caught. It was delicious! I would definitely recommend this excursion really fun and enjoyable.
Our guide was awesome and a great cook. The company accommodated our transportation needs. This was a big deal as pick up and drop off is not offered when booking via Viator. However, it’s offered if booking directly with them. For us it was a big deal that they picked us up and dropped us off. We got to fish, eat, and watch a little bit of the Aurora
Trenton was amazing very knowledgeable about the area ! My husband and I had a great time ! The experience is worth every penny . Salmon was amazing !!!! Plan to come in the summer and do again !!! Highly recommend!!!
GREAT EXPERIENCE. We were greeted by GREG our host who had our fishing hut warm and toasty despite the unusually colder than average 38 degree below zero outdoor temperature. We were giving complete and easy to understand instructions. Once we were fishing, Greg gave us a very informative talk and chalkboard presentation on how the Aurora Borealis happens. Later we saw the lights when and where he predicted. He prepared us a wonderful supper. Fried our fish, made a delicious potato dish, both of which were steaming hot and a green salad with lots of real greens, topped with Walnuts and Cranberries is we wanted them. VERY COMPLETE TOUR. We will return.
I thoroughly enjoyed our Aurora fishing trip with guide Tyson. He expertly cared for our group of 13, and the mesmerizing display of the northern lights in the middle of the night made it a truly worthwhile experience. Tyson's guidance and the magical atmosphere created lasting memories. Highly recommend!
We had an amazing time ice fishing! Our guide Trenton was friendly, informative and fun! Everyone caught at least 1 fish (most caught more) and Trenton cooked them up right in the cabin along with potatoes and salad. The cabin was warm and cozy and it was very easy to pop right outside to see the Aurora! I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area!
great! save my time and money compared with : daytime fishing ($140)+ night aurora activity($120). Welcome Guide, lovely red hat!
Greg was very knowledgeable about the Aurora and shared his experience in an informative manner. He explained the ins and outs of ice fishing and helped us all enjoy catching our dinner. Greg prepared the dinner and we had our fill of delicious fish. He also maintained a comfortable temperature inside the fishing hut.
Wonderful 2 in 1 experience. Spent 9pm to 2am with wonderful and knowledgeable guide Spencer and 3 other guest on Chena Lake. The fishing was slow but still enjoyable. While neither myself or my wife caught a fish (only 2 were) it was exciting when one in our group did catch her first fish ever. And while the forecast for northern lights was not high, we were pleasantly able to see a wonderful display after midnight. Overall we were very happy with our guide Spencer, his knowledge and our experience
Spencer was the best! Great fishing, great company, super knowledgeable and stayed past the tour end to help us get Aurora pics. Highly recommend.
Tyson is a great tour for us. He is very patient and I can see that he really wants to make sure we enjoy our time. We did not catch a fish as we need to leave early but we were so lucky to see the northern light and Tyson help us take a great picture! Thank you! Best, Lingling
The finish experience is amazing. Our guide Tyson was not only friendly but also shared a lot of knowledge on how to drill holes and measure the safety based on the thickness of the ice. It’s very fun.
I would definitely recommend Tyson to the fishing and aurora viewing experience. He was a super humorous guide that has good fishing and cooking skills. I would probably rate him the Gordon Ramsey of the fishing tour. He taught us how to drill fishing holes using a unique machine. Tyson also helped us catch a total amount of almost 20 fishes! There’s 1 trout and the rest are salmons! The salmons were really delicious and fresh. Even though I had no fishing experience, I still caught 4 fishes with his help. After fishing, Tyson led us out to view the aurora, the aurora were great that night and was the most spectacular show I’ve seen in my whole life. He was also a really good camera man and helped us take a bunch of photos
The whole experience was nice. Greg was very patient and passionate, and he shared a lot of information about ice fishing and the aurora. The fish and potatoes tasted really good. The only unfortunate part is we couldn’t see the aurora due to the clouds.
Our guide was Greg and he was awesome. Punctual, polite, and patient with us (as we never done ice fishing before). He was very informative, and personal with the entire group. I definitely recommend this activity and him as a guide!
My husband and I had so much fun on this night fishing trip. When we arrived, Greg opened a warm, toasty cabin and was very welcoming. Once the other group got there, he made us tea, coffee, and hot chocolate and set us up. He provided us with a helpful demo and was very encouraging. Then, he started helping us get ready to fish. Greg hadn’t even finished setting us up when people starting catching fish! I think we caught around 10 fish in the cabin within 30 minutes. We fished for a few hours and caught a bunch of fish. After that, Greg cooked us some delicious dinner—potatoes, salad, and of course, our fresh fish. The dinner was AMAZING and so delicious. I felt full and satisfied but not overly stuffed, and he kindly accommodated a dietary restriction I have. After we ate, Greg was kind enough to educate our groups on how the aurora borealis worked—he even had a little board to demonstrate some of the key concepts. Even though it was detailed, it was accessible enough for anyone to understand, which was really cool. Throughout the rest of the night, we went outside to check for the aurora borealis (there was a small one because it was cloudy and Greg pointed out exactly where it was and had a great estimate for when it would come out!) and fished. Greg told us that it would be catch and release only, which I appreciated because we obviously don’t want to overfish the lake. Greg gave us a lot of more information about fishing and fishing in that specific lake. He even indulged us by sharing more about the history of Fairbanks. I noticed he even gave a member of the other party tips for aurora photography and how to care for his camera given the cold. He was kind enough to even offer his jacket to help regulate the temp of the camera. Greg was an incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming guide. I truly feel he went above and beyond to make our experience positive. Obviously, fishing is some luck and some skill, but Greg set everyone up really well to catch fish. I caught 8 fish and my husband caught 3 fish! All salmon, which Greg helped teach us how to identify them. I highly suggest this tour and experience!
The host was welcoming and supportive. The cabin was kept warm as we fished for salmon. Food was our highlight. It was too cloudy to see any northern lights.
My husband and I did the “Aurora Ice” fishing & dinner tour on our honeymoon to Alaska with Tyson and it was amazing!! We booked last minute and it ended up just being us and Tyson ice fishing and we had a blast!! Tyson was a fantastic tour guide and taught us so many new things about fishing (ice/other kinds), hunting, and Alaska. We were able to catch plenty of fish and had a delicious dinner. The tour was 5 hours but with the excitement of catching salmon and rainbow trout, amazing conversations, and DELICIOUS food, it flew by. We absolutely will be booking another tour with AK River Tours when we head back to Alaska in the summer and that is 100% due to our fantastic guide and what an amazing experience we had! If you’re thinking about booking with AK River Tours, DO IT!
