Northern Lights Classic Minibus Tour From Akureyri

Our guide was the best! He took photos of us, and while all the other tour companies had left, we stayed until the very end because he knew the Northern Lights would appear again. And they did! An absolutely fantastic experience!

This was an excellent tour. It took us 30 minutes to get to the viewing point of Horgarsveit just north of Akureyri. Daniel was our guide and Norbert took some amazing pictures of us on request with the lights in the background. We were there for two hours and it was the most memorable event you could wish for. Then it didn’t take long to get back to the hotel. Thank you both Daniel and Norbert.

We couldn't go the first night we were scheduled to because of the weather--they let us know well in advance, though. When we went the second night, we were picked up at our hotel and driven outside the city to a darker spot. The cloud cover and full moon made it difficult to see any colors that were there, but the biggest thing taking away from the experience was the very low temperature (especially with the wind chill), which of course isn't the tour operator's fault. The guide did the best he could to make the experience fun, but it just wasn't happening that night for us.

The Northern Lights tour was great The night of the tour we booked was poor visibility due to cloud cover, our driver searched and consulted to find an opening in the cloud and although he found a small opening there wasnt much to see. We were offered a second tour on the next night free of charge and nature put on a spectacular show with loads of photo opportunities. I can't praise our guide Norbert enough for his diligence and amiability. Highly recommended.

The tour was great, loved the stories about the Northern lights and Arman was fantastic in both his knowledge and his enthusiasm for the lights, we had seen some OK northern lights but Arman wanted to do one last stop and the lights turned on the style, thank you for an amazing experience.

Absolutely amazing experience with Arman, he picked us up from our hotel and drove for about 10mins before pulling over as he had spotted the northern lights! Great atmosphere, we loved hearing all about Icelandic culture and we got extremely lucky with an incredible northern lights display. I’d recommend this company to anyone!

Our driver took us a bit further out than normal and we saw an amazing display of the northern lights! Visible even without the camera!!

We had an awesome time! We had cloud coverage on the night we were booked on but our tour guide drove around looking for a good opening in the sky to see the northern lights. You have to be patient, and wear warm clothing as it was freezing! But we really enjoyed it!

Very knowledgeable guides with interesting anecdotes alongside general information of the area. We didn’t see anything the first night and they allowed us a free re-try the next day. Would definitely recommend, just make sure to wrap up warm.

This guide was really good and knows how to find a good spot as well as what he’s looking for. It matters. It wasn’t a spectacular night, that’s outside his control, but it was very active (also outside his control). He knew a good spot to go to and how to find a good spot. Cold, cold weather. Brrr

Our guide visited a few places so that we could experience the Northern Lights. Through his expertise we managed to see them in their full glory and not through a camera lens. Brilliant evening.

Great evening trip, picked up from our apartment and taken out of town. Plenty of information provided from the guide, very knowledgable, Got to see the lights, a very good night, spent a fair amount of time viewing them, guide was happy to stay as long as everybody wanted, and took plenty of photos, also helped us with the settings on our phones, so we could get the best shots! Defintely recoomend this tour, as must do in Akureyri.

Highly Recommended. Our guide Arman picked me up from my accommodation in Akureyri. He picked up a few other people and then we headed off on a Northern Lights hunt and he really knows his stuff. A lovely man; knowledgeable and really funny. Our group visited 2 sites and we saw the lights at both. Back in town before midnight I think.

Our Northern Lights tour with Armann was absolutely fantastic! He is extremely knowledgeable and hilarious, keeping us highly entertained while we waited for the lights to appear. Although there wasn’t much activity the first night (confirmed by others who had tried to see them), he generously gave us the opportunity to go again the following evening. We are so glad we did because the experience was truly unforgettable! Armann found the perfect spot for viewing and even helped everyone adjust their phone settings to capture the best shots. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or a more incredible night! We also highly recommend the Private Lake Mývatn Day Tour & Goðafoss Waterfall with the same company. Amazing trip to the Forest Lagoon and seeing the aurora. Siggi was a great guide! He knew exactly where to go and when to be there. It was incredible!

We were so lucky to have traveled with Imagine Iceland. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the conditions that were required to view the lights and could spot them even before they appeared to the rest of us lowly mortals. The lights weren't as vibrant as normal, so he even offered us a free return trip for the next night. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and will take the same tour the next time we are in Akureyri.

Armann was a fantastic guide! Upbeat and hilarious the entire time. I had a great group of people with me on the tour. It was a rather cold night, but a spectacular night for the northern lights. Armann even pointed out the constellations, and shared stories. Armann took photos, and also helped the group with their cameras/ phones. I highly recommend this tour!

Our guide took us to a nearby rural area and nature gave us an amazing experience. Although the predictors said it might be a good night, nature gave us a 10 star show. With our guide's tips we got pictures of every form of aurora. As we were driving back into town we saw the sky light up, he found another dark area and we stopped to see a corona . A great, but cold, 2 hours.

Set off into the cold dark night with Arman, sorry if spelt wrong. Straight away you got the feeling was going to be a good night. Funny guy, great personality. Informative and interesting. Drove us out of town to a dark cold spot. How he finds the rds in all the snow is amazing in itself. Packed up to see lights, which just got better and better as the time passed. Was well worth the staying out late in the freezing night. Made my birthday a memorable one as the lights put on a show even visible with the naked eye. Really do recommend this company and would defo use them again in future. He was right up our street with his level of sarcasm. Loved it. Wow amazing

We did not see any Northern lights, and there was no efford to show us in other towns that we did say we were going to be.

A great trip just a few minutes away from hour hotel to see the Northern light. The guide is very experienced, very attentive and ensured that we had a great experience. The best thing is that the office was closed, however, the company changed the plan as the forecast for Northern light was good. Thank you for your flexibility!

The guide rocked up in the largest 4x4 mini bus ever. The forecast was heavy cloud but our guide found a clear patch of sky and we saw some amazing Northern Lights. This tour is almost 100% guaranteed to find them. If they are there they will find them.

We did the northern lights tour in Akureyri and the experience was incredible, we saw many and the guide also helped us with the configuration of the phones to take better photos apart from the ones he took of us. Super recommended!

I’ve been on a lot of northern lights tours and this has been my favorite one! Jon was our guide and he was fantastic. He’s born and raised in this area so he told us a lot about northern Iceland and his process for finding the northern lights. We were lucky and saw the lights immediately but it was cloudy so we had to move around to a few places. I brought my own mirrorless camera and he helped me with the settings to get amazing pictures and he helped the other tourists in the group get great iPhone pictures as well. We stayed out for hours until the lights faded. I booked this tour from a different company so I didn’t get to see the other tours they offered but I wish I knew about them! Highly recommend this company!

Pick up was quick and easy your guide called me to make sure we didn’t miss the pick up. Very knowledgeable tour guide with a rich life story. Great intuition when it comes to chasing the northern lights and fantastic food recommendation! Will be recommending to friend and family.

Both days when we should go were cloudy so we were offered compensation ie to get the money back, which we accepted on the second day. It was a shame that we didn't get to see Norden light. We were unlucky. I rate the tour with five because of the honesty of the leader. He might as well drive us around just to take our payment. Danica

We were somewhat disappointed, as we were driven around for 3 hours, while there was clearly no hope of seeing Northern lights within the first hour.

Even cloudy atmosphere,& even you know possiblity of northern light nothing, you should not take payment from client. Our payment just wasted

It was forecasted to be clear but it turned out to be very cloudy. The tour guide tried for 2 and 1/2 hours to find a clear spot, but he couldn't find any. So we didn't see anything. And the next few nights are predicted to be overcast, so we can't even do a retry. Very disappointed. Also, this was our third try with Viator to see the Northern Lights and because of bad weather the first two were canceled and refunded. We will not book another Northern Lights tour. Instead, we'll just try going out on our own when the skies are clear. Don't want to throw away more money. We hope Viator will refund this trip for everybody that was on the tour.

Armann our guide during this trip was awesome! He is a real expert in getting the best pictures of the Northern Light. The knowledge that he shared with us was really interesting and it was fascinating listening to him. He made a fantastic picture with his camera which captured the Nothern Light better than our cameras and sent us the pictures afterwards as a memory of a fabulous trip! Highly recommendable!

We booked a Northern Lights tour with the geo thermal spa through Imagine Iceland Travel. We were picked up from the apartments by Armann who was a very attentive and professional guide. My husband and I were very fortunate as we were the only clients for the trip so we had the luxury of travelling in Armann’s new vehicle. The geo thermal spa was excellent with a view over the sea. During the tour we stopped several times to monitor the lights and we had the pleasure of seeing the beautiful display in remote dark area. Local knowledge is a wonderful thing! We would recommend this trip with Imagine Iceland Travel.

What a great adventure! No joy the first night, but the second night was free and it was not a let down. Beautiful green lights with the added bonus of light columns. I will be back for another trip.

What an amazing experience! On our first excursion, the day before, the Northern Lights were not visible so our lovely guide, Arman, (apologies for any incorrect spelling!) offered us the chance to go out again the following evening. This time we were lucky and were able to see a beautiful display - a magical experience. We would like to thank Arman for such a great time - he was enertaining and knowledgeable and kept us laughing all evening! Thanks too to his co - driver who was also lovely and very helpful. Would definitely recommend this company to anyone - thank you for a wonderful once in a lifetime experience!

The guide was a rock star. Incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining, the tour would've been fun even without getting to see the northern lights due to his stories and facts. So it follows that getting the light show that we did made the trip an extra special time. We used the techniques, the tips and especially the camera settings shown on the tour for the rest of our trip. We're so glad we did this tour at the beginning of our vacation since it really did enrich the rest of the time we spent in Iceland.

This turned out to be a successful trip out of Akureyri,Iceland, to see the Northern Lights. Our Guide Norberto was very knowledgeable about where and how to spot the Northern Lights. He spotted them with his infinity lens camera much before we could see it with our eyes. Overall it was worth the trip. Thanks to Norberto and Imagine Iceland Travel.

This was the worst part of our trip, not only because there was no sighting, but due to the lack of organisation and consideration. The pick up van was 45 min late and we were waiting at -4 C. Later I realised the driver was not familiar with the routes. We arrived in a parking lot where every 5 min there was a bypassing car. The driver, after blabbering some nonsense about Iceland, opened the door so that “we could see the lights”. The Boss came few minutes later, and while we are standing in the cold he is explaining about the phenomenon but he “did not want to go too technical on you guys.” We we’re getting bitter cold and I was hoping for the hot chocolate to get warm, which never came, who knows, because of COVID or something else. There must be tighter regulations on who can offer these activities. Because someone can drive a van, they are not a tour guide.

I had expected this tour to be cancelled due to the weather. The tour operator said it was a go. The viewing conditions presented by the tour were not appropriate for viewing the aurora borealis. The night sky was not dark enough. We were too close to the city lights. You need total darkness to be able to view the aurora borealis in the best of conditions. I felt ripped off by the tour operator. If the tour had been titled “see Akureyri at night and hear stories from a local”, if would have been more accurate.
