This was such an interesting experience, so many different things done in one day. Our guide was really friendly and knowledgeable, we came away having learned so much more about life in Iceland as well as lots about the places visited.
Our guide Graham was superb! He was very knowledgeable about a huge variety of topics and made the whole experience very special. I found Dimmuborgir and Hverarönd to be particularly beautiful. I absolutely recommend this tour!
I skipped the bath hour to go to a small cave and I regretted big time because the the baths were amazing.
The bus driver is the same person that is the “tour guide” for this tour. The tour is advertised on Viator as 8 hours but the driver said it never goes over 6. Each stop was rushed. We weren’t advised where we were going or what the stop was just told when to be back on the bus. The only stop the “tour guide” participated in us in was the lava stop. And the couple of people that chose to go in the Myvatn natural baths were not able to see the caves as that is what the rest of the bus did when they did the baths. The tour description said nothing about that. The bus driver / tour guide didn’t provide much information about what we were seeing except when specifically asked a question. And before the tour the man at the booth foe this company got in a name calling argument with the vendor next to him. Not professional and not a good way to start the tour. This company needs to make a number of improvements.
Excellent day out. Very informative and an enjoyable day packed with knowledge and funny anecdotes. A good tour guide makes all the difference and Gisli was brilliant!
The tour is a good one for those arriving at the port of Akureyri . The pickup was seamless. Our visit to Lake Myvatn , where there are midges, gave us an opportunity to see the Earth Lagoon and a lunch break at the cafeteria there. We had the very delicious smoked trout on lava bread. The lava fields (sulfur) were amazing as was the landscape of the Dark Forest. It was also interesting to see the rift that divides Eurasia and North America. Our guide and driver were very good.
We had a great time. Our tour guide, Graham was very informative. Unfortunately, the bus he was driving only had one temperature, Hot, so it was a little uncomfortable on the bus. I would highly recommend this tour.
Great tour of multiple sites in the area. Lots of variety—lava fields, steam vents, lake views, and amazing Godafoss. Quite a lot of walking but guide allows plenty of time. Good commentary along the way. Terrific scenery on our lucky sunny day!
What an absolute fantastic tour in a comfortable van. Bigi was great at telling us relevant facts, interesting stories and yet not feeling like he had to entertain us every minute of the drive. We had adequate time at each site to wander if we wished or to hang out at an overlook or gift shop. We stopped at a market so we could buy snacks and sandwiches without fighting the crowds at the main tourist sites. We even got to see how the locals bake their bread with heat from the thermal features. We had extra time at the end for a drive through old town, past the botanical gardens and other sites. All of this was while making sure to return the group to our cruise ship at the right time. We highly recommend this tour.
We had a change of tour the day before, to a slightly later one, which turned out good as our ship was late to dock. The guide Daniel was really good. Very funny without being even in the slightest controversial. Loads of information, good delivery. I did think we would be able to bathe, but unsure if that was only the earlier tour, as there was no mention of this and frankly no time to do it anyway. We both really enjoyed the tour
I highly recommend this tour. Weather prevented us from having more than a single day in Akureyri, and this day-tour enabled us to see most everything we wanted in a day that was full but not rushed. Our guide, Aaron, was wonderful and provided a depth of information on Iceland's nature, history, and contemporary politics. In addition to seeing all of the sights, with excellent descriptions, we also received an education on Icelandic culture, and especially on how it is expressed in the north. The guide was flexible to our needs, and we had adequate time to explore on our own at most of the sites we visited. We could not have asked for more from this trip, we loved each location, but really it was the guide, with his detailed descriptions and discussion of northern Iceland, who made it so wonderful and special. This is an exceptional tour, whether you have only a single day in Akureyri or if you want an overview of the places in the region for further exploration. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. It was a great way to end our trip to Iceland.
Great trip. Well worth it! Driver/guide Graham, friendly and knowledgable. Stand out for us were the mud pools at Hverir. Fab day!
We had such an amazing tour from start to finish. We had an amazing tour guide Norbert, his knowledge was great & lots of useful information and humour thrown in as well... We thoroughly enjoyed our tour so many fabulous sites & views on our tour. We are so glad we booked with Imagine Iceland Travel they were so helpful for help & advice & support. Thank you 😊
This experience was jam packed with amazing sights and endless wonders of the world to see.. Our driver/tour guide (Ziggy) went above and beyond.. He was very knowledgable, kind and made everybody feel very comfortable, relaxed and made sure we were all happy.. The best tour I have been on in all my 50 years travelling!.. Thank you so much to Ziggy for making the experience so unique and special xx
Our tour guide really looked after us all and kept us safe! The most amazing Icelandic scenery to experience which we would never have reached without the expert driving skills of our tour guide in very snowy and windy weather. He made us feel very safe and very much looked after during our tour! I would make sure to wear walking shoes or walking boots with a good grip and to make sure to wear warm clothes if needed with the changing Icelandic weather.
Imagine specialized is small group tours. We were lucky enough on the two tours we took (northern lights and Godafoss waterfall) to have Armann as our tour guide, his knowledge of his country was amazing as were his stories of trolls, elves and Icelandic folklore . The scenery was amazing, craters, caves, snow covered mountains, frozen waterfalls and lakes. With regards to the Northern lights tour, it wasn't particularly good visibility the night we went but Armann has a group of people around the area that he calls on to assess visibility in their area and he is will willing drive to make your night memorable
Such a memorable day, our tour guide, Ammar, was very knowledgable and friendly....would highly recommend
Such a magical & surreal experience. Every stop on this trip is a wow moment. Must do if in the area
Tour guide Armand was very knowledgeable, we stopped at lots of spots to take some great photos and Armand knew the area very well as he had grown up there and was full of knowledge.
Busy day experienced guide with excellent knowledge of all sites visited given plenty of time at them
This tour was part of a package to Akureyri from the UK, and it was a highlight. There were around 15 of us on the minibus and the trip lasted around 6-7 hours. Our guide Norbert was a funny and friendly guy who told us lots of fascinating facts throughout the day, and we felt safe with him driving around the icy mountain roads - thanks for a great day Norbert! We went to the Goðafoss waterfall for sunrise, the Skútustaðagígar pseudo-craters, Dimmuborgir, Námaskarð geothermal fields, Grjótagjá cave, and even stopped off at the side of the road to feed some Icelandic horses. We were back with plenty of time to eat, drink and rest ahead of the Northern Lights tour, also given by Norbert. The only real downside was that the Mývatn baths were closed until spring 2026 for refurbishment, which wasn't the case when we booked, but that was through no fault of Imagine Iceland, and all of the other activities made up for it. We also had tickets to the Lagoon Spa which helped scratch the geothermal spa itch, though the Akureyri swimming pool would also have been good!
Our guide was really knowledgeable on all aspects of Iceland and its culture and I personally learned so much about the Island. Unable to do thermal bathing due to closure of the facility but this allowed more time on the other attractions.
This tour takes you to interesting geological sites with a tour guide that is a full of knowledge. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan you will see some familiar spots. Gorgeous landscapes and scenery!
Absolutely amazing experience! Our guide was so friendly and really wanted to make sure we all had the experience we wanted! The tour itself was fantastic, an absolute must if you're travelling to Akureyri, an easy and hassle-free way to travel out of the city and see some of the unbelievable surrounding landscapes of the countryside!
We did a few excursions with Imagine Iceland Travel and had a really great experience. For both tours we were picked up from Hotel Akureyri, which made everything easy. The Northern Lights trip was a success, we saw the lights, and the guide was happy to go past the planned finish time because it took a while for the clouds to clear. It felt like they genuinely wanted us to get the experience, not just stick to a strict schedule. Our Lake Mývatn day tour with Ármann was the highlight. Because the light levels were low in the morning, he rearranged the order of the stops to make the most of the day, and even with the changes, we never felt rushed. We still saw loads, and Ármann was friendly, personable, and really knowledgeable throughout. Honestly can’t recommend them enough.
This is an amazing tour! Absolutely stunning scenery. Our guide, Arman, has a deep knowledge and clear love for Iceland. We have done several tours from Akureyri using this company and they have all been great. We would recommend booking with them.
A Wonderful day, lots of driving but saw so many interesting sites and learnt a lot about Northern Iceland and its geo thermal environment
Great day seeing the Godafoss Waterfall and volcanic countryside. Our guide did a great job with arranging our itinerary to avoid the large cruise ship crowds. He was also good to handle adjustments so that all participants were able to do what they wanted to see and do.
An excellent day out with a nice small group of people and brilliant driver and tour guide Daniel! We had done 3 day tours already from Reykjavik and were wondering if we were going to get to see anything different on this one from Akureyri, and we did. Quite a few different places than earlier tours and a lot of information about the life in Iceland. Our guide made us feel welcome and kept the light and happy vibe the whole day while driving safely and smoothly around the places. Weather too was on our side! So very happy with the experience and recommend this tour to everyone!
The tour was good and the operator was able to alter the tour somewhat to match the wishes of the group. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny.
We had an amazing day trip. Our guide, Birkir, was fantastic. He was really knowledgeable and entertaining. We got more out of the day than if we’d gone without him!
Excellent small bus tour of northeastern Iceland! Jonas, our driver and tour guide, was knowledgeable and friendly. He kept our group on schedule and shared his extensive knowledge of life in Iceland. A+!
Had a fantastic tour with our guide Arman. We were made to feel safe and comfortable thoughout the trip. Arman was extremely knowledgeable and personable. He brought the whole trip to life. The itinerary was perfectly paced and we left knowing so much more at the end of the tour than we knew at the start. We would highly recommend the tour to ensure that you get the best of the area.
Well, our tour was cancelled due to not enough people signing up. I think it was that way for most tour companies that day. But our guide tried as hard as he could to book us on another company's tour, which I thought was going above and beyond. We did business with these people two other times and would highly recommend them to anyone who asks.
Great trip absolutely loved it from start to finish , our driver on the trip was great too very experienced driving in the snow and getting us to our destinations
First of all Norbert was a great guide, provided us with microspikes so we could walk on icy patches and in general was very knowledgeable and funny. The trip was totally worth it as we visited amazing locations in complete safety.
An excellent tour, very interesting and lots of highlights including the mud pools, steam vents and seeing the Godafoss waterfall at dusk with very few people around. The Myvatn natural pool experience rounded off a great day. Norbert and Armann were super hosts and know Northern Iceland inside out, so their tours are highly recommended.
Fantastic day trip, amazing way to view some of this beautiful country. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Absolutely spectacular views, will never be forgotten.
Would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Akureyri. Tour guide was brilliant - his knowledge and sense of humour really made the trip. Stunning places on the tour from Godafoss waterfall to all the volcanic stops - lava tubes, tectonic plates, etc. Iceland is a really beautiful country and you get to see so much of this on the tour.
We had such a fabulous day tour with Daniel, he was so knowledgeable, funny and full of great facts not only about the sights on our tour but about Icelandic life. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough. We had such an enjoyable day in a group of 12 lovely people. Daniel was such a great host and made sure we were all safe and looked after us so well in very snowy conditions
We had such a great time on this tour. Daniel was such a fabulous guide and taught us so much about life in Iceland! A very nice man who was so entertaining and informative. I cannot recommend this enough and it made our holiday. Thank you Daniel for the best day
My girlfriend and I had the most incredible experience on this tour – it truly exceeded all expectations. Despite it being just the two of us, the tour went ahead without hesitation, something many other companies wouldn’t do. Our guide, Arman (apologies if I’ve misspelled the name), was phenomenal. He was not only extremely friendly and accommodating but also genuinely passionate about ensuring we had the best time possible. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and attention to detail were unmatched. He went out of his way to take us to multiple stunning spots, many of which felt like hidden gems. It was clear he genuinely cared about making the experience unforgettable for us. Having travelled to over 50 countries and taken countless tours, I can confidently say this was the absolute best I’ve ever experienced. It wasn’t just a tour – it was a personalised adventure that became the highlight of our entire trip. If you’re in Akureyri, don’t even think twice – book this tour! You’ll be treated to world-class service, breathtaking locations, and memories that will last a lifetime. An unforgettable experience!
Seeing all the sights even at minus13 degC. Lots of stories from Norbert. Good trip and I’d recommend to everyone.
We started our trip before sunrise (this isn’t too early in Akureyri this time of year) and arrived at the first spot just as the sun came up. We proceeded to stop at multiple destinations many our guide knew were still mostly untouched and we were the only ones there! Along the way in our comfortable and clean vehicle- our guide Armand was INCREDIBLE. He is local to Akureyri and has expansive knowledge ranging from the geology of the ground you’re walking on, to amazing folklore stories. The journey between stops was breathtaking in itself and the day will fly by as you will be absorbed in the landscapes you’re driving through. The trip can be as informative or as fun as you want to make it but if you’re thinking of doing any of the stops on this tour then BOOK THIS TRIP!!!
Visiting the Lake Myvatn and Godafoss waterfall…It was excellent!!! Our guide Norbert was incredible!!!
Had a great day out today with our guide Norbert. He was very knowledgeable and made sure that we had all of the information we needed about where we were visiting as well as lots of information about Iceland. Went to lots of sites of interest and thoroughly enjoyed the day
We had booked a small group tour but as we were the only booking we were delighted to spend the day with our own personal guide Armann in his luxury Range Rover. As a geologist he was so knowledgeable and informative, giving us a truly remarkable day. What an amazing experience- well done Imagine Iceland!
Great Tour our guide was really nice and knowlagable. We were in luck we almost had a private Tour also the views are incredible. If you have the time and money to do it, do it you will not regret it.
Amazing day tour. Loved the waterfalls, lake Myvatn & relaxing bathing. Excellent, friendly and informative tour guide. We loved it!
