A real highlight of our short break to Iceland - our guide was a local with a vast amount of knowledge and entertaining stories, and we had the right amount of time at each stop to appreciate the spectacular scenery in this part of Iceland.

What an adventure! Graham was our driver and guide for the day. He was very informative at all the stops we had and made sure we adequate time at each. He was well prepared for the weather and provided us crampons for the hikes to make walking a bit easier since we went in the beginning of winter. He also made on the fly adjustments to the order of our itinerary to make sure we got to see everything while avoiding potential closures due to incoming weather. A lot of walking and hiking was involved to get to a few of the stops which always provided great scenery. One stop we could either go to the hot spring or have lunch. We chose the hot spring and it was such a great choice with being out in the cold a good part of the day.
Fantastic tour. It’s a long day, but definitely worth it if you want to see the key places in the area in one tour. Lake Myvatn was a bit of a let down but that was probably because of the flies and also because the waterfalls and the geothermal fumaroles were so amazing. Big shout out to Graham the tour guide!! His knowledge of the area and Iceland in general is outstanding. It takes great skill to talk for 8 hours while keeping everyone interested. Graham has that skill. He is a credit to your Business and made the whole day so much more enjoyable. He even supplied us all with nets for the areas known to have flies. All in all this was an excellent tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Akureyri. 5 stars!! Thank You!
We had the most wonderful day on this visit. It was snowing in Akureyri, which made the tour an ideal way to cover a lot of ground without the stress or risk of driving in wintery conditions. Pick-up and drop-off were both punctual, which we really appreciated. Our highlight was a dip in the thermal waters, which was not crowded on the day we visited. The landscape throughout was simply breathtaking, moving between dramatic waterfalls and ancient lava fields. Norbert was an excellent guide - we felt very safe with him and he was knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the area. We would absolutely book again with Imagine Iceland Travel. Highly recommended!
Our guide Nordbert was amazing. He cared for everyone in the group and was very cautious about the weather conditions all the time. He even provided the group with spikes for the slippery terrains around Goddafoss and Dettifoss. He also told us so many curious facts about Iceland. Not the whole group wanted to visit the thermal baths, so he immediately found another thing for us to do. I would recommend this experience to anyone!
Our guide was amazing. This was a small group and much better than the massive tour buses. He was a local, certified guide. It was a perfect day and a comprehensive tour of the area. Highly recommend!
Arman was a very good guide. He drove safely and had a positive attitude. I don’t recommend Myvatn Baths. It smells like sulfur and therefore made us smell like sulfur for days. It is expensive and there is not enough time to enjoy it. It is also under construction, so you will have a cranes in your pictures. Be ready and outside by 8:30am, not 9am. The other tours tell you this. The tour is really only 8 hours long. Good locations!
This tour was INCREDIBLE!!! I was travelling with my nephews ages 11 and 14. We all had an incredible day! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because getting to Dettifoss was frankly dangerous. We should have been advised to wear crampons before the tour. As it was we had 1 hour to see the falls. It took us a full 30 mins to get there as it was solid ice paths. We had literally 2 mins to enjoy the falls (which were INCREDIBLE) and then had to get ourselves back. It was a really dangerous walk!
The walk from the car park to the Detti Foss Watetfall was so treacherous that for most people crampons would be essential.
This tour aim for too many places within a 9 hour duration is not practical. Dettifloss need more time as more than 1/2 of the group could not come back on time. Is no fault of the group as the walking path to the waterfall is far and flooding in certain part of path which nèed detour. Myvatn bath, 1 hour to experience is very rush and either you skip your lunch and do the bath or you skip the bath and take your lunch.
Just returned from a fantastic day out with Imagine Iceland Travel. Our driver and guide Norbert was friendly, professional and went the extra mile in making this day trip truly memorable. He is an ambassador for the company. Thank you
We loved the small group tour. Tweety took his time and explained the Icelandic life. Great experience!
Daniel ensured that this trip was way above what I expected. He promptly replied to my messages when I booked in Australia. Nothing was too much for him. The itinerary was fabulous. The 2 waterfalls were stunning as was the view over Lake Myvatn. Daniel provided home made rye bread as a snack which was very welcome and yummy. The stop at Jardhitabad was divine. We could have stayed longer bathing in this beautiful Lagoon but Daniel assured us it would be bad for our health. The walk through Myndun Dimmuborga was breathtaking. Nature truly is beautiful. Make sure you wear warm clothing and be prepared to walk.
What a perfect day I had on this tour. Guide Daniel was the best guide I could wish. Very pleasant - secure- carefull and just very nice. We had an amazing trip and stay at all the places of the tour. I have learned a lot about everything. Thank you very much
Perfect weather to view the famous waterfalls and hot springs. Needed the large 4*4 as the roads were covered with snow/ice.
Due to road closure and minimum number not reached they canceled the tour. Waiting for full refund!!
Lovely amazing Day Tour. Excellent & professional tour guide. We love the natural scenery & cosy bathing!
It is an amazing day tour. Love the waterfalls, lake Myvatn & relaxing bathing. Excellent, friendly and informative tour guide. We love it!
Great day - great guide. Some things I was a bit at a loss to see why we were there but maybe that was because of the amount of snow. The baths were fantastic and although you need to pay extra you totally should we left the waterfall til the end as too dark in the morning and I’m so glad we did. A fitting finale
A really brilliant guide made the experience interesting and informative. Would definitely recommend
Our guide Norbert was fantastic. The weather wasn’t the best so we couldn’t see some of the sites, but the “important” ones were all accessible. Despite the poor weather, Norbert did an excellent job safely driving us to all the sites, all while keeping us informed with facts throughout the day. I highly recommend this tour, and if you can….request Norbert to be your guide!
Weather was pretty crappy (rained entire time). But our guide Icky was fantastic and made us forget about the weather!! He is a native Icelander from the area (actually drove by his childhood farm), and gave us great explanations of everything. He was proud and enthusiastic about his homeland which made for an excellent day!
This was an amazing tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and fun. We enjoyed our tour, and I would highly recommend it.
So good to travel with a small group & go to so many places seeing all the waterfalls, geothermal area, lava formations etc, etc. The driver/guide made it so interesting & gave us some good explanations about the formations we were seeing. It was a very busy schedule but we would have not seen as much on any other tour. It was pretty late by the time we got lunch at 3pm, which was very welcome after a freezing cold, wet day.
It was a cold, rainy day for this tour but that didn’t dampen the spirit of the tour led by Amann. The guide is a native Icelander with lots of local knowledge and experience guiding tours. It would have been easy to spend more time at sites, but this tour covers lots of ground and Amann kept us on a tight schedule. His local knowledge and sense of humor added to the tour. This tour does include lots of walking. The waterfalls and geologic formations in this area of Iceland shouldn’t be missed—we were more impressed than with the Golden Circle. We were dropped off at the botanical garden and enjoyed that plus the walk into town and back to the port.
Such an educational trip with a tour guide who goes the extra mile to accommodate those on this tour while being an expert on All things Iceland! So highly recommended.
We had the greatest time on our tour with Àrmann this year. We went in the winter and the weather conditions were difficult which meant all the other people scheduled to go on the tour dropped out. We were still keen to go and Àrmann was happy to take us. We saw some wonderful sights and the conditions didn't detract from our enjoyment of seeing the beautiful north. Àrmann was very knowledgeable and fun to spend time with. He obviously loved his country and that showed whilst he was talking us through the sights. This was by far the best tour we took of the 4 we did in Iceland and we would recommend Imagine Iceland to everyone.
Great tour with our guide, Daniel. Lots of beautiful scenery, with a huge variety of places to see. Between waterfalls, caves, and lava fields, it gave a great overview of what northern Iceland had to offer
Marvellous trip, with a very good guide. Good explanations about geological topics, lands and legends. I strongly recommend 🙂
The tour was fantastic. The sights are out of this world. The only thing I would improve is that the guide should let us know the itinerary in advance. We didn’t know where we going and for how long. Other than that, the stories were entertaining and the driving was great.
It was IN-CRE-DI-BLE! Best experience of my life, I recommend this experience to everyone ! The guide was a good guy, he explained well and was very caring.
Just couldn’t ask for a better day! Everything was perfectly explained in details by our amazing guide.
Loved Dettifoss waterfall!!! Absolutely stunning! The guide was great! We were so happy that the tour was not cancelled! We were the only two people and they graciously took us out! Thank you so much!!
What a superb tour this was with the excellent Armann as our guide: so knowledgeable and entertaining; passionate about Northern Iceland, his enthusiasm was infectious. We were a small group of like-minded people; day itself was full of amazing scenery – from the Dimmuborgir Lava field to the geothermal area plus three stunning waterfalls – and lots more yet you never felt rushed. Loved bathing in the Myvatn hot springs, peaceful and less commercialised than the Blue Lagoon. Really recommend Imagine Iceland Travel, such friendly and professional staff with immediate responses to my emails. Cannot wait to go back and do it all over again!
Fantastic experience and well organised trip by a highly reputable company. Our guide, Armaan, made our experience unforgettable. It was the middle of winter, we were the only people on the tour & the road conditions were bad so we couldn’t reach Dettifoss or Selfoss. However, Armaan went out of his way to make up for it and made sure we saw as much as we could. If you want local knowledge, fantastic humour & an awe inspiring experience, then we would highly recommend this trip.
This was the most amazing tour the tour guide Armann was so knowledgeable and highly entertaining. The day just got better and better as we traveled along. Money well spent I would book all my future tours with Armann again.
Great experience. extremely competent and friendly guide, wonderful experiences and extremely exciting destinations
We had the guide to ourselves. He answered all our questions:) He really let us take our time on excursions. Bmol he didn't speak French and we couldn't do dettifoss:(( cause snow we had taken a guide expressly to do this stunt. Otherwise it was top and less tiring to do with the guide than we alone to drive under the snow. The baths of the lake is really to do better than blue laggoon or there are people there vs will be all alone:)
The staff was very helpful, exhaustive, engaging and witty. He told us many anecdotes about Iceland, its contemporary and ancient history, geography, cuisine, etc. Thanks to his irony and passion he made our trip an unforgettable experience.
