Husky Petting In Akureyri (Private)

Our visit with the GoHusky family was so fun! We loved every minute we got to visit with all the pups. Gunni was an absolute pleasure to be around and was very informative about his family’s journey into the dog sledding business. All the love that they have for these beautiful dogs shows in each member of their pack. Our experience was worth every single penny. We are so grateful for the memories!!

We absolutely loved this tour! We learned so much about huskies and life in Iceland. Gunni and Maria were fabulous hosts. The dogs were delightful. Once they rushed out to greet us, they were calm and polite, just nudging for pets. I am not sure if I even got to pet all of them. But the ones I did were wonderful. They also weave the fur. This was a great tour. Pick up was easy and efficient.

Great experience. Huskies hollowed when we arrived to welcome us. Great experience with family. Dogs very well behaved and fun to be around. Wishes we had more time for hike vs just visit, but visit was great.

Our family (2 adult 3 kids) were visiting Iceland for the first time and wanted to find an activity we could do with animals. Being a family of dog owners we thought this sounded like the perfect experience. Spoiler alert: it was! But read on if you'd like to know why. From the moment we were picked up in town by Gunni (plus a husky), we immediately felt like we were just catching up with a friend. He drove us all back to their place and made sure we were all comfortable before releasing the huskies - what an experience! Seeing the smiles on our kids faces as almost 30 huskies came rushing out to meet them was a moment to remember. After spending time getting to know the huskies, we went on a beautiful husky aided hike through the nearby forests. Being September it was crisp but not freezing, and the scenery was breathtaking. The walk wasn't exhausting, so it was a great time to chat with the guides and bond with the huskies. When we returned back to their house, we had a good amount of time to just relax in the house with the huskies. Gunni made us all feel right at home, sharing stories about his family, their huskies, and the region. We definitely forgot we were on a tour and just felt like we were hanging out with friends. This has to be one of the most unique and memorable activities we've ever done as a family, and an experience I would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

I thank Ganni, and his 33 beautiful children, for the incredible kindness and warmth that you give to this furry happiness. For the first time in 4 years I found myself in a place of total pure love, which only these incredible creatures are capable of - DOGS. By the way - this man, Ganni, whose dignity deserves respect, specially went to catch up with me, and deliver me to Akureyri, so that I would get there before nightfall. I RECOMMEND THIS WONDERFUL PLACE. THANKS FROM UKRAINE

Had the absolute best experience meeting Gunnar, Maria and all their beautiful huskies! Loveliest couple who welcomed us into their home, were so kind and shared their stories of the huskies upbringing, how they compete and how they are looked after. It was a privilege to meet the dogs - so well behaved! and also their friendly owners. A fond memory from our Iceland trip - would recommend for any dog lovers :)

I would give this experience 5 stars plus, plus, if I could. From the moment that Gunnar picked me up from my hotel and drove me through the stunning countryside to his home, and the home of his huskies, I knew this would be a memorable experience - and it was! From the avalanche of affection and kisses from the huskies on my arrival, to meeting Maria his wife, to hearing Gunnar's life stories, this experience is entirely different to what is usually available to the traveller. The huskies are loved, and treated as family, the lifestyle here is probably tough at times, but this family have created a family business that is genuine, fun, and will be remembered as the peak of my holiday. If I ever visit Akureyri with my grandchildren this experience will be top of our list. Thank you Gunnar and Maria - and huskies xx

We did the Husky petting here in March 2025. This was such a lovely experience - by this time of the holiday we were really missing our own dog. The dogs were very sweet and affectionate and they had puppies too. We really enjoyed this very much - would very much recommend this to everybody who loves dogs. The owners were very helpful too - they picked us up in town and took us back afterwards

We had a wonderful time petting the huskies at goHusky. Being surrounded by 29 beautiful, friendly, cuddly huskies for an hour - what more can you ask for? We wanted to sign up for dog sledding but timing didn't allow it and this was such a great alternative. Gunnar and Maria were really friendly and we loved Gunnar's stories - he is quite an inspiration!

An incredible experience that brought so much joy to our trip. The husky’s are stunning and so well cared for. It was really fascinating to learn how Go Husky run and we were warmly welcomed. Gunni and his wife were absolutely spectacular and very welcoming. My fiance and I were the only ones there which made it super personal. Gunni and his wife were beyond knowledgeable on huskies and it was nice to hear how they went from owning 1 pup to owning 21 of them! I highly recommend this and even tho I didn't take a sledding tour I know that would be amazing as well! Book this today!

Do not hesitate in booking this, it is a slice of heaven on earth. The pups are wonderful, you will fall in love instantly. The humans in charge are an amazing couple, living their best life in one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. Go, soak in the Husky love, your heart will grow ten sizes, it is pure zen being amongst these gorgeous creatures. One of my favourite days ever, can't wait to see them all again. Utter bliss.

From the moment Gunni greeted us at our hotel to take us to his husky wonderland, we felt a warm local connection. He has such a love for what he does and a great manner setting up what to expect. When we arrived the dogs were all waiting for us, tails wagging. I could have cried with joy. I’ve loved huskies my whole life and have never been around so many. It’s amazing what this family is doing and seeing them in their home element is incredible. Highly recommend a stop here. PS: the view is stunning, too! Would love to come back for some husky therapy.

Had a great visit, enjoyed the dog and the story of it all came to be. The landscape was beautiful and the owners so friendly and kind!

As a dog lover, this was the absolute perfect experience. All of the dogs showed their distinct personalities and shared their love as they wanted, which was a lot.

What a wonderful experience my husband and I had whilst on holiday (cruising to Iceland from the UK June in 2023). Such a lovely friendly visit Gunnar, his daughter and friend were also very charming. We were picked up promptly at the port by a friend of the family who walked one of the Huskey dogs at the pier so we could recognise him. The driver was very informative and a lovely person too. Gunnar is one of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Very well informed and the love for the dogs was so wonderful to witness. Every dog was in beautiful condition and looked loved in every way possible. A special treat was seeing the puppies too who were playful and SO stunning (beautiful facial markings). We also met Gunnar's daughter a charming friendly young lady who was a pleasure to be around. Unfortunately, we didn't meet Gunnar's wife due to work her work commitments but we felt we knew her by the lovely loving stories Gunnar told us about his wife. We were offered refreshments but didn't take Gunnar up on the coffee due to just getting off the ship after breakfast. For anyone planning to do this tour a top tip refrain from the coffee on the ship and wait until you get to Gunnar house. I would highly recommend this tour. It is a totally different experience and well worth the cost (which in Icelandic terms, was great value). I would go back in a heartbeat. We had an amazing day with Gunnar, María, and the huskies. The hosts are so gracious, warm, and feel like friends you've know for years. Their huskies are amazing. So sweet, love being petted and seek out affection. The energy in the house is so calm even though there are 20 huskies and 3 puppies. You can see how loved and well cared for the dogs are. Amazing time with the huskies and we were very lucky to see the 9 week old puppies!!! All the dogs are so friendly and love to be pet and cuddled. The hosts were very welcoming and very friendly. Their knowledge of the dogs, dog sledding, and Iceland in general definitely added to the experience. I loved everything about it, and highly recommend for others who are dog lovers and wanting to learn about dog sledding.

This was such an amazing experience all around, could not have asked for better! Will definitely be recommending this to anyone who visits Iceland and I plan to be back again next time I am on town!

This is what all experiences should aim for, fantastic welcome, gentle introduction to the huskies with very interesting details about the animals and a tour of their home. We then spent close to an hour petting all 18 huskies. We were encouraged to take photos and ask anything about the animals - hot fresh coffee was great too. We were shown products that they were waving from the husky hair but there was no pressure or expectation to buy anything. The owners are clearly passionate about the animals and the business - they are friendly and welcoming - their English is perfect. We booked the activity for my teenage nieces and they have not stopped talking about the experience. I highly recommend this experience - I look forward to doing it again when my grandchildren visit 🙏

Visited with my kids aged 5 and 10. Had a wonderful time with all the dogs. Completely immersive experience- owners were so kind. We also learned a huge amount during our visit. Highly recommended.

Maria was an amazing host, and her dogs were great fun. It was truly a unique experience to meet 18 dogs at the same time. Lots of kisses and cuddles. We had a blast petting and playing with her pups and their personalities were truly on display. It's also very clear that Maria and her husband are true husky and sledding fanatics and treat their dogs as if they were their children. It was a great hour with the pups.

So fun! My husband loves dogs, so I thought this would be a treat for him…and it was!! The dogs are so sweet. Gunnar was so friendly and informative; it was like visiting a friend. We tell everyone about the yarn he makes out of the dogs’ fur! Next time we’ll definitely do the dog walking visit!

Superb experience! We literally spent the day with a pack of 18 husky’s. They were sweet and playful. Each had its own personality and temperament. Kids had a fantastic time and it was by far the stand out experience on our trip to Iceland. It’s a little off the beaten path but totally worth the drive.

The highlight of our trip to Iceland!Gunni picked us up at the cruise port with one of his gorgeous pups! He drove us to his lovely home right on the water! We met his wife Maria and they made us feel like we were old friends. They introduced us to their 18 beautiful huskies! The dogs were so sweet and you could see how loved they are. We learned so much about Iceland and Huskies, it was the best time! We definitely want to go back in the winter to have a sled ride! Highly recommend!

After our cruise itinerary was changed Gunni was so kind to re-arrange our tour. He picked us up from the cruise port with a great warm welcome. We were welcomed into his lovely home and we were able to spend over an hour with the beautiful huskies. We had an absolutely fabulous time and to top off our experience Gunni posted a Facebook video of the huskeys singing farewell to us as our ship sailed past his house! Such a special momento of our experience which we will treasure. Thank you so much Melissa and Steve 🤩

This was our favorite thing we did on our entire trip — and that's saying something for a trip that included ice cave tours, seeing the northern lights and snowmobiling! The dogs were so beautiful and friendly and Gunnar and his daughter were a delight. They gave us a tour of the entire place and it was so clear they love these dogs like family. This was a surprise trip for my husband for his birthday and he said it was the best gift I've ever given him. The dogs even "sang" him happy birthday. PLUS we got to see the puppies who were only 3 weeks old at the time. Truly unforgettable, wonderful experience.

This was a highlight of our trip for sure. Felt very welcomed and being around the friendly beautiful dogs brought us a lot of joy. Greatly appreciated the warm hospitality and the hot chocolate at the end and hanging out with locals was really fun too. This was so much fun. Each dog had their own personality. Definitely recommend. Would suggest staying in Akureyri as we did. Made it easy to get to the huskies the next day.

We had the honour of sharing time with Maria, Gunnar and their gorgeous huskies over Christmas. Their dogs are clearly well looked after, and share a delight in having visitors as much as we really enjoyed playing with them. The landscape is breathtaking and we’re made very welcome in Maria and Gunnar’s home and they are very hospitable people. Their huskies are well behaved and very friendly. If you’re in the North of Iceland, we throughly recommend this experience.

My friends and I visited with Maria, Gunni, and the huskies in November and we had a lovely time! Maria and Gunni were so warm and welcoming and the dogs were so sweet and entertaining. Their house sits in an amazingly beautiful location on the water and it was a great backdrop to playing with the pups. They dogs were well behaved and each had such distinct personalities, some wanted to snuggle, others wanted to run around. We didn’t have enough time to do a sledding tour but next time we’re in the area it’s on the top of our list with goHusky. If you love dogs I can’t recommend goHusky enough!

We visited GoHusky with our two year old daughter and it was so much fun. The family who run it are amazingly accomodating and so friendly and informative and told us so many interesting and cool things about the dogs. And the dogs, oh my gosh they are so beautiful, sweet and friendly. We played with them for hours and could of stayed there all day! Our daughter had the best time with these furry dogs, she didn't want to leave. I can't not mention either the location, beautiful! We went in January and there was snow everywhere, a cute little church right next door, and mountains and water as a backdrop, breathtaking! If you are in the area I highly recommend a visit or a sled ride, we'll definitely be back!
