Very central hotel with good views and good coffee machines in the rooms. Unfortunately that’s about the best I can say about it. Above all our ‘superior’ room was very dark (in midsummer!) with no effective reading lights by the bed. The bathroom was adequate but dated with a low-pressure shower, and the more casual restaurant (Terian) served uninspiring food (but good wine) in a dead atmosphere for dinner, and then the worst hotel breakfast I’ve had in six hotels in Iceland, with no skyr or fresh bread to cut and ‘boiled eggs’ served in peculiar long cylinders.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Hótel Kea by Keahotels. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well suited for a relaxing stay. The bed was comfortable, although the pillow was very soft for my preference, so I found myself folding it in half for a bit more support. The curtains did a good job of blocking out the summer daylight. There was still a small amount of light that leaked in around the edges, but it wasn’t enough to be a major issue. The bathroom is a decent size, although it feels a little dated compared to the rest of the room. The shower worked well and had no major issues. Breakfast offered a good variety of options and was a great way to start the day. The hotel also has a lovely bar where you can enjoy a drink in the evening, and it was a nice bonus to have an ice machine available for guests. Overall, Hótel Kea is a comfortable hotel in a great location, with spacious rooms, a good breakfast, and thoughtful amenities. We’d happily stay here again.
The hotel was nice as far as the lobby and restaurant, but the rooms were dated. As you can tell from the pictures the rooms need a little remodeling. The linens are old and need to replaced. Overall a convenient location, but but need a little TLC in the rooms. Breakfast buffet was the best we had on the island.
I want to praise the staff at Hotel Kea for such great customer service, even before our stay. I had an issue with our reservation, and error on my part. I emailed the hotel and received a quick and courteous response, and extra efforts to meet our travel needs. I would recommend Hotel Kea for their impressive responsiveness any time!
The pillows leave much to be desired. Husband said “It’s like the pillows you get in prison.” Folding in half made them tolerable enough. Otherwise excellent. Very clean. Bed was firm and comfy. I normally like soft but had no problem finding good sleep. Blackout curtains works very well. Very nice blankets. Room was warm and welcoming good views from the 5th floor. Close walk to many places. No skyr at breakfast but all other food was delicious and well prepared.
