Caroline was a wonderful guide for my first day in Aix. As someone who has lived and raised her family in Aix, she knows all the nooks and crannies, not just the major sights. I was grateful to know where to find the public toilets, the library (for a quiet morning to catch up on correspondence) , authentic cafes, and shops for unique souvenirs. As a solo traveler, I was grateful for Carolyn’s follow up messages to help increase my enjoyment of Aix.

Itinerary
The monumental Rotonde Fountain, symbol of Aix-en-Provence, built in 1860.
The most famous artery of Aix-en-Provence, with its numerous café terraces and private mansions. Stop in front of the Hôtel de Villars, 17th century, residence of the governor of Provence.
The most beautiful 18th century mansion in the Mazarin district, which has become an art center.
The Fontaine des Quatre Dauphins, a 17th century jewel, is located in the center of the Mazarin district.
First Gothic church in Provence built in the 13th century. Presentation of the Granet Museum which adjoins the church.
The good King René, emblematic character, last Count of Provence.
Picturesque passage created in 1846 between Cours Mirabeau and the Palais de Justice, Place Verdun. We owe it to Félicien Agard who bought a large part of the former convent of the Grands Carmes.
19th century Palace of Justice, built on the site of the former Count's Palace.
Hôtel Boyer d'Eguilles 17th century, with its monumental facade and colossal Corinthian pilasters.
The most charming square in Aix-en-Provence with the harmony of its facades, its restored cobblestone and its fountain. Albertas Hotel opposite.
Ancienne Place aux Herbes, hosts a local producers' market every day.
Town Hall Square XVII created by Pavillon and the sculptors Rambot and Fossé. Former grain markets and its spectacular pediment by Jean-Pancrace Chastel. Clock tower (belfry).
After taking rue Gaston de Saporta, stop at Place de l'Archevêché (Place des Martyrs de la Résistance) where the former 18th century Archiepiscopal Palace is located, today the Tapestry Museum.
Located on the site of the ancient Forum, remodeled several times. Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque naves. Baptistery from the 6th century. Very pretty cloister.

Fantastic tour! We had a wonderful tour of Aix-en-Provence with Caroline. She was incredibly engaging and enthusiastic from start to finish, which made the experience both informative and fun. What really stood out was how attentive she was to our five-year-old—she kept him entertained the entire time while still delivering a rich and detailed tour for the adults. Caroline’s attention to detail was amazing. She pointed out fascinating features of the buildings, took us inside several of them, and shared details we never would have noticed on our own. She is kind, funny, and clearly passionate about her city. Even before the tour, she was excellent with communication and reached out on WhatsApp with thoughtful recommendations for restaurants and kid-friendly activities. It was clear she genuinely wanted us to have a great time in Aix-en-Provence. We truly had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend her.
Caroline is an outstanding guide - very personable, enthusiastic, and highly prepared. She grew up in the region and uses personal recollection and photographs to allow comparisons of past and present. Sĥe pointed out important details and led us into spaces we otherwise would have overlooked. She adds many stories and histories along the way. The tour added immeasurably to our appreciation of this beautiful city.
We enjoyed a wonderful tour through Aix-en-Provence with Caroline! Her knowledge and passion for the area came through at each stop, as she explained significant facts related to history, culture, food and the lifestyle of current residents. We came away with a deep appreciation for the city, and a strong desire to return on a future trip for a longer stay.
Aix en Province is a lovely & interesting small town to visit in Provence. We were delighted to find an excellent vegan restaurant called Drôle d’Endroit as this difficult in France. Draw back is TGV station being outside the city centre which is rather inconvenient ! October was a great month to visit as the weather was warm & sunny & less tourism !
Caroline communicated several times before our tour; this provided assurance that the tour would take place. Her presentation was clear, comprehensive, and interesting. She highlighted the specialness of Aix-en-Provence.
Caroline is an exceptional tour guide and a truly wonderful person. She is incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and attentive, creating a warm and engaging experience from start to finish. She went out of her way to ensure I was comfortable and that the tour was both enjoyable and meaningful. I wholeheartedly recommend her — she made the day truly special.
I was so happy to experience such a wonderful walking tour in Aix ! Before the tour Caroline sent me mails and confirmed about the tour, so that I had no worry to meet her. She was a true professional and a wealth of knowledge about Aix and she is updating it every time. I was so impressed that she carried many photographs, pictures, maps and catalogs in case that we could not touch them in person. Thanks to her, I really come to love Aix !!!! Unfortunately my visit was a little bit early to experience the Paul Cezanne world-wide Exhibition, but after the tour she shared her photos and impressions with me. I've never met such a friendly guide before !!!! If you are visiting Aix for the first time, you should definitely not miss this tour
Caroline was amazing! She was very kind, engaging, prepared, and thoughtful in her tour. We greatly enjoyed our tour with her and would highly recommend.
Caroline was a wealth of knowledge. She enjoyed sharing her town and history with us. She was very enthusiastic. She had pictures and maps of what she was showing us from the past and how it has changed. She was extremely helpful in getting us to our restaurant reservation. She made a phone call for us … since there were 2 restaurants with the same name. We had asked our Viking Cruise Representative to make the reservation for us, but he never gave us the address.
I would suggest that you book a trip on the first full day of your stay. That way you can get to know the little side streets and alleys, and it will help with your navigation for the rest of your time in Aix. My tour guide was Caroline, she was very knowledgeable about Aix, and gave a very in depth history about the statues and buildings, and she knows a lot about Paul Cezanne. It was great to walk around, enjoy looking at the beautiful gardens and drawing rooms at Hôtel de Caumont, which takes you back to fancy 18th century living, the decor has been frozen in time and quite stunning. It's a great way to spend a couple of hours or so.
Thank for a wonderful tour of Aix. So many hidden gems and lots of local info from Caroline who was so helpful and engaging. You provided just what we were looking for😀
We had an amazing time with Caroline! She really created a custom-made tour for us: a Swedish couple that wanted a mix of English and French, and she adapted the tour after our interests, questions and physics (a bit slower walking pace). The tour is very professional - she brought maps, books and pictures to show us, and she really devoted her time to us. :-) Besides all the vivid info about history, archtecture, art and traditions, she replied to all our odd questions we had about contemporary life in Aix, since one of us has lived in Aix a looong time ago - un grand MERCI pour ça Caroline, le tour était un vrai souvenir d’Aix! ♡ We are so grateful! // Anna & Anders
