Fantastic and informative tour through the history of Aix to the present day, covering many subjects such as art, architecture , politics and economy, to name but a few. Richard was very knowledgeable on all topics and it was a super way to spend 2.5 hours on day 2 of our trip to Aix to give us a solid understanding of the city.
Great tour by a local! Very informative 2plus hours that went quickly. We highly recommend this tour. We learned alot about Aix.
Great way to get the back story of this wonderful city and an understanding if the sources of great wealth and influence over the centuries. Richard is a great source of local knowledge and really understands the Aix-en-Provence scene, take the tour you’ll thoroughly enjoy your time walking the back streets and laneways of this picturesque market town.
We truly enjoyed our tour of Aix with Richard--he is very friendly and knowledgeable and showed us so much in just a few hours. We learned not only about Aix's history and culture but about its exciting high-tech future. It was a fun way to explore a beautiful city. We highly recommend Richard's tour!
We would not know...it was canceled! We thought it was paid for when we booked it months ago, they charged our card the day before and it had expired the day before that. We tried to call several times but no one answered. I am in a wheelchair and there are few tours for that detail, So, we were VERY disappointed. We are looking at moving here and this was less then inspiring.
Richard was an amazing story teller and guide. If you are looking to understand the history behind the beautiful city of AIX, he is your man. He took us through a walk of Aix along with an explanation of how and when many of the Places (plazas) came to be, when they were developed, and who was in power all the way back to the roman days (BC). He was a Friendly and interesting guy!
What a great tour. A lot of depth to a great and beautiful city. We got historical and contemporary perspective from someone who clearly loves Aix. And got a great restaurant recommendation. Highly recommend.
The guide provided interesting history up to current time. He shared behind the scenes stories. He answered all our questions
Very knowledgeable and fun guide. Great historical context. Highly recommended walking experience in a very beautiful city.
Richard was terrific & Interesting. Lots of great information and loved his humor. Shared great information.
This is a must do in Aix! We only had 2 days to visit and Richard’s tour was absolutely incredible. He is friendly, knowledgeable, and the perfect tour guide. In 2 hours we felt like we had seen most of what there was to see and it gave us some great tips to use in our time exploring alone.
Loved Richard's tour. He is very likeable, interesting, and knowledgeable. The tour was relaxed, informative and fun. The walking pace is leisurely. The distance we covered was about 3,000 steps. The 2 hours passed quickly. I took the tour the day before leaving Aix. I would have appreciated the city even more than I did, which was alot, had I taken the tour at the beginning of my stay. The tour connects you to the heart beat of the city. I highly recommend booking Richard's tour in advance of your arrival to Aix to ensure there is a spot waiting for u. Hope you enjoy your time as much as I did.
My wife and myself were joined by our travel guide Richard. It was a delightful and very informative walk along the Maribeau Rotunda in Aix en Provence. We learned about the history dating back to Roman time.
This was a beautiful community to walk through. There were a variety of plazas and gardens to enjoy. As we were walking down the streets, I noticed that everyone had a unique doo knocker...they were all beautiful.
Richard led a great tour! He was very knowledgeable about the history of Aix and presented 2600 years of history and events in a fun, storytelling way. We hit all the best highlights! Thank you Richard!
Richard is knowledgeable and entertaining in equal measure ! I highly recommend this tour which we really enjoyed
We loved our walking tour with Richard. We are 30 year olds that typically don't do "touristy" things like tours but we are so glad we did because Richard helped us have a greater appreciation for the absolutely beautiful place Aix is. He was simultaneously funny and informative. He made it feel like a close friend or family member was showing you around. I would highly recommend. We are so glad we did this on our first day in Aix too because we immediately had a greater grasp of the layout of the city and had an easier time navigating the rest of our stay.
Engaging, fun, detailed. You really get a sense of the past of the city and how it plays out in the present. Richard is one of the best walking tour guides I’ve been with across most countries I’ve visited - he not only shares facts but also builds a structured and engrossing narrative. His home work on the history and the offerings of the city is impressive.
Nice walking tour to get familiarized with Aix-en-Provence. Richard takes you to the highlight sites of the city.
I highly recommend this walking tour for your first or second day in Aix Provence. We learned so much of the history of the area and we were able to gather a game plan for where we wanted to go over the next few days. Without him we would walk by buildings and miss their historical references; with the guide we got the history and the importance of each time period block by block!
Richard was an excellent guide. He gave a lot of information, and helped us navigate a lot of rain! He handled one of our group members very delicately
Thanks for a great tour - was a perfect way to learn about Aix. Richard was a great guide and I’d highly recommend.
Well thought out, informative and thoroughly entertaining. Richard was a joy to listen to. Excellent
Getting a little history on the city of Aix-en-Provence over 1,800 years! From Roman times through the middle ages. The French Revolution and its real targets. Schoolboy stories regarding Cezanne & Zola. Napoleon's balcony speech. King Rene and his civic improvements. A town filled with lawyers, doctors, students and priests. A little bit of post Brexit realities for UK expats living in Aix and France. Thanks, Richard!
Richard was a wonderful guide. He was super knowledgeable about all things Aix and throughout our walking tour gave us a thorough history of Aix and the region. It was great that the 2 hour tour was early in the day while the town is still quiet. I loved the small group (4) and would highly recommend Richard’s walking tour!

Richard is such an engaging tour guide. He is very informative and funny and we learned so much about the history and culture of Aix. We didn’t want the tour to end! It was a perfect way to spend a couple of hours and a great way to integrate ourselves into this charming town.
We had a really great time discovering Aix and all of its history. This walking tour (in English !) was very enjoyable and very interesting! The Guide was very friendly and very funny! We’ll be back for another one soon !! We would totally recommend it !
Richard was a great host! An amazing way to walk through the city of aix and looking at it from a different point of view while learning a lot about the history of the city. The walk is not to long/to far so verry accesable for everyone. A great addition to a relaxing holiday
Richard was an excellent guide! I learned so much as he took us through 2,000 years of history around the old city. Although I had previously walked through the city 5 times, I didn't know what I was looking at and didn't appreciate this beautiful city until I went on Richard's tour. Thank you!
Richard was an excellent tour guide. He was funny, intelligent and informative. On this tour we roamed through the streets of Aix learning its secrets and fun facts. I really enjoyed my morning and highly recommended it to anyone looking to learn a bit more about this magical ville!
A real pleasure to walk, listen and talk with Richard, around beautiful Aix, learning not only about the city and its history, culture art and rosy (tech cutting-edge) future, but also a little about Richard and the interesting journey he’s had to end up there. There’s a story in everything and he’s a great story-teller. The tour is conducted and rounded off in a knowledgable, accessible and clever way which will stay in your mind. Book this and be guaranteed a morning/afternoon to remember.
Great intro to a great city! A good way to pass a few hours learning more about Aix and it’s history.
Richard was extremely knowledgeable and his passion for Aix was infectious. Highly recommend doing on your first day to get your bearings and learn about this special place.
We went on the walking tour with Richard to get an introduction to the city on the first day of of our 3-nights in Aix. Richard is an energetic, knowledgeable and friendly guide with good sense of humor. We thought the 2-hour tour was just perfect in length, the amount of walking, and how much gets covered. He pointed out several things that we would have never seen on our own. Even recommended a restaurant for our anniversary dinner that turned out to be one of the most romantic settings ever. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Aix and Richard's walking tour.
Richard provided an interesting and original tour. His English was also very understandable for non-native speakers.
Relaxed, amusing and informative. A well put together mix of history, anecdote and observation. Thank you!
Richard is a fabulous guide! I went on his walking tour on my first day in Aix and it was the perfect introduction to the city. I learned to much so easily. Richard weaves the history and sites of Aix together in such an engaging way. He's got a wonderful sense of humor and as an expat he understands how newcomers and tourists experience the city. Highly recommended! Don't miss this one!
This wonderful walking tour around the charming town of Aix was fantastic. Our guide was informative and knowledgeable and a lot of fun to talk to. He kept a good pace and everyone was very pleased with the experience. It takes a couple of hours (could go over by 15-20 mins) depending on the street traffic. You will not be disappointed.
Richard was a terrific guide effortlessly weaving in the rich history of Aix en Provence as expertly as he weaved through the narrow streets and tight corners. Richard provided both serious and mischievous historical details making it easy to visualize the Aix that was. He thoughtfully bookends the tour with updates on the Aix of today, bringing it full circle. I can't say enough good things about this tour and guide!!
Richard leads a fun tour! We learned plenty and had some good laughs. Highly recommend. You won't be disappointed. it was a great start to a five days in Aix.
What a great way to learn about Aix, Richard knows the town and its where abouts. We had a great afternoon.
Wonderful tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. We enjoyed the informal and interesting presentation style. Thank you for a fantastic experience!
I highly recommend starting your visit in Aix with a comprehensive/compact 2 hour walking tour with Richard. He is extremely informative, knows and loves Aix. He conveys his admiration for the city and fills you in with the rich history of the beautiful city. Richard we really enjoyed the tour . It was pleasure to meet you.
Richard was a very good guide. Knowledgeable and well versed in the history of Aix. We would have liked a planned break for water or a bathroom during the tour. That is our only one little suggestion. We were a private group of 8. Enjoyed Richard immensely!
A relaxed and highly informative walk through Aix. Richard is knowledgeable, amusing and so obviously has a love of Aix and Provence in general. Take a walk...learn a lot...and get your bearings in Aix ( and incidentally..advice on visiting Marseilles...which we did) Thank you Richard x
Richard is superb. Has encyclopedic knowledge of the history of the area. Presents the information not as a history teacher, but as context for the city as a whole and then each section so that it was alive: who the original peoples were, the movement of traders, the Romans, Gauls, Franks from Germany (France), et al. Then talks about the future direction of what is becoming the second largest tech area because of the large number of schools and young people. 70,000 in a city of ~220,000. He is easy-going and very accommodating for seniors.
Would recommend Richards tour as an excellent way of learning about the history of Aix . It was Informative and very interesting
We got to see things and understand Aix in a fun and interesting way. There was history, art, and understanding the French Revolution in a whole new way!
