What a wonderful day touring ancient sites in Crete with Kostas! The Mercedes Benz van we had was spacious and incredibly comfortable. He made our journey incredibly special by allowing us to customize our day. At every site he gave us a ton of historical information and analysis of the information available to date about the sites. He also surprised us with home baked Cretian sweets at every stop baked by his super talented mother which were incredible. If you do one tour in Crete it should be this one!
Fun tour, knowledgeable and fun guide. Comfortable ride. Don’t climb to the cave unless you’re in good shape. Just ride a donkey. Amazing food all along the way, too.
This wasn't just a tour, this was an intellectual, engaging, and, most importantly, transformative experience that money couldn't possibly buy. We started the day with Kostas meeting us at our hotel with his luxurious van. Our first stop was Psychro. I made it to the cave and back by myself because Kostas assessed husband's knee condition and advised him, quite astutely, against going. I am still amazed that I completed the trek. Next we stopped at a gift shop because I had told Kostas that I wanted something to take home, but not just any tourist junk. I now have a statuette of the goddess Themis. We also watched Kostas demonstrate the usage and purpose of the Pythagorean cup. For lunch, we ate at a family-run restaurant called Seli Ambelou. The farm-fresh food is different from typical Greek fare. Needless to say, yummy as well. Then we drove through Krasio (we passed on the option of walking though) and saw the impressive 2400-year-old plane tree. Final stop was Malia Palace (we were given the choice of Knossos or Malia and we chose Malia for its authenticity). All along the way, Kostas inspired us with his extensive knowledge on myriad topics. Our takeaway from this tour is not just the memories and photos of the sites we visited, but also the invaluable information Kostas imparted on us that will be applicable to our lives.
One of the best guides we've ever had. Knowledgeable and informative; he asked us how much detail we wanted, and when we said a lot, he gave us a lot. He also gave us some homemade (by his mother) treats, a jar of honey, figs, and some other treats....definitely an above and beyond guide. Knossos was amazing, as was the cave of Zeus.
Had the most amazing tour guide…Angie!! The best!!! Very knowledgeable, professional, well informed, knows the best times to get into Museum’s & avoid cues…Angie filled the day with perks, local treats & extra time to enjoy the day & learn. Highly recommend her 👍👍
You could not ask for a better day out. The various stops during the day were well planned and highly interesting, but the best part of it all was Angie, our fantastic driver and guide. She is professional in all aspects, extremely knowledgeable about the history of Crete (and many other things!), but she is also funny, down to earth and very good company. When we return to Crete, we will ask for her personally to lead our next excursion. Thank you so much!
Excellent day with Angie as our guide. Very knowledgeable, funny, and easy to get along with. Met the other guide, Kostas, at lunch in a wonderful Taverna with stellar food. Everyone is so fun and the sights are great. 10/10.
We had a fabulous time with Kostas. Even if the weather was somewhat less than great he kept us both entertained and informed throughout the trip. In particular, his knowledge if the ancient world and desire to spark original thoughts really kept us on our toes! We loved the little extras Kostas brought to the trip - from a visit to an olive oil factory to the honey from his family. We can thoroughly recommend this trip!
We had a great day. If you don't want to go wrong and are looking for the best, Kostas is the one for you. The tour is shaped on your requests and in addition Kostas will propose you some additional special stops. Kostas is very punctual and helpful, an excellent driver and his van very comfortable. Very good with children. He will pamper you with produce from his parents' farm. You will judge if the price is adequate: in our opinion it is! Good luck Kostas.
First Class all the way. Luxury VIP vehicle is an understatement. For the price I had high expectations. Kostas exceeded all my expectations. Knowledgeable! Pround of his company! Proud of his country. Proud to show it to you. We asked for a personal tour of the Museum and he recommended the tour guide, set it up and assured me he only works with the best. She was the best! We had 4 personal tours scheduled throughout Greece, she was exactly what Kostas promised...the best! His stated goal at the beginning was to make sure we had fun. We did!
If you want the full meal deal you need to use this company. Kostas was very informative and very knowledgeable about the tour. The van was awesome. I’m talking first class transportation. Kostas had so many extra things to try food wise and snack wise that was part of it. Most his mother had made which was a special touch. If you want VIP treatment use this company.
I had always wanted to visit the island where my grandfather was born but had never seen and since we made it, despite the nightmare of the pandemic, the only thing left was to find a tour that would show us as much of the island as possible. The only way to describe our choice is that we hit the Jackpot. Costas took us on an incredible tour but our luck didn't end there. He offered to take us to a beach called holy gorge the next day which when we googled we yelled YESSS. He took us there in his pickup truck because the road is horrible the last few miles. The road stops right before the entrance of the gorge which we had to trek in order to get to the beach. The trekking took 20 minutes more or less and it was super easy. Once we reached the beach we were in awe. We stayed there that long that we had to use the flashlights on our phones to trek back. We would have paid any amount Costas had asked for that experience but he refused to accept any even for fuel. He called it repatriation gift. Honest hospitality at its very best.
Go no further if you’re looking for a customizable Crete tour conducted in style and comfort within a relaxed and humorous atmosphere. In fact, my kids asked if Kosta was my “brother from another mother”. Pro: Great with the kids Filled with interesting information Only excellent driver on the island Con: We should have booked an additional day and seen/learned even more… You know how we all have that one uncle, not the crazy one, the other one who has you hanging on every word of a colorful story? Well, that’s “Uncle” Kosta who epitomized Cretan hospitality with a well balanced mix of historical facts, local lore, Greek mythology, cultural idiosyncrasies, hands-on lessons of flora and fauna, tastes, sights and sounds of the island. His dry humor and story telling captured the attention of the entire family and kept us all engaged. His flexibility and breadth of knowledge shown through with side detours and deep dives into our own varied topics of interest (Food, Mythology, WWII, etc). Not one part of the trip was “canned”, we were always presented with options and candid recommendations and feedback, from stops to restaurants. Additionally, Kosta made himself available during the remainder of our vacation to call if we had any questions, required additional recommendations, etc. A son of Crete, Kosta is an ambassador to those seeking to experience the wonders of Cretan life, which I credit to his desire to treat those around him like family (or at least the family you like). Thank you Uncle Kosta, we hope to see you again in the future. Cheers. ***Note, I’ve relied on Trip Advisor reviews for ever and have never taken the time to write one. This experience compelled me to do so… don’t miss out!
The tour with Kostas was really great - the car super comfortible, Kostas´ descriptions/narrations of Crete history and sights really entertaining, food in taverns which he recommended very tasty. It was an amazing day.
The tour with Kostas was amazing. It began with being picked up in one of the nicest Mercedes minivan I have ever been in. Kostas knows his history and makes it interesting for all; including our kids. He had added touches along the way which included delicious honey and fruits from his own garden. I would highly recommend this tour around Crete.
Kostas was an excellent tour guide. We had a licensed tour guide for the Knossos part, which I would recommend, then after that it was us and Kostas. He personalized the trip based on what our interests and needs were. We paid for an 8 hour tour but he stayed with us well past 8 hours, took us to enjoy a night/dinner in the town, he even came back the next day to make sure we had a ride to and from the airport! You guys, if you book him, you’ll get the tour package but he will also take care of you the WHOLE time your in Crete!
Wow! Can I say this tour changed my life? Kostas was an amazing host and we enjoyed every minute! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
One of those extremely rare tours. It really felt like a privilege being on this tour. 10 hours that flew by so swiftly, and so many memories to take back home. I can only say just go for it and be confident that disappointment won’t even dare to come anywhere near you.
Totally underpriced for what we got out of this tour. Knossos was a wonderful experience. Going there without a hat is ill-advised though. Not a single place we visited gets less than 5 stars. This applies to our driver as well.
This was an amazing tour. There were so many highlights. The itinerary was perfect. The hiking was well within the realm of my capabilities for my sedentary life style. Thank you for everything. See you in 2023!!
We chose this tour after the recommendation of the receptionist at the hotel we were staying. We were very skeptical at first after all that praising that made us think she must be related to the tour company. It didn't take us long too realize why. From the moment we got into the vehicle we felt at home. Clean, spacious, comfortable and with a T.V. that kept my 4 year old son busy watching cartoons while we were diving into the magnificent history/mythology of the island. Maybe it's not important but we were provided with water all day long. We were offered a bottle before we even think we were thirsty. I don't know what the cost of it was but it made us feel that the company cared more about people than dollars. Thank you for those amazing 10+ hours.
One of the best tours I have been on over the last 10 years. Had some great conversations that kept me from drifting to my default state of boredom. I do recommend it!!
-Service 10/10 -Interaction 10/10 -Value 10/10 -Safety 10/10 -Driving 10/10 -Attentiveness 10/10 -Professionalism 10/10 -Flexibility 10/10
We took the tour on a hunch and did not regret it. Costas made the tour feel like a day trip with old friends . His knowledge of the local history and culture is amazing all wrapped in a natural sense of humour. The locations selected very carefully to reflect the best this place has to offer and the vehicle was comfortable and spotless The highlight was the homemade raki and honey. we can't recommend the service enough .
At first, we had decided to go around the island in a rental but after just one day of experiencing all that erratic-aggressive driving and the f1 style overtakes we changed our minds and went on some tours instead. This was the 3rd and last yet by far the best. We were treated like friends and that made all the difference.
Our hotel had arranged our transfer from the airport and from the very first second of our arrival all the way to the hotel we were treated like royals. Two days later we asked at the reception if they could arrange a tour for us with the same company of the transfer. They brought us in contact and after several suggestions we chose this tour, which was outstanding. It lasted a lot longer that we had expected since we kept saying yes to all the different suggestions and we never regretted it. The best of those suggestions was to get involved in picking grapes. Amazing experience. We got dirty but it was worth it. For our help the farmer even gave us two bags full of grapes. I wish we could taste the wine those grapes produced. We were super excited that this tour turned out to be so beyond the norm.
At first my Greek friend had to take me to Crete, which I refused because it was so far from Athens. But... It's been such a worthwhile journey! Especially this Cretan cultural tour! Local guide Kasdas is cool! He speaks good English (finally my Greek friend can take a break without having to translate for me the whole time) and is super nice! The whole trip was well organised, full and without feeling tired. The time of day is just right! The guide's own car is really comfortable (big cost). On the way he would tell many historical stories about Greece/Ancient Rome and various humanities (sedative ecstasy). Several of the attractions brought were the most representative in the area, especially the last museum, which gave me this kind of museum-control ecstasy. If you're unfamiliar with Greek and want to see the human face of Crete, you can't miss this one-day trip to Kasdas!!! Wall Cracking Recommended!!!
