The traditional village of Kritsa, a historic village rich in legends, gorges, archeological and religious monuments and monuments.
The Lower Plateau (altitude 1250m), a plateau famous for the Cretan dwarf hippopotamus fossils found in the area. The plateau has a wonderful landscape surrounded by many legends and stories dating back to the Ottoman era.
Lassithi Plateau (altitude 1150m). More than 10,000 traditional windmills operated in the area until a few decades ago. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Plateau was actually one of the first wind farms in Europe. The Diktaio Cave, that is, the birthplace of Zeus, is located in the village of Psychro (altitude 840m).
As we descend, we make a short stop in the village of Krasi and photograph the favorite plane of the famous Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis. The perimeter of the plane tree is about 24 meters and is estimated to be 2400 years old. It is also said that each measure of its perimeter corresponds to the age of 100 years.

Nikos is the best guide ever! He speaks seven languages, is an excellent driver, extremely kind & helpful & knowledgeable. He gave us an unforgettable day and for that we are so grateful. A must for your Crete experience! Nikos是一位特别好的导游😊会说7门语言而且人超好🥹完美的一天!!大家到克里特来都请订他的团!
An incredible day out! We booked a private tour for 4 adults (family) to explore a bit more of Crete. We got picked up at 9.30 from our hotel in Elounda by Nikos and didn’t get back until after 4.30pm. Our guide and driver for the day, Nikos, was extremely knowledgeable & passionate about Cretan culture, history, food and nature and we thoroughly enjoyed his company! First stop was the Physis olive oil manufacturers to taste olives, olive oil and paste which were all great quality & delicious (and not expensive by UK standards) and to start smelling some of the herbs, trees and flowers! After that we drove to the pretty village of Kristi for a quick walk and then up through the hills to Katharo Plateau and then more fertile Lassithi plateau! Plenty of stops for photos on the way! We got to the Taverna about 1pm to climb (about a 1km) to the magnificent Cave of Zeus! Definitely worth the climb and the extra 15 euros per person! By the time we got back to the Taverna we were famished (the climb was steep in parts) and really enjoyed the lunch included in the tour price! After lunch, we picked cherries by the roadside, and continued back through Krasi village (very pretty) and past some old windmills! Incredible day and would highly recommend! Wear trainers and bring lots of water!
Absolutely blown away by this tour! Highly recommend it! So often ‘traditional villages’ are staged but this tour was authentic from start to finish! Brilliantly guided by the fabulous Panos.
Our guide (Panos) really knows the hidden gems on the Cretan mountain plateaus. Not where they are, but knows also a lot about them Very recommendably
Wonderful landscapes, interesting places and Panos was a very good guide. This six hour trip is good way to see Kritsa, Lasithi and Krasi.
Great tour of Crete! Mr. Nikos is a wonderful guide with extensive knowledge (he speaks 8 languages!) about the island. Highly recommend.
I went to 2 tours, one with Georgos at Lasitki Plateau and one with Nikos, at Vai Beach & Toplu Monastery. Both were nice escapes when i had occasion to discover multicultural layers of Greek nature, geography and traditions. I like Giorgios for his rnthusiasm and pasion about life style, animals, outdoor trips. While Nikos fascinated us with his wide knowledge about bothanics, history, fluency in many languages and curiosity to learn from us but also share his valuable insights. So i had very agreable trips with nice, kind and educated guides. 🤗
We hesitated whether to go on the jeep safari with safari.gr but lucky we went. We started from Agios Nicolaos and went directly high to the mountains. We stopped at the tiny village of Krista. Real, cozy, quiet Greek village. W have tasted a real Greek coffee nothing like in the hotels of the seaside. Than higher and higher following off road steep trail. Our driver and the guide Geoff the Englishman on permanent residence in Crete did a great job – thank you Geoff for a safe ride and interesting stories of the history and culture of Crete. He showed as a completely different Crete – high mountain region, and this was exactly what we expected. Beautiful highland nature, unique culture and views. We stopped on Lassiti plateau for a lunch with Greek cuisine. Altogether a nice day and unforgettable experience. Thank you safari.gr !
Georgios was a fantastic guide, had a brilliant day! He was very entertaining, kind, and shared interesting facts about Greece with us.
Great trip and well recommend, Panos our driver and guide for the day was very friendly and helpful, Panos picked us up from our hotel, he took us to see the Knossos palace first thing then to lunch in a local restaurant in the mountains, we then had a tour of various mountain villages and a monastery where we meet the resident monk. Plenty of stops to take photos and see the sights , all in all a great day .
Our driver/guide/teacher Yiórgos took us through countryside, villages, mountain and plateau. Friendly, helpful and informative and a patient ear, Yiórgos lead us through the history, customs and points of interest and spectacular panoramic views of this wonderful Island. He was attentive to our needs and we always felt comfortable and safe.
We had a wonderful day with Panos. Not only is he a wonderful driver, negotiating the high mountain roads with ease, but his knowledge of the history and mythology of Crete made the trip fascinating. He stopped frequently for us to take photos, and everything we did was interesting. He was friendly, making the day utterly delightful.
The tour was excellent, with spectacular sights and views and a delicious lunch included in the price. The driver, Mr Panos, was helpful and professional. Highly recommended.
Really amazing tour, small group in a 4×4 made it feel personal. Panos was accommodating, friendly, personate and really knowledgeable about Crete's history, mythology and present day goings-on. It's clear that he cares about the local bussinesses and the fact that he takes really good photos is a plus. The tour was great, Panos made it phenomenal. Thankyou to him.
Fantastic day out, Panos was so knowledgeable and a great guide. Great trip to the cave, the olive oil and village. Lunch was great too. Thank you for a wonderful day 🙌
We had an amazing experience. Our guides Panos and Olivier were very informative and kind and provided and great experience.
Went on holiday to Crete with family and wanted to experience a bit more of Cretes nature. The Safari was a great choice to do that, Panos our driver/Safari tour guide was very informative and knew a lot about history and nature. To get to Zeus of Cave it was a difficult climb especially in the heat but worth it once you get to the top with the gorgeous views. The cave was magnificent, so many stalactites and was actually bigger than I imagined and well lit. Would definitely recommend going on this Safari tour if you like caves and Greek mythology. Thank you Panos for making the tour an unforgettable experience.
Our guide Panos was great company and very knowledgeable giving us personal guided tours as we stopped at Kritsa plus mind blowing views from the plateaus. He filled us in on the Greek Mythology linked to places and is a great driver. The group was nice as small (4/6) in a good jeep and the trip bespoke - he even stopped to pick us fresh plums up in the mountains. The caves were stunning (good shoes or donkey) and the lunch at a local taverna was very enjoyable. Yammas! I would highly recommend this trip with Panos it was a real pleasure… eferisto :0)
Very well organised trip. Panos our guide was excellent. Full of knowledge and enthusiasm. Lovely taverna lunch with perfect Cretan hospitality. Highly recommended!
Hei, I'm the French woman who made the trip yesterday with the guide, Georges, a very nice and interesting guy, giving many useful information about nature, countryside and Cretan culture. I loved that trip and recommend it. It's really worthwhile ! A recommander. Thanks a lot for the day, Georges. Efkaristo ! Domi
We were picked up promptly at our resort by our wonderful driver, George. The vehicle was clean and comfortable and the car seat was all ready for our toddler. We had a great tour, seeing all the beautiful scenery and small towns and had quite a tasty lunch. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide!
Thank you to Olivier . We had a great day and informative tour. Lunch at the Greek tavern was lovely. Never felt rushed and able to take time to explain the area and take in the views. Highly recommend.
Thank you George for a fantastic informative Tour. We loved the day. Very comfortable Land Rover Discovery NOT like some other Jeeps. It was very comfortable . Beautiful mountain villages, especially the Platteau...Amazing views. Olive factory & Lunch & Wine included. Yes expensive but worth every penny €160 euro for 2 people,. Would recommend
It was amazing experience! I meet fantastic people and we had greatest trip! The driver Nikos was amazing host and guide. Even thought the heat was a bit heavy, we still managed to go up to see cave of Zeus, one couple used donkeys. But most important, we had fun and made nice memories.
Excellent trip with Christina very interesting. Lots of interesting information with every location. Would recommend highly.. Meal at taeiapxde Excellent.
We had private Day Tour to Zeus Cave and Lassithi Plateau with Adventure Crete Company. Our tourguide Petra was excellent driver and her knowledge about Crete was top level. Our lunch at local Taverna was unbeliaveble fresh and tasty. Breathtaking views on mountains and Lassithi Plateau.
This was a great tour with Danny. Saw many places and never felt rushed visiting any of them. It was a long day but parts of this tour are only accessible by 4WD so was well worth it. Lunch at local taverna was delicious and plentiful. Catered for all dietary requirements of our group. Danny’s English is not perfect but he is knowledgeable and a great character. We booked this directly through the hotel and max on tour would be 6.
We enjoyed this tour a lot. Our guide Nickolas was great! Extremely knowledgeable about many subjects. To counter the one review that complained about tickets being separate cost. No tour in Greece has the includes price of admittance for attractions. They are always separate. The tour price to me was good considering the distance you traveled, the safe driving through back roads and off road in a newer Land Rover, and the wonderful meal and wine provided at a taverna in a small village on a plateau. Warning, the hike to the Zeus cave was very difficult for those that are not in the best shape or older. It was well worth all the effort though. I recommend this tour and tour company.
Spinalong Island and Cave of Zeus are both well worth visiting as was the mountainous countryside we traversed and the villages we saw. HOWEVER, our guide/driver had only a halting understanding of English, he did not provide a commentary just answered questions that he knew and then only in general terms. Our main concerns were, 1. Even after parting with 84€ each, we still had to pay another 8€ each to get on Spinalong Island whilst our guide/driver stayed on the mainland, ie no guide to familiarise us with the structures and history of the island and its settlements just let us wander around! 2. We parted with another 6€ each to enter Diktaean Cave, the birthplace of Zeus. Again our guide pointed to the start of the 20 minute trek and remained behind drinking coffee! A little bit rich!
Fantastic day. We loved the boat ride to Spinalonga (be prepared to climb once on the island). Lots of history znd6 lovely views. We then went with the guide up the mountains to Krista, beautiful village, before going further into the mountains for lunch (where we tried goat, it was really good). We also saw the 1000 year old tree, and visited Zeus's cave (be prepared to climb). They had donkeys which you could hire to take you up the mountain and bring you back down (completely disagree with this. We saw a man about 20st sat on a poor donkey who was struggling in 32 degrees to take him up and down the mountain, if they are going to use them they should be restricted to children under 7). Our guide was very informative discussed at great length with my 14yr old Greek mythology
Unique experience as i said.real crete, not what hotels want to show you and in the end just stay inside:( we ve seen places I didn't even know was there. We tasted local wine, fruits and food full of taste & aromas. Cant say enough....you have to experience this unique kind of thing. Ahhh to not forget...jordan is THE Driver :) Many thanks to the team, hope to be with you soon enough.
To start, you have to go to the top of the mountain....avoid in case of high heat. Then you pay 15 euros to go down (and then back up) more than 200 steps, see a limestone cave, without much beauty, a small body of water, and that's it.
We had a truly memorable experience with the Safari Crete Experience! Today’s excursion to the Cave of Zeus and the Plateau of Katharos was perfectly organized and gave us the opportunity to get to know the authentic beauty of Cretan nature. The journey by jeep was fascinating, with impressive landscapes, while our guide Mr. Nikos was very friendly, professional and willing to share interesting information about the history, culture and traditions of the area. Each stand was carefully selected and offered unique images and experiences. If you are looking for a unique way to discover Crete beyond the ordinary, the Safari Crete Experience is a truly worthwhile option. We thank the whole team for the wonderful hospitality and the memorable day. We highly recommend it and would definitely do it again!
Absolutely fantastic! The views and nature you pass are magically beautiful and hard to beat. I especially have to give the guide a big compliment for his knowledge and enthusiasm and for being incredibly nice! An experience for all the senses that I highly recommend for those who want to experience Crete more personally!
We were traveling with Niko (our guide) and another person. Hotel pickup flawless, as arrangement by SMS. Niko is very gifted in language and told us a lot about the flora in the highlands. Overall an informative and varied tour.
Everything is perfectly organized. We have seen a lot of Crete. Our driver Georg reported so much interesting information about his home island during the trip and answered all questions in German and English entertainingly and informatively. Clear recommendation!
We booked the tour to Hell of Zeus. At the hotel in Agios Nikolaos we were picked up by Georges. It speaks very good German. A very nice tour around the eastern part (Lasithi) of Crete to explore the plateaus and traditional villages. We were not convinced of the Zeus cave. The subsequent lunch with wine was very delicious. Many thanks to Georges for the great information and a safe tour.
The trip was really nice. Our guide was really great. He showed us the herbs and fruits along the roadside and told us a lot about the area.
Beautiful day excursion in the hinterland with visit to the Cave of Zeus, goat milking, beautiful views of the island and very good meal
Super nice. We were the last visitors of the day. We made some beautiful pictures. That was the reward after the steep climb to the cave 😅 I recommend.
Was very nice and we saw a lot of the island. Nikos knows a lot and likes to show plants, triers and buildings. All that I expected from a field trip. Thank you so much!
We visited this cave with a 3 year old child, the cave is beautiful and perfectly accessible by a small path of about fifteen minutes, the price of entry remains correct.
Very well organized. Our guide Nikos is highly recommended! The tavern for our lunch very well chosen. Original Cretan cuisine without frills.
Beautiful well-paced day, discovering unmissable places in complete independence, a typical simple and generous meal, spontaneous discussions between the group and our guide, far from the comments dictated by the guides. Total disconnection, communicate in English with a group from all over the world. Nikos, very cultured, adapted to the group and his professional goals were discreet and without obligation to buy. To do if you like to discover, exchange and apprehend the Cretan spirit in such a short time.
