The travertines are formed by a multifaceted chemical reaction and subsequent precipitation of various causes and environments. Water springs from ground with high level of Calcium Hydrocarbonate at a temperature of 35.6 degrees C; and this causes carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide to evaporate and leave calcium carbonate to precipitate and form the travertine.
Hierapolis has been a settlement of different cults and cultures throughout history; and the city is believed to be founded by Eumenies II, the Attalid king of Pergamon at the end of 2nd Century BC; and to have been named after Hiera, the beautiful wife of Telephos, the legendary founder of Pergamon. We will explore Necropolis, Domitian Gate, Frontinus Street, Agora, North Byzantine Gate, Gymnasium, Fountain with Triton, Apollon Temple, Martyrium of St. Philip and bridge, Column Church, ruins of Plutonium, Latrina and Roman Baths.

A rainy day in Pammukale, but so fascinating nevertheless. Theater in Hierapolis was one of the most complete, and I thought the most beautiful in Turkey. The history of the site was brought to life by our guide, Vedat. Learning about the Pluotonium, the sacrifices and other activities at this special site, was a treat. The travertine terraces at Pammukale are huge. Note that the water flows only in some areas, not over the whole site, and you have take your shoes off to walk across the terraces. Watch out for slippery algae. I saw 2 people fall there.
Vedat was an outstanding guide in Pamukkale. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the history and culture. He made the tour engaging and gave us time to explore comfortably. His professionalism made the experience memorable. Highly recommend Vedat for anyone visiting Pamukkale!
We had a fantastic experience on our day tour of Pamukkale and Hierapolis. The itinerary was well-paced, giving us time to walk the travertines, soak in the views, and explore the ruins without ever feeling rushed. Our guide, Vedat, was absolutely brilliant – knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely funny. He kept us entertained throughout the day and even gave us a fascinating history of Turkey during the drive to Pamukkale, which added so much context to what we were seeing. Everything was well-organised, from the comfortable transport to the timing of stops. Highly recommend this tour – and if you get Vedat as your guide, you’re in for a treat!
We had a lovely guided tour by Vedat, he was knowledgeable and humorous. We did the day trip to Pemukale from Selcuk. Every thing was on time as stated. All in all a great trip.
Vedat told us a lot of stories regarding the history of Turkey and the places we were visiting. He allowed us time to enjoy Hierapolis and Pamukkale. We had a wonderful time. Definitely recommend.
Vedat was a great tour guide. He gave us a comprehensive historical background of Turkiye. He was also very helpful in guiding us through Pamukkale and Hierapolis, the highlights, and what parts we can explore on our own depending on our interests. Vedat is very cheerful and always was happy to answer any questions
Vedat was amazing guide we enjoyed a lot .I recommend him for everyone funny and knowledgeable .Pamukkale and hierapolis ancient city was amazing
The activity is well organised in a small group that the trip is designed to avoid visiting pamkku in peak hours. The lunch is also out of expectation. The guide is friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend this
Mel was our guide and I would give her 20 on a scale of told. She told us how she became a guide. At the age of 9, she lived near Ephesus in school holiday time and was curious why so many people were going there. So she just joined one group. Guards did not care as she was too young. When the tour ended, people started giving the guide tips. So this little girl thought "Oh, you can make money for just talking". So she went in the evening after the guides changed. And the next day and the next day. Then one of the guards noticed that this girl comes everyday and confronted her. Then, she proudly told the guard that she wants to become a guide and that is she keeps coming. Guards started letting her go and that is is how her guide training started at 9! That must be youngest trainee guide. All the guides have some proprietary and unique things to say. Now, she has joined many groups and she knows such proprietary things from many guides. She has visited the place since many years with many guides. She is passionate and very knowledgeable. Do ask questions about Turkish traditions. You will learn the things that you can learn nowhere. Passionate about her work, hospitality in her nature and impressively well mannered. As I said, I would give her 20 on scale of 1 to 10.
Kusadasi and the surrounding area was sensational but what really bought it to life was the stories and information provided by our young guide. Her university education, studying history and tourism was obvious as she described what happened and why. At each location, we were provided with her detailed and nuanced understanding of Turkish history. We don’t speak Turkish but her English was fantastic so we learnt and gained from her perspective. I highly recommend this tour and ask for Melike as your guide, if you can. She was also fun, generous and engaging.
We thoroughly enjoyed a memorable day trip to Pamukkale & Hierapolis with Mel from Apasas Travel. Mel was polite, attentive, and professional throughout the tour and was always making sure we got the most out of our day. Her historical knowledge was deep and insightful and she also took us to an excellent restaurant for lunch. At Pamukkale, Mel gave us exactly the right amount of time to explore the wonderful scenery by ourselves and at the Hierapolis ruins she really brought the Greek & Roman history to life. We would strongly recommend Apasas Travel and Mel to other travelers.
We made 2 tours with this agency. Our hotel was in Selcuk. Mel was an excellent guide and she was very kind. The drivers were also very good. Fírst tour was Ephesus: we liked everything. Second tour was Pamukkale: it took 3 hours from Selcuk to Pamukkale but the views and the experience in the white pools was amazing. Just an observation: lunch was good but not so delicious as lunch homemade of Ephesus tour. If you intend to spend more time at Pamukkale, it is better to stay in Denizili.
Pammukale was amazing, wish we can spend more time there. Melike, the tour guide took good care of the group with good knowledge of the destination. The buffet lunch was not bad but it is not as good as the lunch offered to the Ephesus tour. Hotel pick up as on time. Driver was very kind..
We enjoyed our day trip and Pamukkale was an amazing sight it was very busy, but I guess that is to be expected given its significance. We would have liked to hear more information from our guide during the trip there and back. 2.5 hours each way is a long time in the van and some interesting facts would have been appreciated.
What an amazing day!! My guide, Isik, and the driver arrived at my hotel promptly at 8am as arranged and we set off for Pamakkule. On the way, Isik pointed out many very interesting landmarks and was fun to talk to. She had a stop to a coffee shop along the way planned to break up the drive and so that I could use their facilities. The people at the coffee shop were very welcoming and after a lovely cup of coffee, we were back on our way. After arriving at Pamakkule, Isik gave me great tips on how to get the best experience there. She scheduled the trip so that we avoided most of the crowds which made it even better! After Pamakkule we walked over to Hieropolis. Isik was extremely knowledgeable and I enjoyed learning about the history as we made our way up to the theater. She also knows the best photo op locations and was happy to help me with photos😊 The ride back to the hotel was a pleasure as Isik is easy to talk to and the ride seemed like only minutes. Throughout the day, Isik was extremely accommodating and she made sure that my experience was the best it could be. The day was well thought out and tailored to my requests. This tour definitely exceeded all my expectations and I definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.
I went on a Pamukkale day tour from Selçuk and it was a great experience that exceeded my expectations! The guide, Vedat, was very kind, easy to explain and the tour went very smoothly. I had plenty of free time at Pamukkale's lime shelves and Hierapolis, and was happy to walk and photograph at my own pace. The lunch buffet was gorgeous and we enjoyed lots of Turkish food and desserts. The taste is delicious and I am very satisfied. The bus is also comfortable and clean. I was able to spend a long time without stress. I think the time allocation, the guidance, the food, everything is well balanced and you can enjoy it with peace of mind. If you're visiting Pamukkale, this tour is for you.
Good agency. We had a great time! Brand new vehicles and the Guide very prepared, awake and attentive to our needs
