As you pass by, take a moment to admire Kuşadası Castle, perched on Pigeon Island and surrounded by the shimmering waters of the Aegean Sea. Built during the Ottoman era for coastal defense, this historic fortress once protected the region from pirates and invaders, standing as a symbol of strength and resilience. Today, Kuşadası Castle is a cherished landmark that offers visitors a fascinating look into the town’s maritime history. Its breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and sea make it a must-see destination for those exploring the charm and beauty of Kuşadası.
As you pass through Kuşadası, uncover the rich history of the Öküz Mehmet Paşa Caravanserai, an Ottoman-era marvel built in 1618 as a vital trade hub for merchants traveling between the East and West. This impressive structure provided lodging and protection for traders and their goods, ensuring safe passage along bustling trade routes. With its grand arched entrance, robust stone walls, and elegant Ottoman architectural design, the caravanserai symbolizes the role of trade in fostering cultural exchange and economic growth during the empire's height. Today, it stands as a significant historic landmark, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past and Kuşadası’s heritage.
Ephesus, one of the best-preserved Greco-Roman cities, invites you to step back in time. Its ancient streets, still marked by chariot wheels, connect awe-inspiring landmarks. Marvel at the Great Theater, seating over 20,000 people, once echoing with gladiatorial battles and public events. Explore the Public Agora, where St. Paul preached and Anatolian handicrafts, celebrated for their quality, were traded. Stroll along Marble Street to the iconic Celsus Library, the ancient world’s third-largest library, renowned for its beautifully restored façade. Discover architectural gems like the Temple of Hadrian, Trajan Fountain, Domitian Temple—among the first temples dedicated to a human—and the Odeon, a venue for musical performances. Ephesus is a testament to the grandeur, innovation, and cultural richness of ancient civilizations, making it a must-visit destination in Turkey.
The House of the Virgin Mary, located near Ephesus, is a revered Christian pilgrimage destination, believed to be where the Virgin Mary spent her final days and was assumed into heaven. According to tradition, Apostle John brought Mary to Ephesus after the Resurrection of Christ, seeking refuge following the martyrdom of James and other apostles. Built on the foundation of her home, the church has been affirmed by visits from three popes: Pope Paul VI in 1967, Pope John Paul II in 1979, and Pope Benedict XVI in 2006. Their gifts to the shrine, displayed as symbols of its sacred importance, underscore its spiritual significance. This tranquil site offers a profound connection to Christian history and faith, continuing to inspire devotion among pilgrims and visitors from around the globe.
In the early centuries A.D., St. John the Evangelist lived in Ephesus, dedicating his life to spreading Christianity and teaching the message of Jesus. After his exile on the island of Patmos, where he authored the Book of Revelation, St. John returned to Ephesus, where he passed away and was buried by his disciples on the southern slope of Ayasoluk Hill. In the 6th century A.D., Roman Emperor Justinian honored St. John by commissioning the construction of one of Christendom's largest basilicas, directly over his tomb. This magnificent structure featured grand domes and intricate mosaics, symbolizing the devotion of early Christians. The Basilica of St. John became a major pilgrimage site, drawing faithful visitors from around the world. Today, it stands as a remarkable testament to the spiritual and architectural achievements of the Byzantine era.
The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was dedicated to Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt and moon. Built around 650 BC on a site sacred to Cybele, the Anatolian Mother Goddess, it was financed by King of Lydia and engineered on marshy ground to prevent earthquake damage. In 41 BC, Cleopatra’s sister, Arsinoe IV, was murdered here under Mark Antony’s orders. Though only columns and ruins remain, the temple’s legacy rivals the grandeur of the Parthenon. Here you will unveil how Christianity has shaped different religion in the area.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and covered St John's Basilica, The House of the Virgin Mary & Ephesus extremely well. We were back on time to the Sun Princess and shuttles between sites comfortable and air conditioned with good drivers. We enjoyed our lunch but had not expected to visit a carpet factory for lunch as the tour indicated it would be 'lunch in the countryside'. We would far prefer to have had lunch at the restaurant beside the House of the Virgin Mary. We also had not intended visiting a ceramics factory although it was interesting and made for a good toilet stop. All in all we enjoyed the experience. We would prefer to have been asked if we wanted to visit the carpet factory. We were not in the market for buying expensive carpets (as exquisite as they were) and would prefer not to have caused the obvious disgruntlement of the carpet factory owner
Yesra was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Kusadasi and Ephesus. The limo van was comfortable and the driver was savvy on the narrow, winding road. The tour took us to more places and experiences than we imagined -- the tomb of John the Baptist; the house of the Virgin Mary; the ancient ruins of Ephesus; Turkish pottery-making demostration; Turkish carpet-weaving demonstration; and delicious regional lunch at the carpet factory/school. Very highly recommended!
Very informative tour! Yesra is friendly, conversant and very knowledgeable! One of the best tour guides ever! Highly recommended!
We had Yesra and she was really great. Very knowledgeable, helpful and patient.
This is a great experience! Our tour guide was fantastic, and we had a very small group (6 people). The only "issue" was finding our tour guide once we got off of the ship. There were tons of names up on a board when you first got off the ship, but our name wasn't there. So, we had no idea where to find our guide. After looking around and asking several people, we were advised to look at Starbucks.........and sure enough, there was our tour guide.
Yesra was a fantastic guide. Loved hearing her knowledge of Ephesus. Her kind disposition and willingness to answer any and all questions. Gently keeping us on task and on time was a blessing! Enjoyed visiting with her! Best experience we have had this far
Yesta is so remarkable! Absolutely the best tour guide by far!!
Yesra was absolutely amazing!!! She is extremely knowledgeable!!!! We loved every minute and we highly recommend her!
We did the Ephasus tour with Yesra and had a great time! The carpet and pattery demonstrations were not a burden and I really enjoyed seeing Turkish products and how they are made. 😊
Loved it! Guide was warm friendly and knowledgeable. He was genuinely interested in answering our questions and tailor the experience to our interests.
Yesra did an AMAZING job. She was so courteous and took good care of us on the tour. She was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We were also provided an amazing meal after the tour to top things off and it was not just like a sandwich and chips, it was authentic Turkish food that was in a great atmosphere and tasted absolutely delicious! My partner is lactose intolerant and she was able to accommodate his needs. I would highly recommend taking this tour.
Yesra was a great guide - went out of her way to look after every person and detail. Excellent pacing of the sights and Yesra was very knowledgeable. Highly recommend this ‘Biblical Ephesus” tour - and try to get Yesra if you can.

Yesra was a wonderful guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable.
Yesra was an amazing guide. The time changed for our pick up and we didn’t have service but they still made sure we got with the group and didn’t miss anything
Yesra was an excellent guide! She was very informative and well paced tour to get through the busy sites. The small group was worth it; it was personal, informative church history and easy to navigate. Admission fee was by card.
Did not know exact meeting place. Looked for over 15 min . Called the cell phone provided and said service unavailable. Guide eventually called us back and said they were in Starbucks.
Yesra ledusvthru ancient epheta with spirit and cheerfulness we enjoyed the house of Mary and the basilicaca of John especially. Tough work for our guide in rainy weather making the walks risky but we saw it all
The tour was not informative by any means. The tour guide had very limited knowledge of the areas we visited and provided little meaningful information or historical context. It was a real shame, as the tour had the potential to be much more enjoyable and informative.
Yeliz was a wonderful tour guide. She is extremely knowledgeable, kind and helpful. She was very friendly and answered all of our many questions. She took us to all the sites we asked to see and went out of her way to accommodate us. We toured with our kids age 3 to 14 and she kept them entertained and happy the whole day. The meal was a traditional Turkish meal and tasted great. Even my picky daughter loved it.
The tour guide Yeliz was amazing! It was a great experience with the family getting to visit the ancient sites in Ephesus.
Having a private tour was the Best!! Yesra our guide got us to all of the sites at the right time so we missed the crowds. She guided us through so we understood the past and how that affects the present. The lunch was very good, ready and waiting for us. She was very informative and friendly and made our experience unforgettable.

Emphasis Tour with my beautiful wife and a fantastic guide Yesra. We learned a lot. The museum is awesome and air-conditioned.
Our tour guide, Yesra, was awesome! Really enjoyed learning about the area from a local. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to answer whatever questions we had. She informed us each step of the way and often provided times to explore on our own. There was transparency in the admission fees for each stop which we appreciated. We enjoyed learning about Turkish tiles from a generational business during a slight detour between 2 stops. Yesra also utilized her connections to adjust our itinerary based on occupancy which was helpful.
Yesra was an amazing tour guide! She was very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive to our needs. She explained things very well and provided ample opportunity to ask questions. I still can’t believe the price of the private tour - great value for the money. Very upfront about the entry fees for the different sites. The air conditioned, comfy van was a nice reprieve from the heat. Definitely wear non-slip shoes for visiting Ephesus. You will not be disappointed booking this experience!
Yesra was very knowledgeable and friendly. My favorite part was visiting the house of Mary. Bring paper and pen if you want to leave anything on prayer wall. It was a lovely adventure and we felt well taken care of.
Very informative and detailed. My guide Yesra is very good and knowledgeable. Wonderful experience.

Candas was an exceptional guide! He provided all the information and often back stories to complement. He was watchful of the temp and kept us placed well so we could fully enjoy the experience. Our driver, Feridun kept the car at the ready and the air flowing! Wonderful experience! Turkey was a delight- we felt safe the entire time!!
The experience was a 10/10! Yesra my tour guide was very knowledgeable and so kind. She reached out to my mom and I the day before our tour and communicated well so we wouldn’t be confused. She could answer all of my questions and made the tour very fun. I am a 23 year old and she was very engaging! I was able to learn a lot and take fun pictures. She knew when the best time to go to each site was so it wasn’t too crowded. It was €40 to get into Ephesus and the price was worth it for all of the facts Yesra gave us and the immersive museum. A great way to learn about the history and culture of Ancient Rome. We also got to go to a Turkish local rug making shop and pottery workshop. The van was very nice with charging ports and AC, Huseyin the driver was very nice and professional as well. The included food was SOOOO yummy as well.
Yesra was the most professional, personable and proficient guide. I really enjoyed the entire experience. Yesra had a command of the area’s history. She is among the top guides I have ever toured with
We had a great experience with Yesra. She is very knowledgeable and organized our tour in a way that was both convenient and comfortable. Her knowledge about the Christian history is amazing. I would totally recommend her.
