Itinerary
We will meet you at the Cruise Port! Once your tour is confirmed, we will promptly contact you with your personalised meeting time and exact pickup location, carefully planned according to your cruise ship’s arrival and departure schedule. After greeting our team at the port, you will begin your journey with a comfortable 1-hour drive to Ephesus. Along the way, your guide will share valuable insights about Turkey, the region, and what to expect during your tour.
The House of the Virgin Mary is one of the most important Christian pilgrimage sites, believed to be where Mary spent her final years after coming to Ephesus with John the Apostle. The shrine has been honored by several Popes, including Paul VI (1967), John Paul II (1979), and Benedict XVI (2006). Its discovery is linked to the visions of Anne Catherine Emmerich, a German nun who described the house in remarkable detail despite never having visited Ephesus. Her accounts, published by writer Clemens Brentano, inspired Father Poulin, a Lazarist priest from Izmir, to search for the site. In 1891, he found a small stone house that matched her descriptions perfectly, leading to archaeological studies and the preservation of the site we visit today.
The Ruins of Ephesus form Turkey’s largest open-air museum, showcasing extraordinary remains from the Greek and Roman eras. As you walk through this ancient city, you will see highlights such as the Senate Building, Ancient Hospital, Temple of Domitian, Nike Statue, Hercules Gate, Trajan Fountain, Temple of Hadrian, the iconic Celsus Library, and the Grand Theatre—along with many other remarkable structures that reveal the grandeur of Ephesus.
Artemis was the Greek goddess, the virginal huntress and twin of Apollo, who replaced the Titan Selene as Goddess of the Moon. The ancient temple was built around 650 BC to the cult of Artemis, was constructed on a site already sacred to the Anatolian Mother Goddess, Cybele. The temple was financed by the wealthy king of Lydia and the marshy ground was selected for the building site as a precaution against future earthquakes. During the time, it has been destroyed and collapsed many times due to the natural disasters.
We will pass through the charming town of Selçuk, giving you a glimpse of local life in this small community located right beside the Ephesus ruins.
You will also have the chance to explore authentic local handicrafts and, if you choose, enjoy a truly genuine shopping experience. Your professional local tour guide will be by your side to offer valuable insights—highlighting the finest traditional crafts, recommending the most reputable places to visit, and providing expert tips to ensure a smooth, enjoyable, and completely hassle-free experience.
In the end of our tour, we will hit the road back to Izmir and drop you. Please note that the pick-up & drop-off places; Izmir Cruise Port, Izmir Airport, and Izmir Centerally located Hotels. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you join this tour from Izmir Cruise Port, or from Airport, OUR TOUR OFFERS YOU GUARANTEED ON-TIME RETURN!

This private tour was exactly that...a private tour for just myself and my husband with a driver and a guide. Zik was so knowledgeable with history and was able to guide us away from the busload of tours so that our visit to the sites went seamlessly. Stopped for a quick lunch, spent time at a rug factory as well. He also took great photos for us! We were traveling by cruise ship but booked this on our own. Got us back in a comfortable amount of time for reboarding the ship. Definitely recommend!!
We booked our tour through Viator with no problems. The communications were very good throughout and we knew we would be picked up and dropped off at the port. Our guide, Josh was waiting for us and led us through the day showing consideration for the pace and displaying an endless knowledge for both Turkey and Ephesus. He sorted out our lunch stop, that wasn't included, and got us safely back to the ship. The day couldn't have been any better, thanks Josh.
We had a lovely private tour in Ephesus with Fatima. She was wonderful and went above and beyond to explain the culture, and sights that we were seeing. Fatima thoughtfully arranged the day so that we would miss the crowds and never had to wait in line. Since it was a private tour, we were able to decide which places to visit and which we would skip. I would highly recommend booking a tour with Fatima for a memorable tour and personal experience.
josh was a great guide transportation was excellent and the food and sites were great thank for your service
A fantastic tour with Peri suited to our needs. Highly recommended. Peri was very knowledgeable and attentive.
Ruins at Ephesus were spectacular. Tour guide was great but talked just a bit too much. Mary’s house was underwhelming and somewhat commercialized.
Josh was a fantastic guide. We enjoyed our excursion from Izmir. He took us to a beautiful farm to table lunch where we bought handmade rugs. The leather factory was also great.
Josh was an outstanding tour guide! He gave us the perfect mix of history, culture, and amazing local food while introducing us to local artists and small businesses. He was incredibly flexible, tailored the day to our interests, and made the experience feel personal. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide—highly recommend!
Great tour that we booked as a shore excursion. Highly recommend to anyone coming into port and who wants to see everything! Our guide Ozzy was particularly awesome. Very knowledgeable and accommodating. We would definitely book again and are already considering bringing the kids back to Turkey to explore more.
No problems with meeting our driver at a crazy airport with a difficult language barrier. Clean, comfy car, corteous driver.
Fatima was very knowledgeable and nice! We beat the crowds and got to experience everything beautifully! The tour was to our own pace and very easy to navigate to meeting point.
Fatima did an amazing job. We learned so much about the places we visited. Though the weather wasn’t great, but we had great time and unforgettable experience. And we came back on time on our cruise ship.
Our tour guide Fatima was a great tour guide of the private tour of the Epheseus. She was very knowledgeable of the history of all the places we went to.
An amazing tour. Highly recommended! The tour guide went above and beyond to accommodate our requests during the tour.
Overall experience was great, we had a very good time, very good explanations of the site, with enough time to see all the highlights. Ozzy was an excellent guide, he gave us time in all stops and he knows a lot.
We had a fabulous tour off of our cruise ship! Canan and Ahmed were wonderful and really took good care of us. We went to Mary’s house, the Basilica of St. John, and the Temple of Artemis. Highly recommend!
Mehmet Kadir was very nice and helpful, he knows a lot about the place and took us a lot of nice fotógraphs, we highly recommend him if you want to know efesus
I had a fantastic time. All for the history was on beautiful display. Our guide made connections to ancient times and now. I would recommend Ismail he provided a talior made experience for our group. He made everything interesting and tangible
Tour company was accommodating and easy to get in touch with! There was an issue scheduling and they were very helpful. 🙏
The tour had everything to be great (nive guide, trasportation from the hotel, lunch in a local place and duration) BUT we visited Ephesus in a rush (a little bit more than 1h30), didnt see the terrace houses and other interesting elements as the guide seened to be in a rush to see the artemis temple and then do a quick stop at a carpet and a leather shop. Actually The artemis was simple and done in 10 minutes, and then we spent more time in the shops that were made for you to buy. The leather shop had a fashion show and the average price was 800 USD! And the carpets were ariund 2000 USD: not something you buy out of the blue abd definetly I didnt want to rish through ephesus for that. After we realised what happened we felt used and that the tour was unfair: they could have given us the choice. Watch out, after talking to other tourists who have done the same tour with other companies, the same happened. Watch out. By the way, we spent more than 70€ for each one, 270€ in total. Too expensive for getting a rush visit through the main attraction.
We had a wonderful time on this tour thanks to Fatima and Ismail. Ismail coordinated and organised everything for us including the pickup from our hotel in Izmir. Fatima was our tour guide for the day and she was amazing. Her warmth and pleasantness along with her knowledge made the tour even more special. The tour included a visit to the House of Mother Mary, Ephesus, Lunch, visit to a local Leather Wholesaler and an Arts and Craft Centre. Fatima paced the tour really well. We thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Ephesus is a must see if you are visiting Turkey. It is fascinating from a historical perspective and set against a hilly and green countryside, it is quite spectacular. Fatima and Ismail organise great tours and I highly recommend anyone visiting Turkey and looking for organised tours to book with them. Thank you Fatima for a wonderful and memorable day. We will truly cherish these memories.
We were looking for a small tour; semi private tour that would be personal and informative and we found it! Ismail was our tour guide and he was full of useful cultural and historical knowledge but at the same time not overwhelming us. The van was very comfortable as well. Ismail took us to a special local restaurant that did not disappoint and was a better experience than the usual tour buffet stops.
Me and my friends had a great day learning about Ephesus ruins. Ismail was a very helpful, kind and very informative tour guide. We loved the small personalised group size and also loved the lunch at a local restaurant.
Best tour with superb insights on the ruins of Ephesus. Well coordinated with a mix of humour and history. Loved the buffet lunch as well.
Fatima was very helpful from the beginning. I had lots of questions to ask about the sites to which she was polite and answered. Bus was comfortable, pick up was on time. She gave us lots of time to explore the sites and things weren’t rushed. Fatima is highly recommended!
Sometimes you just want all things to be taken care off! Ismail has arrange a day tour in most effective manner, right from pick up to Ephesus Tour, Traditional food to amazing handicraft your to adorable Fashion show. To begin with we got a reminder call about your explaining all the details a day before, and next day, right on time he was there to pick us up in most clean and luxury car. During the tour he explained in detail about Roman, Greek and Anatolian culture from 4th century BC to 14 century AD. He gave enough time to click picture and enjoy the view, after that he took us to traditional lunch which was fantastic. Tour ended with knowledge in local handicraft like carpet weaving and leather jacket fashion show.
While spending some time in Istanbul in October/November, 2018, I decided to travel to Ephesus for a one-day tour. Some friends who own a travel company in Istanbul arranged this for me through Fatma with Discover Ephesus Travel. Fatma and the shuttle bus driver for the day were very professional, punctual and pleasant. She was sharing with me and the group with whom I joined for the day about her background and education in the travel & tourism industry. It was a most enjoyable tour, and I left feeling as if we had seen everything possible for that particular tour. I would very highly recommend Discover Ephesus Travel for a tour of sites throughout Turkey.
Our small group recently spent a day in Ephesus. Our tour guide was a bright, energetic young lady named Fatima, of Discover Ephesus Travel. She was a fount of information and enthusiastic about her job. I'm sure she has done this many times, but she never seemed tired or bored in communicating the information we needed to fully soak in the history of this area. I believe that she had done research on her own and she was able to offer us more than one opinion or perspective on the history of the area and its restoration. I would highly recommend her and this company for tour services.
Great excursion with Selim. Saw and learned a lot! Super tour! Very competent! recommended!
Hiring a tour to the almost private comfort is the best because they take care of every detail, it is worth excellent and the guide Josh, I do not know much English and we understood with the translator, was very friendly.
It was, without a doubt, one of the best stops of the cruise The Library is simply spectacular, just for that it is worth the trip Highly recommended
We were a small group to visit the Ephesus area and Fatima was very nice and relevant. She also speaks good English. The sights are also impressive. I recommend.
Ephesus is very impressive, the site is very extensive with a significant density of remains. The speakers were very pleasant, both the drivers and the guide. They made sure that everyone in the group felt comfortable throughout the visit.
