Nestled on a hillside near Ephesus, this peaceful stone house is one of the most revered Christian pilgrimage sites. According to tradition, the Virgin Mary spent her final years here with St. John the Apostle, who brought her to Ephesus after the crucifixion of Jesus. Over the centuries, the site has welcomed countless pilgrims — including Pope Paul VI (1967), Pope John Paul II (1979), and Pope Benedict XVI (2006), each of whom visited and blessed the shrine. The story of its discovery is just as remarkable. A German nun, Anne Catherine Emmerich, described the house in vivid detail in a vision, despite never having visited Ephesus. Years later, French priests followed her descriptions and uncovered the remains of this very structure. Today, visitors can explore the beautifully preserved house, light a candle, and leave a wish in this serene and deeply spiritual place.
The Temple of Artemis – One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World Dedicated to Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt and the moon, twin sister of Apollo, this magnificent temple stood as a symbol of faith, beauty, and wealth in ancient Ephesus. Originally built around 650 BC on a site sacred to the Anatolian Mother Goddess Cybele, the temple was funded by King Croesus of Lydia, one of the richest rulers of his time. Ingeniously, it was constructed on marshy ground to help protect it from earthquakes — though over the centuries, natural disasters repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt the structure. Despite its ruins today, the Temple of Artemis remains a place of awe — a reminder of Ephesus’s ancient grandeur and its deep spiritual heritage.

Had a fantastic tour with Ozzy. Knowledgeable and personable, he gave us great information. Was very patient with some of our mobility challenged people
The guide Ozzie was great and Ephesus is a wonderful site. We did not like going to the rug place. Too much time wasted trying to sell us a rug. That part was disappointing.
Fantastic tour by Ozzy! He was very knowledgeable, professional and nice! One of the best tours ever! We never felt rushed or unsafe. We had a delicious lunch too!
Ozzy is a wonderful tour guide . We enjoyed and learned so much from this trip with him. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I wish many more people could come to his tour.
Nilay was amazing! She was so knowledgeable about her country about and Ephesus. The ruins were in bigger and better than ewe imagined. She took many pictures of us. We highly recommend her and this tour to anybody that comes to. Turkey you
She will take you to buy rugs and jewelry even when you tell her no She took my phone and tried to write her own review
We were with Josh for 6 hours plus seeing the sights of Ephesus.. He is very knowledgeable regarding the history and customs of the city. Plus, he’s polite and delightful! Along with visiting historical sites we also paid short visits to a rug manufacturing and leather shop. Very informative regarding how the products are made and very low pressure to buy. Also had a delightful lunch of traditional Turkish food (vegetarian in our case).
Ismael/Josh provided great historical background. We were a party of 4 in a generous Mercedes Sprinter van. We visited Ephesus, Terrace houses, Mary’s house, Bascilica of St John. We saw the chamber of commerce sponsored Turkish rug weaving demonstration, had a lovely meal with local dishes adjusted to our dietary desires (reasonably priced), and ac demonstration/fashion show at a high end leather jacket store. We had an amazing day without high press ure sales men. I highly recommend this tour guide and his company, bestturkeytours.com!
Ozzy was very friendly knowledgable professional tour guide, we had wonderful time EPHSUS, thank you very much
Peri was a great guide for our private tour of Ephesus and the surrounding area. We had our mother with us who has mobility limitations, and Peri adjusted the tour to accommodate her. She is very knowledgeable of Turkish history and the area and kept us entertained the entire time. We highly recommend her as a tour guide.

This was a fantastic tour. Our guide, Canan was super helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Our trip was smooth, and paced well. We enjoyed a traditional lunch and rug shop cooperative.
The tour of the ruins at Ephesus was definitely the highlight of our trip. We had Nyla as our guide and she was amazing! Nyla shared her knowledge of, not only Ephesus, but also of the area of Turkey we were traveling in. Our small group consisted of just the 5 of us, and we had a great time at the ruins, and with Nyla. In addition to the ruins at Ephesus, we also visited a Turkish rug factory, a leather shop, and a Turkish store selling coffees, teas, lotions, oils, and Turkish delights! We also enjoyed lunch together at an outside cafe. I would highly recommend this small group tour of Ephesus. We had a great day in Turkey!
What a fantastic day with Nil. Excellent explanations and gave me so much more than just what we saw. Definitely worth it to get lunch and to find out about food culture also.
We had a wonderful experience with Josh as our guide. He was very informative and spoke very good English. He was able to cater to our wants. We ordered as a group but we were the only ones in the group which made it very personalized. Food was amazing too. The crowd was very minimal which gave us a great experience overall.
Josh was an excellent and very enjoyable guide, extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. We had a great time and I learned a lot. We traveled from Istanbul and everything was very well organized and very professional. Highly recommend.
Very entertaining and factual tour. Our tour guide Ozzy was excellent and explain things in detail. He was easy to understand and there was nothing lost in translation. This was our 1st trip in Turkey and by far the best on our cruise. Much thanks to trip advisor for employing his services and representing the establishment.
Canan is our tour guide. She was amazing and she tailored tour programs according to us and our baby. Highly recommended
We had a great time! Highly recommend Canan!
Josh did a great job! Will highly recommend this tour.
Booked with Ozzy. Great history lesson and cultural experience.
We booked this tour through Viator and were picked up right at our ship, the Sun Princess. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and informative, with plenty of fun stories that kept us interested throughout the excursion. We saw the ruins at Ephesus and Mary's House, exactly as promised. After touring the ruins, we stopped for lunch right next to a rug factory. I had read about other cruisers' adventures at carpet factories, but we didn't mind this one — we learned a little about how the rugs are woven and the tremendous time invested in making them, and this part of the tour had been disclosed ahead of time. It was a nice 45-minute diversion, and the shop even provided drinks for everyone. We didn't buy a rug, and I don't believe anyone else in our group did either. Personally, we would need a lot longer than 45 minutes to part with the kind of money these rugs cost! Afterward we ate in an adjoining area, where they served a nice lunch at €20 per person. So far, so good — but then we were driven to Mary's House, which seemed way overrated and crowded: hundreds of tourists and dozens of buses in a small area, and we didn't even visit during high season. By now I was looking forward to the end of the tour, which was already in its fifth hour. Perhaps that made me angrier that the final stop was another sales event, this time at a large leather store and factory. We were all ushered into a room with seating around a catwalk. The room darkened and a video about the leather store started. When it ended, a door opened, the lights came up, and a fashion show began. The products looked nice, but we had no intention of doing any leather shopping that day, and I resented spending about an hour of our time at this location. After this we boarded the bus again and were brought to a store selling Turkish delight. They had a generous table set up with free samples, and some were quite good. But you can buy Turkish delight literally everywhere in Turkey for €3–5 a box — this store was selling it for €14 a box! In our group of 19 people, only a single box was bought. Finally, we were driven back to port, where, with the little time left before boarding, we briefly browsed the area shops. Instead of the advertised 5-hour timeframe, our total trip lasted 7 hours. We would love to have our time back from these unexpected shopping ventures, and to have spent it exploring the town instead.
Josh was a funny and well informed guide. He explained everything in detail with all of our questions answered. I would definitely choose his group again. The amount of time at each event was perfect.
