Very eye opening walk through the e waste site. The guide teamed up with one of the fellows who works inside the site, so that we got a very insiders look. he introduced each of the repair, reuse, deconstruction or other activities, explaining each. Then we took a walk through the community which was also very eye opening. All in all, a very active, and socially worthwhile morning.

Up close experience of recycling operation of discarded electronics, down to the copper, iron and aluminum metals. Includes walk through the community’s markets and neighborhoods. Eye opening. Terrific guide Mohammed who lives and works there. Viator guide Sadick was also great. Highly recommend.
Humbling and eye opening experience. We were amazed at the amount of material that is generated and how it is reused.
Toufic was terrific, and an excellent guide. I was pleased to learn about Ghana's electronic sustainability; one man's trash really is hundreds of others' treasure/livelihood. Wear closed-toed shoes! Be prepared to feel the privilege of the life you live by the end. I was able to buy groceries at the market and stock up on much-needed water at the end of the tour. I was picked up right at my hotel, and the air conditioning in the vehicle felt great! We were met by a kind local man who showed us his world; he never stopped helping everyone around him really showcasing what community is all about! While I have seen poverty before I was surprised to see the frank difference just a few miles can make between different groups. I really learned about electronics, the importance of recycling, what true happiness means to people, and how to navigate a tight market. I was very pleased with Toufic’s knowledge of the area and wish I had booked more! It took about 3 hours, and by the end I needed a shower, to journal, and to think about how I wanted to use this information to recognize how blessed my life is.
This e-waste tour is a must-see. I had mixed feelings about walking around as a tourist while witnessing the harsh reality of the people working and living in this neighborhood, but it was very educational. It made me reflect on our overconsumption and 'throwaway mentality' in Europe, as well as my own role in it. The two guides (one of whom was from the community itself) were wonderful. They were friendly, made me feel safe, and were happy to answer all my questions.
The flexible and well-organized tour left a lasting impression on us. We can highly recommend it to anyone who wants to gain insights beyond classic tourist activities and broaden their horizons.
It is an impressive experience to see where all the electronic waste finally is dumped but also what people make out of it. If you are around you should really make this excursion.
So many things to discover there. Great insights and the pure reality about the tough life of the people in this „little town“. You will be definitely touched by this experience.. authentic honest local guides. I would say it is safe to go there in the morning with the guides - would not recommend tondo it alone on your own.
Everybody should see this! A truly mind blowing experience and a strong reminder of why we all need to scale down drastically on consumerism. Our guide was really good - also the local guide was great.
Sadiq and Awal were friendly and explained how people live and work in Agbogbloshie very well. Impossible to see this neighbourhood and the e waste recycling without their guidance.
I have a mixed feeling about this tour. We had three guides withus, Awal and Nunu were INCREDIBLE! Awal helped a lot in coordinating local people for our filming and did a great job guiding us in the dumpsite. Nunu was energetic and extremely friendly. He made us feel at home and helped to translate the local language to English so that everyone can understand. However, the other guide, Sadick didn't meet our expectation by afar. His English was not very clear, neither was he being helping during our filming. He looks always rushy and somehow grumpy. On the second day, we were supposed to close at 4 pm as discussed, but he started to rush and even yell at us at 3:30. He claimed that we wasted a lot of time which in fact he is the one who led us to a restaurant where the service was so slow that we wasted about 1 hour. 5 stars for Awal and Nunu, I star for Sadick.
I had read about Agbogbloshie in a new book called "Waste Wars," what happens to electronics and appliances from the West? Much of it ends up in Accra to be taken apart for the metals. People work hard to get anything of value and burn the plastic. The workers live across the river, and we walked through the neighborhood - though poor, it is a vibrant community, and I'm glad this tour exists.
Sadik & Mohamed were great tour guides. They made me feel at ease & were highly knowledgeable. This is a great experience to learn about the world we live in and the environmental impact we leave on earth.
The Tour was an eye-opening experience that I will never forget. This tour isn't just about witnessing the stark realities of waste management; it's a profound journey into the heart of environmental issues that affect our planet. From the moment we arrived, our guide shared insightful stories about the history of the landfill and the impact of e-waste on local communities. I was particularly struck by the resilience of the people working at the landfill, finding ways to recycle and repurpose materials that many would consider worthless. The tour also emphasized the importance of awareness regarding the global waste problem, especially concerning electronic waste. Seeing first-hand the scale of the landfill was both shocking and motivating. It served as a powerful reminder of our role as consumers and the need for responsible practices in our daily lives. If you are looking for a tour that not only educates but also inspires action towards sustainability, I highly recommend this experience. It’s a vital step towards understanding the global implications of waste and the importance of caring for our environment. A must-do when in Accra! know!
This was a very eye opening tour and important experience to understand the e-waste and recycling process in Accra. Toufic and the other guides took great care of me and my family and it was obvious they really cared for the community. It was not an easy reality to be confronted with but I would recommend the tour.
Toufic (and Mohamed Awal) is a really great guide and the e-waste tour itself is highly recommended. It's an incredibly unique and shocking experience that can be difficult to come to terms with but I believe it to be necessary for everyone to understand better. Through all the chaos, they also give you a glimpse of the everyday lives of the warm people who live and work on the site - it's truly worth taking the time to visit.
As a foreigner who has visited Ghana dozens of times and deeply loves the country, this tour was truly shocking. It starkly illustrates how the global challenge of electronic waste disposal has disproportionately burdened this small district. At the same time, it reflects Ghana’s internal "North-South divide," where poverty is heavily concentrated in the northern regions. The people living and working in this area are striving hard to make a living, and thanks to their efforts, security is well maintained. However, this environment is far from suitable for human habitation. With adequate funding and technology, electronic waste recycling could be conducted in a proper and safe setting. Moreover, the responsibility for managing such waste should lie with the "developed countries" that produce it. Additionally, if economic development in the northern regions progresses, people would not need to migrate south in search of work. This tour offers a meaningful opportunity to witness these contradictions firsthand. The guide was thoughtful and considerate, making the experience both insightful and valuable.
One of the most impressive experiences I have ever had! Toufic is an amazing guide who is an expert in his profession and a very nice and welcoming person. I got many interesting insights with a lot of valuable background information. A big advantage is the flexibility of your pickup time and the transfer from your hotel and back to the desired destination. I can highly recommend this tour.
It was a unique experience, albeit very expensive for 2 hours. In addition to the tour operator's guide, you are accompanied on site by another guide who lives right next to the e-waste dump (also known from ‘Welcome to Sodom’). This guide is a bit border-crossing and exhausting. The tour provider himself also warned me that he would try to get my phone number, for example, in order to ask me for money later. He also kept interrupting the tour operator's guide. Apart from that, it was a fantastic experience; the tour operator's guide was friendly, very knowledgeable and did everything to make sure I had a pleasant experience.
I enjoyed the tour most of all interactions with the people of the community. Most of all, I apperiate the support of my tour guides Mr. Toufic and Mr. Mommhemnd.
great insightful tour, meeting the people who livelihood depends on this site. Seeing the community and how the place is organised, operates with support network. I felt safe throughout and not too intrusive interfering with people everyday working lives. Both my guides were very good.
Incredible experience. Very humbling. Aweisu was an amazing guide. Not an overly long tour, you basically get driven to the site and spend an hour or so being walked through Agbogbloshie seeing some of the working and living areas.
Highly recommend this incredible and insightful tour into the growing challenge of electronic waste. Our tour guide Taufic and the indomitable Awal showed us both sides of this challenge and as we explored we understood more about the community and the people that have carved out a living here and we could see the economic innovation everywhere. So much to understand and learn from our knowledgeable guides - an experience never to be forgotten. Thank you both for creating this opportunity for others to learn from. Warmest wishes.
very eye-opening experience,, the tour guides and the local resident guides were very hospitable and also gave very detailed explanations of every inch of the area. 10/10 recommend
i felt safe amd the guides took their time. eye opening to see how the residents live. the people are friendly amd insurprised to see mosques
Such an eye-opening trip seeing this part of Ghana, which I think not most travellers chose to go. I had an opportunity to see how these so called scrappers dealers processed a tradeable metals from literally pile of electronic junks. It was quite bizarre to see how massive and large the waste accumulated to the point it becomes a mountain-like figure. Taufiq was very informative and such a high energy guide to travel with. Highly recommend this trip for those of you who concern about environmental change. Ps. Wear tough shoes
Increased amounts of E-waste should be a global concern. Developing countries see e-waste as a potential source of valuable materials, leading to efforts to recover and reuse components from discarded electronics, but this is not always done with adequate safety measures. Open burning and dumping may cause harm to the public health, and the environment. This visit was an eye-opener about the extent and severity of the problem. I truly recommend this visit.
Hard and a strong experience, a different picture to understand better the way where we are going and try to turn in a different green mindset. #thinktwice when u're buying a new elect devices.
This tour was amazing. By far one of the most important tourist tours I've ever taken. Really eye-opening. Also the guide Toufiq was fantastic. I recommend this tour to everyone.
This was a deeply disturbing and much-needed tour for anyone who consumes electronics - the impact we have on not just the environment but also livelihoods, communities becomes damningly apparent. Kudos to our amazing guides Kobe and Awal, the latter of whom is a star of the film Welcome To Sodom.
The tour to Agbogbloshie with Toufic and Awal is something I would recommend to everyone interested in the global waste challenge, environmemtal issues and social justice. It is eyeopening, disturbing and educating at the same time. Toufic and Awal answers all your questions, and have a lot of knowledge. It is amazing to see how people work to reuse and get as much as possible out of every electronic item ending there, but at the same time the health hazzard and environmemtal problems are obvious. Let us work together to make a helthier, just and sustainable global system for waste management, and start with taking a walking tour at Agbogbloshie.
It was a good experience. It allows you to get a good perspective on where your trash goes and why we need to focus on solid waste recycling.
Unique and insightful experience. Toufic and Mohammad were really knowledgeable about local life and shared a lot of information based on their experience. The tour appears to have been well received by the local community, so I was not made to feel unwelcome by the locals.
This tour is an opportunity to see a fascinating, if at times harrowing, aspect of the city and its people. It should be a must-see/do for anyone visiting Accra to learn about this site and the community living there and working hard to make a living from waste (much of it coming from Europe!) Toufic and Koby, and especially their connection at the site, are knowledgable about the place, people and craft and their enthusiasm helps to make this an unforgettable experience. Toufic and Koby are also great sources of knowledge about the city and offering other tour experiences there and around Ghana. Thanks both!
Unforgettable experience. Toufic and Mohammad were the perfect guides through this site and made sure we were not being intrusive. To understand how waste circles around the globe, you must see this place if you have a chance.
This was my first trip in Ghana with tripadvisor. It was smooth and fulfilling. The guides were knowledgeable and welcoming. Agbogbloshie is a must-see when visiting Accra. Shows a different aspect of the lives of internal and foreign migrant workers. The trip promises a humbling experience. Suitable for solo travellers, even females. Book the tour in peace!
Fascinating and shocking at the same time. Unique experience. Great local guide who showed me corners that would I have never seen otherwise.
We booked a tour of the Abogbloshie e-waste site in Accra worth Ghanamustgo tours, because of how the place is it’s not really possible to see it without a guide and our guide Toufic was brilliant, very knowledgeable, really interesting guy too. It’s hard to describe Abogbloshie, it’s a waste dump but there is a nice community there trying to survive making money from breaking down and recycling old cars, fridges, tvs etc, and many people there were very welcoming. This is the most interesting tour we have been on in Ghana, it’s a hard dangerous and what people do to survive there and you get to see that up close with good explanations. Toufic and his local connection there really showed us many sides of the community that has built up there. Highly recommend doing this tour if you are visiting Accra.
Amazing day with Toufic. Pickup on time, despite the maze of Accra's traffic we had plenty of time in the bustle of the Agbogbloshie community. An incredible, fascinating place. A must-see!
Great guide, was on time, gave a lot of Information and was very reliable. It was impressive to see how hard life and work in Agbogbloshie is
I got to experience the entire recycling process as well as conduct interviews with some of the stakeholder involved
Fabulous tour and an absolute must for any Ghana visitor. The tour guide is knowledgeable and respectful. Car super clean. A pleasure in all aspects. Will surely be back for more!
Toufic’s tour of Accra was a highlight of my trip to Ghana. Toufic is knowledgeable about all the local customs and makes his guests feel safe and welcomed with his fun going personality. He took us to top sites in Accra like the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Flagstaff House and the Makola Market. One of my fondest memories of Accra was strolling around Makola Market. It's a great way to experience life as a local. If you are visiting Ghana I highly suggest hiring Toufic as your guide!
It was incredibly intense and interesting. Since someone is there who lives and works there, it was an up-close experience, very stirring and stays with you for a long time. It is 100% recommended and is worth the price.
On the last day I went to the worst region I have seen so far in my life. I saw “WELCOME TO SODOM” and had to see it with my own eyes. Agbogbloshie, with over 40,000 people, at 1600 ha the largest dump in Africa, a huge slum. Western problems are simply a joke and shameful when you see this situation. How arrogant, selfish and ignorant ours sometimes is; we are to blame for all this misery, for it is also our garbage! Small children are struggling to survive here, because the deadly danger is the biting smoke from the burned plastic. Hungry for security, normality and joy simply deprived of a normal childhood. Indescribably terrible pictures. Pictures that stay, that burn themselves in. Unforgettable and humble. I would like to thank Toufic, who led me to and through this really impressive place, and Mohammed Awal, one of the protagonists of WELCOME TO SODOM. We'll keep in touch. I take something back from Agbogbloshie and I am very grateful for that. I know for myself what's really important in life.
