Itinerary
Upon arrival, our first stop will be a travelers pick-up location. We'll then proceed to Kakum National Park. The highlight awaits as we explore the canopy walkway, suspended 30 meters (98 feet) above the forest floor, featuring seven suspended bridges.
Following the adventure at Kakum, our historical exploration continues with a visit to the Cape Coast Slave Castle. This site holds profound significance, and our guides will provide insightful narratives to enhance your understanding of this historical landmark.
The Slave River (Donkor Nsuo) On the way to the coastal dungeon, the slave merchants stopped at Donkor Nsuo, known as "the slave river," in Assin Manso. This location held significant importance in the journey of captured Africans. Recuperation and Preparation Captured Africans were allowed to recuperate at Donkor Nsuo after their long and arduous journey. During this period, they were well-fed and rested for several days or weeks. The merchants knew that by ensuring the captives appeared healthy and strong, they could guarantee higher prices at the markets.

The tour to Cape coast castle and Assin manso slave river is an experience for all of African heritage to experience. It's a great learning opportunity and I thank everyone involved in preserving this part of our history, so generations later I can experience it. We did not get to Kakum national park. This was due to accidents on the road an ongoing road upgrade and rain. So even though I was sad about missing that part of the tour I understand. I thank Adjei for a great day. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of Ghana with us.
I loved this tour however the day could be longer than expected due to traffic and road conditions. Our tour guide was excellent and our driver was awesome. The Castle, the River and buffet lunch was an excellent experience.
The tour guide and driver was a pleasant experience. They were willing to answer any questions we may have. They were attentive and knowledgeable. They were prepared for any issues or stops. Only issue I had was they were late. Traffic was the issue but almost an hour late. No true bathroom along the way so use the restroom before leaving. The ride to Cape Coast Castle from Accra was about 4 hours. Its a long trip. Since it was only two of us, they had us in a smaller vehicle. Just wish it was more roomy and the air was super cold instead of hit or miss. But overall, I would book again with them and I felt safe, even though we were frequently stopped by police as a standard coming back to Accra. Its a all day experience and wear pants if you can. It was emotional but enlightening. I really enjoyed and plan to bring more family and friends in the near future.
The service was excellent and the story was sad what our forefathers went through
It was nice experience and I enjoy it as well with the history
Had an amazing time exploring Ghana’s Central Region. The experience was memorable from start to finish, and everything was well organized. Highly recommend GhanaPeople Tour to anyone looking for a great way to experience the beauty, history, and culture of Ghana!
I had no clue on how to make African food, I was a bit sceptical about this , either getting it right or wrong .. but to my surprise , I did amazing. It was a great experience.
Great service, and the tour guide was exceptional. I highly recommend it!
Very great experience . Thanks to barimah
The tour was powerful, emotional, and beautifully organised. Cape Coast Castle and Assin Manso were deeply moving, while Kakum’s canopy walk was a thrilling and adventurous touch.
As a first-time visitor from South Africa to Ghana, this trip was nothing short of life-changing. Exploring the Central Region, especially Cape Coast, left a deep and lasting impression on me. One of the most powerful moments of the trip was visiting the Cape Coast Castle, a historical site tied to the tragic transatlantic slave trade. Walking through its dark dungeons and hearing the stories shared by the guide was an emotional and humbling experience. It's a place everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime to understand and reflect on our shared history.
Our visit to Cape Coast Castle and Assin Manso Slave River was a deeply moving and unforgettable experience. Everything was well organized and planned by Adjei, who made sure we had the time to truly connect with the history of these places. Standing at the castle and learning about its past was emotional, and visiting the Slave River gave us an even deeper appreciation of our heritage. Adjei was patient, professional, and made the journey smooth from start to finish. I highly recommend him for anyone looking to explore Ghana’s history with respect and understanding.
We visited Kakum National Park and the Slave Castle, but my favorite was definitely the canopy walkway at Kakum. It was an incredible experience. If you’re afraid of heights, though, this one might not be for you.
Although it was a sad time, I had the privilege of visiting Kakum National Park, one of Ghana’s most treasured natural sites. Walking across the famous canopy walkway, suspended high above the forest floor, was both thrilling and humbling. From that height, you see the rainforest from a whole new perspective the endless green stretching out, the fresh air, and the sounds of nature surrounding you. It’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave. For anyone who hasn’t been, I would highly recommend it. It’s not just an adventure; it’s a chance to connect with nature, appreciate Ghana’s beauty, and create unforgettable memories.
Visiting the Assin Manso Slave River and one of the slave castles was an unforgettable journey. Before coming here, I only knew fragments of the history. But being present walking through those dungeons, standing by the river known locally as Donkor Nsuo (“Slave River”), where many were given their last bath in Africa brought everything into beautiful, painful clarity.
I wasn’t expecting to hear what I heard and see what I saw at Assin Manso and Cape Coast Castle. It was very sad and emotional, but definitely worth the trip. The drive was about two and a half to three hours. Shoutout to my guide, Adjei great guy.
Visiting the slave castle in Ghana is something every African should experience. It’s a journey into a dark but important part of our history, and it’s essential that we learn about the struggles, strength, and resilience of our ancestors. The experience at places like Cape Coast Castle is deeply moving as it’s a reminder of the pain that was endured, but also a testament to the survival and spirit that remains. BUT Ghana isn’t just about the nightlife and parties, though those are definitely part of the vibe! It’s also a place to explore, reflect, and learn. Traveling around this beautiful country opens your eyes to so much more than what you might expect. From the historical sites to the natural beauty, and the rich culture, there’s so much to discover and experience.
A Powerful and Emotional Experience Visiting the slave castle in Ghana was an unforgettable and emotional journey. As an African American, walking through the same halls where our ancestors were held before being shipped across the Atlantic was incredibly moving. The historical significance of this place can't be overstated it’s a painful reminder of the horrors of slavery, but it also serves as a powerful testament to resilience and survival.
Every African visiting Ghana should make it a point to experience this. The opportunity to connect with the rich history of our ancestors is invaluable,Assin Manso Slave River and the Cape Coast Castle. These places are deeply moving, providing an emotional connection to our roots that can’t be found anywhere else. Learning about this history in such an immersive way makes the experience even more meaningful.
AJ was a dope tour guide and he is down to earth. We were able to visit all locations that other tours did not provide in one package due to the distance. The car was very comfortable and spacious. Lunch was included so that is also a plus. He is also a videographer/photographer so he was able to capture high quality footage that we may have missed throughout the day. I would highly recommend this tour whether solo or going with people. You wont regret it.
I learn a lot on this tour. The tour guide was excellent. The transportation was good. I would recommend taking this tour to learn about the times in the past and as a black person, where your roots come from.
