A great experience that we all should take part in no matter the race. Some people shed tears but were taken aback by the stories from the Elmina Castle tour guide.

Itinerary
At 6:00am your tour guide will pick you up from your location in Accra. The road trip takes from 3-4h depending on traffic. Our first stop will be at Kakum National Park, home to forest elephants, bongo antelopes and primates like the Diana monkey. The Canopy Walkway, suspended 30 meters above the ground, provides treetop views of the forest Next stop will be at the Elmina Castle. Here you will witness History, something that humanity should never face again. It is the oldest European building in existence in the south of the Sahara. Lunch at Cape Coast The last stop will be Cape Coast Castle. Cape Coast Castle is one of about forty "slave castles", or large commercial forts, built on the Gold Coast of West Africa by European traders. It was originally built by the Swedes for trade in timber and gold, but later used in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Around 6:00pm will be time to make our way back to Accra, which again will take us 3-4h depending on traffic.

The experience at Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle are visceral, meaningful, and leave deep impressions. It is an important for anyone to take steps in these places and learn their history. The guides at Cape Coast and Elmina varied in quality. The guide at Cape Coast was particularly knowledgeable and forthcoming. Cape Coast was also much less crowded. I recommend visiting both. The trip to Kakum was also enjoyable (if a little short - there are 7 short bridges that you traverse) but the views are plentiful. My complaint is that my expectations for the private tour/private driver differed from what we experienced. I thought we'd have someone that provided history and knowledge of the area as we drove to each location -- I wanted to learn more about Ghana and the sites we took in as we traveled through townships. What you get is a competent driver who will get you to each of the 3 sites but in our case spent time either quiet in the car on the drive or on his phone when we were at each location. He was friendly but not forthcoming with information or additional context.
Great experience. The ride was a little bit but was well worth it. Tour guides and driver was knowledgeable.
Good conversation. Safe ride to and from. Good timing. Rashid was v very accommodating and made sure I was comfortable during my trip
Me and my sister visited Ghana in 2020 and had a day tour to cape coast, Elimina castle and kakum national park via Tichamatours. This was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my life. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Hassan, our tour guide. We felt extremely welcomed and with such a friendly atmosphere we had a fantastic start to end. Hassan provided everything we needed for the trip and ensured our safety. Hassan had such a warm personality and was highly motivated, organised and knowledgeable especially when it came to the country’s rich history and beautiful sceneries. The sceneries were so beautiful so much so that it felt like home. Many thanks again and I recommend Tichamatours to every single person!!
Thanks for giving me and my friends an experience of a lifetime. My friends were intrigue by the following spots Nima Market, Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park, Mole National Park and the hidden beaches we got to experience. I look forward in doing this again with different group of my friends. 🙏🏾
Spent a day with Tichama Tours and I must say it was the best decision made on my trip to Ghana. The team are friendly, welcoming and professional. We educated ourselves soo much on this tour. If anyone is travelling to Ghana and wants to have a wonderful experience, I will highly recommend booking to spend time Tichama Tours as they will patiently guide you in exploring Ghana and making your experience worthwhile! THANK YOU VERY MUCH ONCE AGAIN TICHAMA TOURS, I’ll definitely be in touch again whenever I’m in Ghana.
Such a good learning experience, massively important for us diasporans effected by these very actions to learn the history of them. Ben was a fantastic guide and shared some great information with us on the drive also. The canopy walk was also brilliant, challenging but worth it for the views once you’re up there. The drive from Accra to cape coast is somewhere between 3-4 hours each way. Make of that what you will lol.
This was the most fun I had had in a very Iong time considering how stressful the COVID had been. The team at Tichama tours made my trip easy breezy😃…am definitely doing this again soon
The Cape Coast Castle trip was an amazing experience with Tichama Tours and knowing about our roots and history tells us more about our identity.
Both Ben and Daniel were very courteous and helpful. The trip is very long but they took very good care of us and are knowledgeable! We highly recommend utilizing them for a tour!
This is a full day tour which provides many sites and activities. My tour guide (Benjamin) and driver (Elijah) were both professional, courteous, and patient. Ghanaians are known for their friendliness. The tour itself was a great adventure for me. I learned a lot regarding the treacherous journey for slaves and the history of the slave trade. There was a nice beach-side restaurant where lunch is served. Overall, this was an outstanding experience and is highly recommended.
Hassan and Patrick of Tichama Tours were GREAT hosts. They were so patient with us (a group of 10 women lol). The knowledge that they had about Accra and just about anything else we asked was mind blowing. The cultural exchanges we shared were some of my greatest memories from my trip. I am pleased with each tour that they took us on as everything was tailored to our group in a personal way. I highly recommend using Tichama Tours if you plan on visiting Accra.
This was an enlightening tour. The history lesson was raw and personal. I also enjoyed the national park, the bridges were daring.
I loved being able to move at my own pace as Ben was more than accommodating my every desire (often being my photographer 🙃). I appreciate the hotel pick up and drop off rather than having to meet somewhere. He is well known by all of the historical site personnel and was able to expedite long lines and have tours tailored to my energy. He was more than kind and concerned that I enjoyed every phase of our travel setting the agenda for the day and achieving every stop safely and efficiently. I enjoyed his company as he candidly talked about the history and culture of Ghana. We stopped at the perfect beachfront restaurant. I can’t thank Ben enough for making my Year of Return trip cultural significant.
I took this tour as a solo traveler and highly recommend it. (Better if you have friends to go with, as it is expensive, but even still it was well worth the price.) I booked the tour at about 6pm for the next morning and it all went ahead without issue. Great communication. I really appreciated my driver and guide; i learned so much from them about local culture and history. The slave castles were devastating, but fascinating to visit, Lunch was great and Kakum park was super fun. Highly recommended.
My fiancé, mother-in-law to be and I had a fantastic time on the Tichama tour. The driver Daniel was very professional and careful while making the four hour journey each way. Our tour guide Ben provided great information about the history and culture and took fantastic pictures of us! Ben was also very personable throughout our trip and did every thing to ensure that we were comfortable. I highly recommend this tour for those who are visiting Ghana and looking to see the slave castles and Kakum National forest.
Stopping to tour the cape castle was an experience I will never forget. This castle is over 300 hundreds yrs old but well perserved. The tour guide are very knowledgeable and do again job of providing the historical context of the castle.
Hassan picked me up right at the house where I was staying at the time he told me. He was very friendly and engaging. He picked me up very early for me and he enabled me to sleep as I wanted to and ask questions about things we passed by. He took excellent pictures and videos of me at each location and selected an excellent restaurant for lunch overlooking the ocean. He even took me to do some things that weren't on the schedule that allowed me to experience some of the more traditional aspects of the culture. I helped pull a fishing boat back to shore with local and learned a warrior chant while at it. Although the day was very long I could not have asked for a better guide and driver. I strongly recommend this tour for both families and individuals. Aside from the tour he gave me recommendations for where else to go for souvenirs and sightseeing. He also gave me is phone number if I had any more questions or wanted any other recommendations.
Hassan was an amazing tour guide. He was very patient with myself and my “diva” mother. The overall tour was very enlightening and educational. I would recommend Tichama Tours for anyone visiting Ghana.
In December 2018, for my 35th birthday, I took the trip of a lifetime to Ghana. It had been on my bucket list and I was so excited. Hassan and Tichama Tours did a great job of ensuring our trip to see the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles along with the trip to Kakum National Park did not disappoint. He reached out prior to the trip to confirm our pickup time from the hotel, provided a private car and guided us to our sites for the day. He even joined us on the hike up to the canopy walkway! I would recommend Hassan to anyone who wants to explore Ghana and have a personalized experience while doing so.
