The Aburi botanic garden is a popular destination for flora lovers and bird watchers. Visitors will find various endangered species of plants and can have an enjoyable picnic on any of the 10 beautiful well-manicured lawns. Selfie lovers will definitely fall in love with the picturesque background the garden offers and especially be thrilled by the Ficus Leprieuri (the Strangler ficus tree).
Ever wondered where chocolate comes from? Well, we’ll take you to the very beginning of chocolate – the cocoa tree. At the Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, you learn a bit of the history of Cocoa in Ghana and if you are lucky you might get to taste some cocoa fruit, if they’re in season.
You can buy relics and souvenirs to remind them of their memorable visit. Or pick up an interesting artefact for their homes or as a gift to friends and family.

This was the first excursion we went on while visiting Accra. It was a beautiful way to start the trip and nice quiet reprieve from the busy parts of central Accra. Edna, our main guide, was so kind. She shared a lot of great info about the area as we drove and was a phenomenal photographer, taking great candid shots as we toured the cocoa farm and botanic garden! Both the cocoa farm and gardens were very educational and gave some interesting insights into Ghanaian history that we didn’t learn elsewhere.
This was not as advertised at all. First was pick up. I had to try different methods the night before to establish a pick up time (the company is supposed to contact YOU) and we agreed on 9 am. The next morning, the driver shows up at 8 am. I rush to get ready and get down and he’s not there. Then the car. This advertised an air conditioned car. The car had no AC (crucial issue in Ghana), was very old, and definitely had holes in the floor of the trunk because I could hear everything clearly. With no AC, it means boiling in Accra traffic while inhaling all the exhaust with the windows down. The driver clearly had never done this before because he called someone every five minutes for instructions. He was not a guide. When we got to the cocoa farm, the guide wasn’t there. He then showed up and talked on the phone and with the driver. About 5 minutes in he started the tour. The tour of the farm, advertised as an hour, lasted 15-20 minutes, a full 4 of which (I timed) were spent with my guide on a phone call about another tour. It was so unprofessionally done. Then we drove to the botanical gardens. There, the guide wrangled an employee to give me a tour. It clearly wasn’t arranged in advance. That lasted about 30 minutes, not the advertised 2 hours. I was told by the guide that I should stop taking photos in the tree lined walk because he wanted to finish the tour. Then the “craft market” was one shop the driver took me to at the gardens with almost nothing in it. He pointed at another market on the way home but didn’t offer to stop. By that point I was so hot and disappointed, I didn’t care. This “tour” which cost $180 was 2 hours of driving and 45 minutes of half-assed guiding. An absolute rip off and I have requested a partial refund from Viator.
The air was so cold and refreshing, what a lovely sight to behold, from the ride up the mountain. We took so many pictures of each and every plant and.trees which most where over a 100 years old and all had a unique story, from who bought it in and had planted them. There was this particular tree you could stand in and see right through it, into the sky. Some other had a great covering from the rain and where naughty kids could hide lol. The 1st cocoa farm in Ghana too was a wonderful experience, learning how cocoa is planted, cocoa powder is processed to finally having a taste of the fresh cocoa fruit and the dry one, so yummy, it is believed to be good in reducing high sugar level.
Overall, I was a bit underwhelmed. The company tour guide/driver arrived over an hour late for pick up after I contacted the company multiple times. Unlike the other reviews, my tour guide was not very engaging. (Though the people at cocoa farm and Botanical Gardens were wonderful). In my opinion, the experience is not worth the price of booking.
We thoroughly enjoyed this experience - full of breathtaking views of nature. Frederick was wonderful tour guide that kept it fun. Highly recommend!!
This was a fantastic excursion! Frederick is very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a flight later that day and we’re worried about getting back in time. But the trip gave us plenty of time for packing. They did a great job, and I would highly recommend!
Frederick was a great tour guide. He was able to point out the small details on the tour, as well as being available to answer any questions I had. We covered the cocoa garden, Aburi gardens as well as some craft stores. Would highly recommend this tour to any solo traveler
For my relatively short stay in Accra, Ghana, and this being my first time in Africa, I was looking for the main things to check out in the area. I was told that I had to check out Aburi Gardens, so I searched for tours that included the Gardens. I am extremely glad I came across this one! Frederick was a great, knowledgeable tour guide. He was accommodating and provided a very personal experience what would normally could feel repetitive and robotic. The tour guide for Aburi was not there so he actually did it himself, which was amazing. Knew practically every plant there! He was fun to talk to during the in-betweens of the tour. He's very aware of tourists wanting to take photos so he was both patient and helpful with taking photos himself. Thank you so much for a great tour.
It was a fantastic tour. We got all of these really interesting information about cocoa and about all the trees in the park. Frederick was just lovely, helpful, and knowledgable. It is perfect for a short and relaxing day trip out of Accra. Highly recommend!
Frederick was great, with a wealth of local knowledge and accommodating. Martin, who gave me the tour at the Botanic Gardens was equally knowledgeable and extremely pleasant. I learned a lot. Unfortunately I must have done something to upset Thomas at Tetteh Quarshie and he was a bit grumpy. Overall, it was a very enjoyable few hours to get away from Accra and highly recommended.
The tour was organized by two local young men. They drove me around first to Aburi Gardens then cocoa farms. Each places had their own tour guides. The trip was educational and it was quite an experience tasting kakao beans at Ghana's first cocoa farm. I strongly recommend.
Really good, relaxed tour with Frederick. Picked upon time, comfortable car with good A/C. Informative guide at the cocoa farm and Aburi gardens.
A great day out! The guide was very knowledgable. This is a fantastic escape from the city!! It's an easy drive to both sites, and a cooler climate :)
Frederick was my guide. He was punctual, friendly and already explained the historical backgrounds of Aburi and local traditions while we were driving to Aburi. He gave me a lot of information all throughout the tour and was very patient with my picture-taking and strolling around. Without him, I would have missed all the spice trees in the gardens! It was a real pleasure to tour the cocoa farm and the botanical gardens with him and I highly recommend the tour!
This was a really good tour; very educational! My tour guide Frederick and the driver were great! I would totally recommend this tour and my guide.
It was a great trip. Fredrick was very knowledgeable. I didn’t think the Botanical garden would be interesting but I had an awesome experience. There’s a lot of history and culture in the gardens and the cocoa farms. Plus great scenery in the hills.
Our trip was absolutely amazing. Our tour guides were knowledgeable, professional, and kind. Loved it. By far the best tour thus far. We enjoyed learning the history of the cocoa farm. The information about the plant life at the botanical gardens. We even stopped to try some local food on the way back which was a wonderful experience. We wanted to see the university on the way home and our tour guides made it happen with no hesitation. Thank you to Rex and our driver y’all were absolutely amazing.
My tour with Frederick was fantastic. He is really knowledgeable when it comes to Accra and the attractions we visited and so he had a lot of interesting comments. I really recommend him for anyone travelling in Ghana, and especially for solo travellers. The vehicle was comfortable and everything was better than expected and I felt completely comfortable abs at ease. The attractions themselves were very interesting and I recommend visiting them for anyone visiting Ghana.
The experience was awesome and very informative. Frederick was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable especially since I was traveling alone. I truly enjoyed the tour of the Aburi botanical gardens the quardshie cocoa farm and the accra mall. I would highly recommend this tour. At the cocoa farms I learned about cocoa is processed. And the the botanical gardens my favorite part was learning about the trees that produce the spices we use for cooking.
Eric was a great guide today and really made sure I enjoyed the trip to the cacao plantation and to Aburi gardens. He also stopped at a place to have palm wine as I wanted to. It was delicious. In addition he took me to a crafts village to pick a dress for an engagement party. Although I didn't end up buying anything I appreciated the thought. Good conversation along the way. Highly recommend this tour.
A trip to interesting points, a VERY informative garden tour and a visit to the oldest cocoa plantation in Ghana to learn the amazing process. Eric was great, even going out of his way to make the trip memorable
Highly recommend this tour and tour operator. I booked last minute but was still accommodated. Eric worked around the time I had available. I had an amazing time at the gardens, the cocoa Plantation and suprise stop at an authentic fufu restaurant!! If you book with them the itinerary is just a suggestion the operator is very flexible and more interested in ensuring his guest have an amazing experience in Ghana.
Eric was very pleasant, professional, punctual and accommodating. Eric heard my disappointment in not getting the real feel for Ghana and created a separate additional tailor made itinerary for my husband and I to have gotten the piece of Ghana we were missing.
I very much enjoyed this tour to the botanical gardens. Learning about plants I didn’t even know existed. Amazing to see where the simple things we have come from. The cocoa farm was beyond my imagination. I even got the possibility to taste the real cocoa beans! Frederick, my guide and his collaborators were very professional and dedicated. Even though I was the only person participating the came to pick me up at my hotel and I got to see everything I wanted. I 100% recommended this tour. If you are in the Accra are it is absolutely an experience to live.
This tour has two parts, actually three if you count the pleasant drive up the mountains to Aburi gardens. Wait, make that four because we stopped at a little craft place where I got a carving that was the perfect present.! loved learning new things at the farm and gardens. My guides were polite, full of knowledge and very helpful. I was especially impressed by how much they helped me get around as I have disabilities of movement. I would strongly recommend this relaxing tour.
Tesseh Quarshie was a wonderful quite place in Ghana. So glad I visited. The guide was very excellent in his knowledge. A beautiful place to see
Generally a good tour. Guide was informative, although much of the information was posted on signs. He was clearly proud of the facility and its history. We were birding in between walking tour stops and were intrigued enough with that to return the next morning. Tourist market stop on the return to Accra was unnecessary for us.
Ghana is a beautiful country with friendly people and we got a good glimpse with this tour. It's nice to leave the city behind and enjoy the Ghanaian countryside. We had a very comfortable vehicle with an amazing guide who took us to the botanical garden (my wife loves plants and loved it, but I recommend it to everyone as the gardens are spectacular) and the cocoa farm. We also made a couple of other stops and even tried fufu for lunch. The guide Erick was so accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. I can't recommend this tour enough! THANKS ERICK!
Everything was according to what you could read in the itinerary. Erick and his fellow were in time at the pickup point. The entire tour took almost as long as planned (~4 hour). Their car itself was also a comfortable one even if we did not go so far. If you have already seen Accra you should not miss this trip because the Eastern region is completely different and really worth visiting. The landscape with the mountains, the sight, and the mild climate all give you a relief. Aburi itself is a tidy and well-organized place with much less crowded than any place in Accra. In both sites a local guide accompanied us. I really liked the trip to the Cocoa farm where the local guide showed me how they grow trees and ferment cocoa beans. I definitely recommend this tour if you like nature and keen to learn more about platns and trees and how they produce cocoa / cacao.
The Trip to the Eastern region with Oforidia as the capital was memorable. Our Tour guide Eric was quite knowledgeable but isn't quite the talker. I think it would help to volunteer information that the tour guide feels is relevant even if not prompted. I especially liked the stopover at the peak where we got to see Accra in the distance. Eric bought us the coconut which we didn't require a straw to drink from, and we even had take away coconuts. A big plus for the Tour company is the timely arrival of the tour guide, who was quite friendly. The car provided was also one of the most comfortable we had all through our stay in Ghana. I will definitely recommend the Tour company to visitors seeking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Accra
The guide was competent and knew about the different plants. The tour was therefore interesting. Unfortunately, things are disintegrating and could be better maintained and entertained.
