This was an emotional experience and very heavy feeling. Foster was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable of the tour and excellent driver might I add. He also gave us a different perspective to look at the opportunities that we have living in America. His background and degree in tourism really stood out on how he described some of the sites we visited. I believe everyone should experience this tour especially blacks from the diaspora.

Itinerary
Early morning departure from Accra to the Central Region of Ghana. We will make our first stop at Assin Assin Manso, the burial site of two former slaves from the USA and Jamaica whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day Celebration. A visit to “the Slave River” or “Donkor Nsuo” offers the chance to see the place where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean. It is a place where they had their ''Last Bath''.
Cape Coast Castle served as one of the slave castles built on the shores of Ghana. It also served as the Administration center for British rule in West Africa. Participants will visit the museum and dungeons where slaves were kept while awaiting shipping to the New World
We will make stops at Elmina Castle. You will tour the Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Monument built by the Portuguese in 1482. The castle was the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, making it the oldest European building in existence below the Sahara. Participants will have the unique opportunity to listen to the stories of the infamous slave trade.

I had a wonderful experience on this tour and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Ghana. Our driver planned the departure time very well, which allowed us to avoid the heavy traffic leaving and returning to Accra. That planning made the long road trip much smoother and allowed us to maximize our time at the historical sites. The experience at Assin Manso was incredibly moving. Walking barefoot and standing in the ancestral river where so many enslaved Africans took their final bath before being taken to the coast was powerful and emotional. The guide there was exceptional, knowledgeable, patient, and willing to answer every question thoughtfully. The guides at Elmina and Cape Coast castles were equally excellent. They provided deep historical context and guided us through the sites with care and professionalism. Visiting these places is a profound experience, and the guides helped bring the history to life in a meaningful way. We also stopped at Lemon Lounge for lunch, which was fantastic. Their assorted jollof rice may be some of the best in all of Ghana - an amazing meal during a memorable day. The only suggestion I would offer for improvement relates to the vehicle used for the trip. Our car experienced some maintenance issues along the way, which created a few minor interruptions during the journey. That said, I want to give credit to our driver as he handled the situation calmly and professionally and kept the trip moving smoothly despite the challenges. For future tours, using a newer vehicle or SUV better suited for the long highway drive could make an already excellent tour even better. Overall, this was a powerful, memorable, and meaningful day. The guides were outstanding, the sites are deeply important historically, and the experience is one I will never forget.
Our GHANA experience was AWESOME from beginning to end. Frank Doe Travels attention to detail and the tour guides are very knowledgable. Sending clients your way for the experience we had was simply put AWESOME. Cannot wait to go back in 2027 and plan to book Frank and his staff. Thank you.
Be prepared to learn and to be blown away. Our guide at the river was so captivating & knowledgeable my group hung on to every word. After learning this history from school, church, relatives & documentaries it is nothing compared to standing where it went down. Our guide spoke like a true minister/ professor. I learned so much. I have told all of my loved ones of this experience. One in our group collapsed due to the heat and the employees and our main tour guide took great care & had emergency protocols in place.
Pickup times/locations were confirmed the night before and Jeff and our driver/guide Freedom arrived even a little early so we could promptly get on the road. It was a long ride, about 3 hours, to the slave river. Freedom pointed out places of interest along the way. A stretch of the highway is under construction and unpaved, so we had to take that part slowly and it was very bumpy (a note for those easily car sick). We did stop for a quick breakfast on the way. Once we arrived at the river, a tour was just starting, so we joined it. Our guide there was very knowledgeable and took us through the tour, giving us facts and scenarios along the way so we could put ourselves in our ancestors' positions in our minds. It was a full-circle and reverent experience. Next was another hour and change down the road to Elmina Castle. Another heart-wrenching tour learning about what our ancestors went through before being loaded onto the ships to their new destinations. Once that was done, we ate at the on-site restaurant for lunch. We did quickly stop by the Cape Coast castle area to get a look at the building, but it was getting late, so we got back on the road home. Freedom was a great driver and guide, and answered all of our questions. He also provided some tidbits of knowledge and briefed us at each stop before we exited the vehicle, which was really helpful.
This was an amazing and humbling experience. As a descendent of slaves/member of the diaspora, it was quite a meaningful experience to walk barefoot where my ancestors were forced to walk, stand barefoot in the river where they had their last bath, and stand in the dungeons where they were locked before leaving the continent. Words truly can’t do justice to convey the meaningfulness of this experience. The tour guides at each location were absolutely amazing. They were so knowledgeable and shared the history with passion and compassion and reverence to the souls of our ancestors. I know that I will never have another travel-related experience that will top this experience. This tour is an absolute must for members of the diaspora visiting Ghana.
This tour started super early but it was necessary! Our guide, Frank, was on time and engaging. He made sure we were good and took photos for our group. He also answered questions we had, even those unrelated to the tour! The trip to the Assin Manso Slave River was humbling. To experience it as well as be well educated about what occurred was very well received by myself and my friends. The tour guide for that portion of the trip was so good! Then we visited both the Elmina and Cape Coast dungeons. It was super emotional to learn of the atrocities my ancestors faced. What they endured was horrific and yet they were not broken. I am honored to have these connections to my roots. Please be aware at the time of this review the roads to the coast were basically non-existent so if you have motion sickness, be prepared! Otherwise, we highly recommend this tour!!!

"I have very mixed feelings about this tour. On one hand, the historical significance of the Slave River and Cape Coast Castle was profoundly moving, and the local guides at these sites were excellent. However, the experience was significantly marred by several issues. Two months prior, I booked a private tour for myself and a companion to celebrate my birthday. The day before, Frank contacted me asking if we’d be willing to share our tour and van with three additional American tourists due to "vehicle trouble." While I initially expressed my preference for the private tour I booked, I was assured it would be "taken care of." Unfortunately, the reality was far from what I expected. Instead of Frank, we were picked up by another driver who, regrettably, drove in a manner that was both reckless and alarming. The five-hour journey was filled with high-speed driving, aggressive lane changes, and squeezing between large trucks, making it an incredibly stressful and uncomfortable experience. I felt unwell halfway through. The driver also seemed rushed and pushy, which further detracted from the experience. The driver also was held up at a police checkpoint for 30-minutes because he didn’t have a license on him, and started driving even crazier to make up the time. Upon arrival, we discovered that Frank was indeed driving the other three tourists, who were still included in our tour group, contrary to my understanding of a private booking. This was particularly disappointing as I had booked a private tour well in advance. The tour castle itself felt rushed, further adding to our dissatisfaction. While the historical sites and their local guides were commendable, the overall experience was significantly impacted by the unsafe driving, the lack of a private tour as booked, and the feeling of being rushed. I booked a private experience for my birthday, and that is not what I received. While I understand vehicle issues may arise, the solution felt poorly executed and ultimately diminished the quality of the tour. I hope future bookings are handled with more clarity and consideration for the customer's initial reservation.
An eye opening, necessary, and heartbreaking experience. All guides were incredibly knowledgeable and respectful to the enslaved people. Foster made the experience easeful and also shared so many other details. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn about the horrors of slavery and honor the ancestors who suffered and survived.
My Tour guide was excellent, courteous and knowledgeable. Well mannered would be an understatement. People like him, make you want to comeback to Ghana sooner than you thought.
This tour was awesome. Frank Doe/Bright and I can't remember the lady's name but they hosted us for this tour& they were amazing. The tour is a most when u come to Ghana. The tour was very touching, sad and educational to learn hands on what our ancestors went through. Please do yourself a favor and BOOK! Frank Doe is awesome so I highly suggest requesting or booking him.
The visit to the Assin Manso River was an incredible experience! Brother Kofi’s guidance and knowledge were wonderful and helped to make this very meaningful. The castles were also powerful to visit. Lunch at the El Mina Castle restaurant: Anomansa was absolutely delicious! Jesse, our server, was also great. David, our driver and main tour guide for the overall experience was 10/10! He provided lots of information throughout the whole day; had great conversation and also provided space for us to reflect and relax. This was a day we will never forget. Thank you!
Our tour guide Frank was excellent very professional, patient, knowledgeable and was on time also was able to maneuver through traffic safely. I would definitely recommend this tour it’s definitely a must see for anyone wanting to learn more about the history of Ghana to wash my feet and hands in the same water as our ancestors was AMAZING!

The car picked us up from the hotel promptly at 5:30am. We thought it was going to take us to a central meeting point to meet up for a bus transfer, but turns out this tour was literally just us, which was a pleasant surprise. We first drove to Assin Manso, which took about 4 hours. At Assin Manso, we were the only couple there, so the experience was totally private. The guide, Kofi, was excellent and the experience was very personal, powerful, and framed the rest of the trips to the castles. The drive to the castles took about another 1.5 hours. We ordered lunch from the restaurant menu first, then went to Cape Coast Castle, which was another powerful experience. We then ate lunch, and drove about 15 minutes to Elmina Castle. While bigger, Cape Coast had a bigger impact for us, and I'm glad we did the sequence the way we did. The sights, the smell, the feel of the heat and difficult ventilation in the dungeons made the experience all the more impactful when you consider what it must have been like. Lunch at the restaurant was tasty. The drive back to the hotel took over 4 hours and we didn't return until after 7:30pm. Overall, we were so happy we chose the tour that included Assin Manso instead of the national park. This was the best part of the tour and shaped the whole experience. It was a pleasant surprise that it was truly a private tour, but our guides in the car did not tell us that much about the sites. They didn't want to take away from the guides at the individual sites, but they answered a lot of questions we had about life in Ghana and thoughts about different things. What could have been improved - the car was not that big and having to sit in the back seat for almost 10 hours became very painful on my knees. A SUV would have been better. Also, the roads are terrible and if my wife hadn't taken Dramamine, her car sickness would have been really bad. Having to leave so early meant we missed breakfast and we didn't know if we would stop anywhere to eat. It would be good to bring food or snacks. Also, we thought more cold water would have been available, but you have to pick it up off of hawkers on the road as you go. Overall, we would recommend this tour, but be prepared to spend 10 hours of a 14 hour tour in the car.
Frank turned up early . He was very processional for the whole day . He was quite knowledgeable on current affairs . We enjoyed each part of the journey even though it was a little harrowing listening to the guides , who were very knowledgeable. The Resturant for our lunch was very nice . The food was very enjoyable . We thought the price was very reasonable for this trip . Money well spent .
My group had the most amazing tour guide. Frank was very knowledgeable and really knows his country! This trip will be forever in my memory book due to the tour guide.
My friend and I decided to book a trip to Ghana as a present for ourselves upon graduating from University. We would have been hopelessly lost if it were not for Frank. He was our tour guide around Accra, and he helped us organize our entire trip and get to our destinations! We would have been completely lost if it weren't for Frank and his help.
My husband and i had an amazing trip to Cape Coast and Kakum Park and Elmina Castle. Our guide Solomon is a walking Encyclopaedia. Kakum was a little bit stressful for us but Solomon had patience with us and made sure we moved at our own pace. The tour at Elmina and Cape Coast Castles was an emotional one. We really learnt a lot on this tour. We want to thank this company and our guide Solomon for such a memorable experience. We will use this company again on our next visit to Ghana.
It was a beautiful experience for my husband and I. Tour guide was experienced and great and he really knows his way through town, knows all the right places to visit and very experienced with the history of the country. Best tour ever!
We did this tour with Frank after doing the Accra city tour. This one was just as wonderful! He has a good understanding of the historical importance of the castles and makes the experience educational. It was especially nice to have the same guide with for so much of the trip because we built a great rapport with him. He helps with bargaining and showing the best places to eat, even restaurants that accommodate vegetarian and vegan diets! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FRANK! He was even flexible with showing us places that we were interested in that may not be on a standard tour. This day trip is PACKED and a bit long, but worth it. You can sleep on the ride back to Accra!
