The experience was spiritual, meditative, and educational. What learned from Kwame countered many of my misperceptions about what I was told about slavery I experienced so many emotions and was glad I came home to stand with on the land where my ancestors stood. My tour guide Clinton was very professional, accommodating, and kind.

Itinerary
Assin Manso Ancestral Slave River Park was one of the largest slave markets for gathering people to sell into slavery during the infamous trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is especially worth seeing as a prelude to viewing Cape Coast slave castle since you will be following the route taken by the ancestors of many African Americans...Assin Manso served as the place where slaves had their last bath on their journey. It also has the site where the returned remains of 2 diasporas (Lady Crystal from Jamaica and Carson from New York) were re-buried.
The former slave castle at Cape Coast built in 1555 is a UNESCO World Heritage site commemorating a sad history inflicted on Africa...you will be exposed to the activities of the slave trade era and the effects it had on our culture, nations, and humanity as a whole. Those of the African Diaspora may request a 'Door of Return' ceremony (extra fee).
Visit Kakum National Park to enjoy West Africa's longest rainforest canopy walkway. The prominent landscape of the park is tropical forest accounting for 90% of the park landscape. It is one of three places in Africa that features a canopy walk through the trees. It covers a distance of 1,150 feet (350 m) while connecting through seven different trees.

This was a wonderful tour with Hamza and Hamdu! It felt like going on a road trip with my brothers. I went solo and i felt so safe. The Assin Manso River was a powerful and spiritual moment for me, I also got to see cape coast and Elmina castle. I highly recommend this tour!
The experience was incredible, with knowledgeable guides who were clearly able to share that knowledge. The Assin Manso location, the Elmira Castle and Cape Coast Castle were windows into a past that showed how hateful and destructive people can be. It was worth the cost and if given the opportunity to tell my friends to do it I would. Thank you Hamza and Hamdu for putting up with my giggly sister and I. We did start to feel a little punchy at the end but it was due to the exhaustion of the day. If you need tour guides for a meaningful experience I would suggest Kwame tours.
This tour is an absolute must for anyone visiting Ghana. The Slave River experience was especially powerful—educational, emotional, and spiritual. It offered a rare connection to history that was both humbling and unforgettable. Clinton, our designated guide for all tours, was exceptional. Professional, knowledgeable, and attentive, he ensured every moment was meaningful. The local guides at each site added depth with insights we could never access back home. Their storytelling brought the past to life in a way that honored its gravity and legacy.
Our family visit to the Elmina Castle and the Slave River and Elmina Castle with Kwame Tours was a truly emotional and soul-stirring experience. We walked in the footsteps of our ancestors down a path and stood in the Slave River-the very river in which our ancestors took their last bath before being forcefully taken away from their families and homeland. We honored our ancestors by taking our steps barefoot. Clinton was our guide. He is, without a doubt, one of the absolute best guides that I have ever had in my travels. Clinton was truly amazing, passionate, engaging, and made sure that we learned the true history. This helped us to be connected to and be present with The Motherland, The Continent, the spirits of Our Ancestors. Having a guide like Clinton ensures that you will have an amazing experience. I would use Kwame Tours again and recommend that any traveling to Ghana book with them as well.
Our visit to the Slave River and Elmina Castle with Kwame Tours was truly unforgettable. The experience was both powerful and deeply emotional. Walking in the footsteps of our ancestors and standing in the Slave River-the same river where they took their last bath before being taken away- was a moving and spiritual moment. Our guide, Clinton was absolutely amazing- knowledgeable, compassionate and deeply respectful in sharing the history. We learned so much about strength, resilience and spirit of our ancestors. The tour is not just about history; it’s about connection, reflection and honoring those who came before us. I highly recommend Kwame Tours for anyone visiting Ghana who wants an authentic, educational and meaningful experience.
I had such a wonderful experience on this tour and truly enjoyed my time. From start to finish, everything went smoothly, and I felt very comfortable and cared for throughout the journey. He was so patient, intentional, and relatable, which made the entire experience even more meaningful.
My family and I had a wonderful experience. Daniel and Kwame are very knowledgeable. They consider the needs of the individual customer and work to accommodate them. I would certainly recommend them for excursions
The views were amazing, we took so many pictures. The tour guide Daniel and the driver were very professional. The vehicle was very well maintained and comfortable. The tour guides were very helpful and knowledgeable.
Really great tour! I went alone and the guys (Daniel and Daniel) were very professional and respectful. They arrived on time to collect me from my hotel which is always a good sign! The arrangements they made with all the guides at the three locations was excellent and everything ran smoothly. It is a very long journey to the Cape Coast from Accra and many of the roads are quite bad (exacerbated by the fact that road repairs were taking place for a very long section of the journey after you left Accra and through the Central Region) so the ride in the car was very bumpy! However, throughout the journey to and back to my hotel I felt in safe hands! I would highly recommend this tour to everyone who wants to know more about the slavery and colonial history of Ghana with a well-organised and professional company. Thank you Daniel and Daniel and if I visit Ghana again I will definitely book with this tour company!
A must-do! The day tour of Assin Manso, the Slave River, and Cape Coast was a profound journey. The great storytelling brought the historical sites to life, and I felt a deeper connection with the history of Ghana. The tour was well-paced, and I appreciated how the agency handled everything smoothly. Will definitely book again!
An enlightening experience! The Assin Manso Slave River tour was incredibly moving and educational. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate, sharing captivating stories that brought history to life. The visit to Elmina Castle was a poignant reminder of our past. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to deepen their understanding of Ghana's history!"
Exploring the dungeons was heartbreaking, but it's history lesson that was worthwhile in the end. I would do this journey again
The experience is. It easy to describe as it involves heartfelt emotions. The tour guide Daniel was always trying to be helpful. It’s a long drive yet it with every second of the “journey”. Daniel also helped out with assisting the shopping from local cultural stores and people. Highly recommend tour/lifetime experience.
This experience was one of the best experiences of our lives. We learned so much, and the experience would not have been as meaningful with out our tour guide, Daniel. All of the staff was amazing, and really seemed to care about accommodating us and giving the most amazing experience. Daniel went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, had everything we needed and enjoyed ourselves. Ask for Daniel!!!
James was an excellent tour guide who was very knowledgeable about the slave castles that we visited, and he was most knowledgeable about the significance of the Assin Manso Slave River. The experiences were powerful.
It was humbling powerful. This experience allowed me to feel a meaningful connection to the past. It is an experience that I will never forget.
Daniel and Amoah were amazing guides & good company!! The car ride was comfortable and they were accommodating. Highly recommend Kwame Tours!
Our main guide, Mike, was terrific and we especially appreciated experiencing the Assin Manso Slave River. Very sobering but well worth the visit.
