We had a group of 5 and relatively little time to cover a lot of ground due to flight schedules, so the day was customized to our needs. Amazing destinations—a privilege to bear witness to this tragic aspect of our shared history. Beautiful but somber locations. Foster was a pleasant and knowledgeable person with whom to spend our day. We had to skip the canopy walk due to time limitations but were able to spend time at both castles. Lots of time on the road. Would have been nice to have a sense of the itinerary ahead of time, including how lunch would be handled. Also would have been nice if some bottled water and basic snacks were provided given the very early hour we were picked up, as it was hard for us to secure breakfasts. Really appreciated the flexibility with our schedule and the tour operator reaching out ahead of time to coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs from/to different locations for our group. All in all an amazing day that we all came away quite affected by.

This tour is a MUST no matter age, race or background. The level of service with Frank Doe Travel was OUTSTANDING from pickup to drop off. Frank and his staff are very professional and are very knowledgable. To visit Cape Coast is such an educational experience. Looking to visit again in the future with Frank Doe Travels of course.
Frank, my guide was great. The canopy walk is exhilarating, and the castles powerful and necessary for anyone coming to Ghana for the first time.
Very transformative experience . Makafui was kind and informative . She started not to feel well during our trip and still gave us her best
If you're looking to experience the deep-rooted history of Ghana in a single, transformative day, the Accra to Cape Coast and Elmina Day Tour with Frank Doe Travels is an unmissable journey. From start to finish, this tour delivers a powerful, immersive, and sobering education in Ghanaian history and the transatlantic slave trade, all facilitated by the knowledgeable and compassionate Makafui at Frank Doe Travels.
Amazing tour and guide! Frank was truly exceptional! His attention to detail was amazing and answering all my questions in the way! Gave us details of the country outside of the 3 locations. He truly has a passion for tourism!
As an individual interested in history and evolution of humanity it was a great experience but a sad day indeed. Very moving being inside those dungeons and learning what life was like for the victims of this horrendous crime.
We spent 5 days with Frank. He is a seasoned tour guide with flexibility. We did Elmira Castle, the coast, the national park, and more. He is very knowledgeable on all aspects of Ghana. The whole experience was excellent.
We were taken to the Karkum National Park Canopy Walk, a private tour of Elmina Castle and had lunch and some chill time at Coconut Grove Beach Resort. Nii Laaye hosted us throughout, Nii was uplifting and very informative throughout. We had a guide at the Canopy Walk and Elmina Castle, they added a lot of extra knowledge. Fred at Elmina was exceptional, one of the most knowledgeable and informative guides I’ve had anywhere where in the world. Fred is a brilliant communicator and helped us understand Elmina in manner entirely appropriate to the site and its grave history. The mix of the beautiful but challenging Canopy Walk with the compelling, brutal and barbaric history of Elmina Castle. Followed by good food and time to decompress at the beach, along with Nii’s uplifting approach, made for a great tour. One of the bests of done anywhere. Word of warning, the minibus driver is fast and very Ghanaian in style. It feels a bit scary to those not used to it.
This is a MUST tour to understand Africa and African American history. Not only do you see the sights, but a personal tour guide. Frank Doe my tour guide was excellent. He gave really good history lessons, friendly and knowledgeable.
I do not have enough positive words about my experience with our guide Nii. I will start by saying communication was top notch. I received a phone call, email, and text confirmation for our trip. Pick up was stress free and early. The van was comfortable and had great air conditioning. Nii was knowledgeable and friendly and curated a beautiful day for us to learn all about our locations. Book this company for your day adventures you will be well taken care off and you will learn about this beautiful country, its history and the deep scare of the transatlantic slave trade.
It was sobering to hear how Africans (my ancestors) were treated during the slave trade. Those same atrocities made their way to the American shores. Understanding one’s history is crucial. It was a great learning opportunity. FRANK DOE was the perfect guide. I plan to use him in the future on a return trip. He knows the region very well. He is an excellent driver. He ensured that safety was his top priority. Highly recommend this tour with Frank.
This tour was filled with a roller coaster of emotions. The joys of the canopy walk at Kakum National Park to the sorrow of seeing first hand the treacherous conditions that our ancestors faced at Cape Coast and Elmina castle. Our guide Makafui, had a relaxed and incredibly knowledgeable presence. She didn’t simply quote content from a script but instead gave us an insight to the history and political culture of Ghana. This definitely was worth every penny and we would highly recommend this day trip!.
It was a most delightful trip as we had a wonderful guide in Makafui and a very good driver in Ofuri (I hope I got the name right!!). Two guests from the UK joined the trip and made it more lively. Makafui is very knowledgeable and gave us an insightful commentary the whole way. She also made sure that we were well cared for. I loved the forest canopy walk and the age-old trees. The visit to Cape Coast and Elmina castles were very informative. The guide who showed us through the castle was clear and passionate about the fact that now we can go through the "door of no return" and come back through the "door of return" - symbolising our freedom. She also emphasised our individual responsibility to stand up against injustice. A trip to Ghana cannot be complete without a visit to these two castles and getting to grips with its history. I recommend this tour with Frank Foe wholeheartedly.
Frank provided an excellent experience for our small group .. We really enjoyed it & highly recommend him and his tours .
My family and I had an amazing day with Frank. The tour was carefully and thoughtfully curated starting at Kakum and ending at Cape Coast castle. Lunch was provided and frank handled everything. Frank is patient, kind, and very helpful. My family was truly grateful to have booked with him and has booked him again for an Accra city tour. He definitely made our first adventure in Accra a great experience. The guides at each location were passionate and knowledgeable. Clean and updated 12 passenger van, he showed up on time and waited patiently (my family were a few minutes late, and he was very helpful. Thank you so much Frank for a wonderful day.
The company transpiration was poor and created a bad experience. The first vehicle broke down and we had to be picked up by someone else to go part of the distance. The third car got us into an automobile accident. Thankfully no one was injured. We then had to be taken by taxi service to our destination. Finally a 4th car picked us up to take us to the remaining parts of the tour. The company needs to improve their transportation service of cars. Other than that the actual tour guide was nice and well informed but the main parts of the tour are conducted but guides who work for the individual stops on the tour.
Great and informative tour. Early and private pickup from with guide and operator. Good drive and good food for lunch at Elmina castle
Frank Doe Travels helped arrange our family trip to Ghana (Accra, Akosombo, and Nzema). Led by Frank, not only was the customized itinerary created with thoughtful consideration of our varying interests, he also added some amazing surprises along the way. If you want to experience an authentic adventure and immersive cultural experience, Frank Doe Travels is your best bet.
I would like to thank Foster for the amazing day. It was amazing how knowledgeable he was and how well he knew everyone wherever we went. In addition to picking me up from my apartment, they dropped me off as well. At any of the destinations, I did not have to wait long for a tour. All expenses were included in this tour, so I didn't have to worry about spending money. The places in Ghana were stunning and I enjoyed learning about them so much! There was a lot of traffic to and from Accra but that was out of their control. I had a very comfortable, air-conditioned transport and a safe driver. Don't be afraid to go solo like I did. It would be great to go in a group but do not be hesitant to do it on your own. There is no doubt that I would recommend others to use their services.
Mr. Frank exceeded our expectations for this tour. He is very knowledgeable, kind, and had us in great hands the entire day. His vehicle is comfortable and the a/c is nice and cold. I couldn’t ask for a nicer tour. Being an American, he pointed out parts of my ancestors’ history as well. He is relatable, prompt and serious about his business! He even made an adjustment in order to accommodate me! He was so great that we booked the Accra City Tour the next day with him as well.
This was a great mix of canopy walks and an emotionally impactful and insightful visit to Elmina Castle and Slave Dungeons and Cape Coast Castle and Dungeons. My guide Jefferson was knowledgeable and paid attention to details in addition to being a very safe driver. He was flexible and customized the tour based on my interests. Highly recommend
Hands down, Frank is the best! He was very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend him to everybody. Medaase😊
The rainforest was amazing and adventurous. While extremely moving the castle tours were very informative and the tour guides did a great job narrating the story. The driver was nice and also accommodating.
The guides showed up right on time at the pickup location. They were very friendly. The tour itself was great! The ride was long but the guides kept us entertained.
We used Frank Doe Travels to make all of our arrangements while in Ghana. Frank took care of everything from transportation, tours, hotels, and entertainment. We had a variety of experiences as a group of 6. We felt safe and learned lots of historical facts about Ghanaian history and culture. One of my favorite excursions was the Volta Region, where Frank was born. The plush and verdant scenery was quite different from the busy cities of Accra and Kumasi. Other unique experiences included the sampling of authentic Ghanaian cuisine, shopping for the 2ide variety of fabrics available, and learning to cook Ghanaian food and creating one-of-a-kind batik fabrics. Frank made all of the arrangements, and we felt safe and cared for the entire 2 weeks of our travel. I strongly recommend that you leave your travel plans to Ghana to Frank Doe Travels. You will not be disappointed.
An amazing experience. Very informative and educational. Our communication with the tour representatives was seamless and responsive. We had a knowledgeable tour guide, Makafui who helped connect us with natives, provided insights of tour sights. We highly recommend this tour company to all who want to immerse themselves in the rich culture of Ghana and have a fun and amazing experience.
I had THE BEST time exploring Cape Coast with Jeff. So knowledgeable, friendly and insightful. Elmina Castle is an experience I will never forget and Kwame was the most INFORMATIVE tour guide I could have asked for. All in all, I had a great time and my favourite day in Ghana! Thank you!
This has been the best vacation ever. Frank and Makafui was so awesome for the 2 weeks that we where here, we went to Cape Coast dungeon, Rain Forrest, naming ceremony . Frank and Makafui were great with all accommodations that we needed. I personally recommend anyone who is visiting Ghana to have Frank Doe Tour Company be your guide--they was fantastic!!
A full day - from the rainforest to Elmina and Cape Coast. I laughed, challenged myself on the suspension bridges and became overwhelmed with emotion at the slave dungeons. Our guide, Makafui was outstanding! She was knowledgeable and very friendly! I highly recommend this tour
The tour included more than I expected. We went to the Kakum National Park, Elmina Slave Castle (Dungeon) and Cape Coast Castle (Dungeon). The sights, sounds and actual tours were GREAT! I learned and experienced so much. My tour guide Makafui and her driver was amazing. I felt sick before the tour even started and she made sure I was ok by checking on me constantly and giving me tons of water and slowing the tour down when I was struggling. If it wasn’t for her, I might have ended the tour early…but she kept me going and I am forever grateful for that!
I cannot recommend Frank Doe Travels enough! Great communication in the lead up, tons of interesting knowledge and chat, and it was evident they have a very good relationship with the locations visited (staff, guides etc). I was so lucky as to get some private tour opportunities as a result, and they pulled out all the stops to ensure I had the full experience despite some pretty serious monsoon rains. I learned a lot, and overall felt I was in great hands. I will certainly recommend any friends to use the company, and hope to take their other tours next time I'm in Ghana. Five stars for sure, highly recommend!
We learn a lot about the Elmina and Cape Coast Castles. The Frank Doe Travels is a Top Notch organization and they put together a great tour. I will book with Frank Doe Travels again. I have already recommended Frank Doe Travel to friends that plan to travel to Ghana in the near future.
I really enjoyed my time and had an excellent host. The host made the trip very entertaining and I would suggest anyone to who takes the Cape Coast trip or any trip they want to take to use Frank Doe Travels as your Tour guide.
A wonderful trip! Our guide Foster was so considerate and the day was beautifully thought out and put together. The canopy walk was amazing. Loved every minute.. and the history learnt at the two castles were spellbinding and humbling. Would thoroughly recommend this trip
If you looking for a amazing day in Ghana, THIS is it. Makafui our tour guide was Wonderful. Her and Jefferson our driver were very knowledgeable and treated us like family. Kakum national park was a great experience and Elmina castle was definitely enlightening and emotional. A experience we will never forget A+ all the way
Wonderful tour with an excellent guide. Maka Frida was knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend!
Wonderful tour! Very professional driver and friendly guide. We learned a lot on the region and history, 100% recommend!
Makafui was our tour guide. She made our experience very enjoyable and she is very knowledgeable about this tour. You won't be disappointed with her as your guide
This was one of my trips to date. I had an amazing time at Kakum National Park, Elmina and Cape Coast slave dungeons. Our tour guides really gave us a great experience to last a lifetime of memories. I would definitely recommend this adventure to all my fellow kings 🤴🏾& queens 👸🏽 Makafui and Nii laaye 🙌🏾✊🏾
An amazing tour, with the best tour guide I’ve come across in Accra. Thank you so much to Makafui and Jefferson
If you are reading this, you are probably looking for a "cool day tour" at an affordable price. Look no further. You've come to the right place. To begin with, Frank Doe Travels arrived on time, 5am sharp! They were very friendly. The transportation was air-conditioned and comfy. My children really enjoyed the "Kakum National Park." Being in the midst of trees and greenery that seemed to stretch to the heavens was awesome! The trip to Cape Coast and Elmina was simply beyond words. Walking through the chambers of the slave castles, hearing our ancestors voices in the sounds of the ocean waves, and walking through "The Door of No Return" were spiritual - emotional experiences that will forever impact our family. As challenging as it was for us at times, we found a victorious resilience in the fact that WE MADE IT BACK to commemorate our ancestors. And we have Frank Doe Travels to Thank for that. God Bless.
I have to say this was the best tour I ever been on. Frank has exceeded all expectations and beyond. From accommodating and being very knowledgeable about everything, I recommend 10/10. I had booked a last minute tour to Cape Coast, Elmina Castle, and Kukum. I wanted my mother to have the best experience, since she hardly do adventures. Frank said don’t worry and assured me that he will do his best to make it the best! Yes indeed he did. We had such a great time, learning about the cultures and histories of every spot we stopped at. Also a great plus , he did a wonderful job as a photographer .He never hesitated to go out of the way as well. The food was also yummy! Nice view of the beach while have great food and drinks. The ride there was also bliss and wonderful, blasting AC, and smooth roads, you couldn’t even tell the journey was 3 hours plus. We just felt so comfortable and relaxed. If you ever in the greater Accra area and want to go on a day trip! Run and book Frank Doe Travels :)
Frank was very efficient in getting us to the sites without having to wait for crowds. Very friendly, accommodating, and informative. The tours were an amazing experience. Learning about the sad history of the sites really lends perspective... Would recommend for all people
Communication prior to the trip was very good, very professional - the team did well on that. Cannot fault the guides at Kakum National Park and Cape Coast Castle - they were very good indeed. Especially at Cape Coast Castle, the guides have obviously been trained very well and the tour is a complete visceral experience which is life changing in some ways. Negatives for us is that we missed out by not having Frank as our guide, we missed out on the knowledge and special touch which is why I booked with this company in the first place. We were uncomfortable with our driver who drove faster than any other driver on the route from Accra to Cape Coast and back again. My partner and I were most uncomfortable.
This tour with Frank was SPECIAL! He was responsive leading up to the tour and was kind and extremely knowledgeable concerning culture, society, religion, politics, and pop culture amongst other things during the trip. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this trip to anyone looking to visit Almina Castle, Cape Coast Castle, and the Kakum National Park.
We made our booking at short notice and appreciate their quick response and confirmation. We enjoyed our tour! Frank and his team are friendly and professional. We had had our own private vehicle which was nice. What I appreciated the most is that Frank took really nice photos and videos of us which allowed to be in the moment and enjoy the tour.
Best tour ever! Frank was very hospitable and personable. The driver was also very nice and we felt very comfortable with them. The spacious van was comfortable and had A/C. Frank explained various things along the journey to our destinations like the various landmarks, fruit trees, and cities. When we made it to the multiple destinations he took pictures to capture our experiences and sent it to us easily. Lunch was amazing! Ocean front resort/restaurant had wonderful views. Not to mention we tore up the food lol, delicious! Overall wonderful experience I would recommend for everyone (breath taking canopy walk figuratively and literally, educational and evocative castle tours). We traveled with my two kiddos (7 & 11 and they found this tour to be unforgettable), my husband and adult cousin. Highly recommend!
We were taken care of by Jeff and it was a lovely journey. We left early but it was strategic to beat the crowds and it was great choice to do the private tour. We were able to curate as we went, and Jeff made good use of our time. I highly recommend this tour and this company.
Amazing experience in Kakum first, hiking through the bridges and after in both castles, the guider Nii, top guy, very recommended to know much more about the nature and the history of West Africa and their hard backgrounds. My wife and I were with our 2 children and we enjoyed a lot
